Is the tattoo really that bad?

Got my first tattoo a few months back and was really pleased with it. Just posted it on reddit (first mistake I know) and everyone's saying it's awful

Is the tattoo really that bad?

The skull looks good but the snake looks a bit fuzzy, not sure of the right word

Seraphinesupport · 30/06/2022 13:48

personally i think it looks like an old tattoo done maybe 10 years ago, its not vibrant and i dislike the design but if thats what you wanted then nothing wrong with wanting something different to other people.

Seraphinesupport · 30/06/2022 13:49

also its a snake but i thought it was a dinosaur at first

greywinds · 30/06/2022 13:49

I quite like it - if you like it, that's all that matters. Try not to worry, asking for opinions is always risky.

Seraphinesupport · 30/06/2022 13:49

also why is there what looks like water. Its all bit random should have been a snake coming from the skull or something

Whatsonmymindgrapes · 30/06/2022 13:49

Awful

RippleQueen · 30/06/2022 13:53

Why do it to yourself? You will probably have to live with it for the rest of your life when fashions and tastes will change. You must have seen blurry very blue/black tattoos on old men. Why do people do this to themselves?

Minimalme · 30/06/2022 13:55

If you liked it when it was done, you should try to hold onto that feeling op.

Presumably you thought for a long time about what you wanted and chose a design that you liked and meant something.

Just focus on that.

Misstes · 30/06/2022 13:56

I know they asked but seriously remember this is tattooed on their body. It’s not something they can just alter. I hate to think how bad they might be feeling right now.

Hallowbat · 30/06/2022 13:56

Not the best artwork but it’s your tattoo so as long as you like it that’s all that matters!

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 30/06/2022 14:01

If you love it then that is all that matters.

Until I zoomed in, I wondered why you had a tattoo of Barney. Sorry.

I love looking at tattoo pics. My colleague has just had his arm tattoo. It is amazing. He has booked for his sleeve to be completed. He has to wait over a year for his artist. He is content to wait

JLwac · 30/06/2022 14:02

Is it a snake or a dinosaur above the skull OP?

April90 · 30/06/2022 14:03

Who cares what anyone else thinks OP. Do you like it??

Aguanatural · 30/06/2022 14:06

The only thing that matters is whether you like it or not, BUT if you want opinion then I second other PPs, it isn’t done very well. I’d find a better artist who you can work with to improve it and develop your sleeve further.

@RippleQueen why come on to a board specifically about tattoos to complain about tattoos? Commenting isn’t obligatory and its clearly a concept you’re struggling with but other people have different preferences to you.

@Unsuretattoo i think the design is quite clear in terms of it being a snake (obvious snake anatomy) but I think the purple colour association with dinosaur characters may be throwing some folks off.
The design is not to my taste but totally fine, however I think you need to speak to a proper sleeve artist to get a design mapped out so it’s not a patchwork of individual tattoos stuck together on your arm.
the shading and line work could be enhanced, but if you’re happy with it that’s all that matters. Tattoos will always be marmite.

mirrorballer · 30/06/2022 14:07

I really dislike it, it's not my style at all. Does it matter though if you like it?

gwenneh · 30/06/2022 14:10

I think the purple colour association with dinosaur characters may be throwing some folks off.

For me it isn't the Friendly Purple Dinosaur colour, it's the placement of the eye and the ridges on the skull being in all the wrong places that says t-rex rather than snake.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 30/06/2022 14:10

How do you envisage the rest of your arm OP? Did you get any ideas off the other board?

Hallyup89 · 30/06/2022 14:12

I don't like tattoos tbh but I can see the talent that goes into many of them. If they were on a piece of paper instead, I'd probably buy some!

Yours isn't great, I'm sorry to say. It looks like the sort of work a young teenager might produce in an art lesson at school. It's not awful, but there's a lot of room for improvement.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 30/06/2022 14:13

When threads come up in Trending, it doesn’t show you what forum said thread is in.

skinhappy · 30/06/2022 14:16

I agree with others, its if you like it that matters. Tattoos are pretty divisive and personal, even by fashion standards. So if you were happy with it before posting on Reddit, or here, and presumably you were as you were looking to extend, then hold onto that and care not what randoms on social media think.

Personally, I really like the colours on your tattoo!

ChangedMyNamrButStillMe · 30/06/2022 14:16

The skull isn’t too bad but the waves (?) and snake are pretty bad. They remind me a bit of drawings by naturally good artists when they are still teenagers practicing their skills.

I’m also not sure how they’re supposed to be linked - it looks like just three, random drawings all piled on top of each other with a strange black framing that doesn’t appear to be shadows. Tattoos that make up larger pictures are supposed to sort of flow into each other. I can’t imagine any tattoo artist managing to smoothly transition what you currently have into an expansion.

SuziSecondLaw · 30/06/2022 14:18

It's awful, I'm sorry.

Who designed it? I mean, if the tattooist was given a design to do and they did exactly that, it's not their fault.

The colours are brash and tacky. The shading is terrible. And the actual design is ugly.. A snake, some waves and a skull? Why?

I mean, asking people their opinion is daft, if you like it, you like it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Squills · 30/06/2022 14:19

Sadly I think that it looks cheap and very badly drawn. I’d go somewhere which has a higher calibre of artists and see if they can advise what can be achieved.

georgarina · 30/06/2022 14:19
