Following on from here

Surely the sun will be out by the end of this thread?

OP posts:
Romanarama · 11/03/2010 19:33

I don't much like the propaganda jacket after all now it's here (and after spending about 30 mins looking for the bl**dy DHL depot to collect it). I think I'd need a stylist following me around all day to rearrange the collar or it will just annoy me. So back to square one.

OllieWollieWoo · 11/03/2010 19:39

I know I always seem to be linking to the dreaded DM (sorry!) - but I quite like the navy and white stripey dress featured here - (or have I just gone off the fashion rador into Jane Norman territory???)

traceybath · 11/03/2010 19:45

Thats lovely Ollie its Alice by Temperley and Hells has it.

Roman - when are your interviews again? I do find all that VW stuff just a bit too fussy. What about that theory belted dress someone linked to . . .

OllieWollieWoo · 11/03/2010 19:47

Wow Rageagainstthewashingmachine - good shopping haul! Its like the Avid Fans capsule wardrobe! Am mightily impressed and a little bit envious! May just have to stop faffing, bite the bullet and order the All Saints dress.

notyummy · 11/03/2010 19:52

mm - is it the new Hotel du Vin there? You must report back. We have done 4 of them so far, and are going back to the Cheltenham one for 2 nights without dd next month. let us know what it is like!

Romanarama · 11/03/2010 19:53

tracey you're absolutely right, I have learned my lesson. The theory iirc was really short. I have one interview on 18 March, and there will 2 others around that time though I don't know which day yet.

I love that Temperley dress.

(love your name rage!)

notyummy · 11/03/2010 19:57

Oooh, i saw tht stripey Alice by Temperley dress in Grazia and lusted after it, but haven't been able to find it anywhere.....but am not sure I could carry it off anyway!

Hells - do tell! What is the cut like? Does it flatter you, and if so, roughly what shape are you? (lots of personal questions - feel free to tell me to poke off!)

PS: I would love to meet up, although I feel an incipient style crisis coming up if and when we do!!

notyummy · 11/03/2010 19:59

Roma - as I am vicariously buying work clothing through you (I really can't justify any more!) I am GUTTED to hear that jacket isn't good. I had picked it as one of my own!

Romanarama · 11/03/2010 20:02

notyummy it looks great if you arrange it just so and stand just so. An actual day in the office I think would be a different story. Cakey was right as usual - straight, simple and symmetrical is the way to go for the office.

LetThemEatCake · 11/03/2010 20:08

Not until Dec/ Jan .... a while off yet!! How would we arrange it? Would it be easier to do outside of summer hols so that those with school-age dcs are less encumbered?

I am present mad - giving and receiving. Partly cos of my mum who brought me up to always "knock with my elbow" ie never go anywhere empty-handed ... and who was brought up without a mum or dad so wanted to lavish the attention on her dcs that she'd missed out on. I had monthly birthdays . And then my real b'day is right on Xmas, as is my dad's ... he used to get saddled with the one present thing so when i was born, he was adamant that his 'princess' would not get the same treatment ... and massively over-gave instead.

enough witter ... going back to ooooh over links

traceybath · 11/03/2010 20:09

Roman - this is nice

Notyummy - I tried the Alice dress on in Harvey Nichols. It was very nice but would be fairly short if you're tall and its very clingy. Nice though - I would think better on someone tall. The detail was too much on me being a munchkin.

notyummy · 11/03/2010 20:13

Mmm, perhaps the Alice dress is not for 5 ft 10 inch me then - my knees have started to head south and I can't really do short with bare legs anymore. My legs are actually quite slim and toned (apart from the upper thighs...that a whole different thread...) but I think the running I do has taken its toll on the appearance of my knees as they look a droopy these days.

LetThemEatCake · 11/03/2010 20:26

phew!! Ok. let's see how my memory is faring ....

Roman those Louboutins are just lovely .. I think marsha had a yen for them a few threads ago too ... bonsoir also had a tale of nude Loubou wearing ... sorry about the VW jacket, what a shame... but am very thrilled to have been right about something of an S&B nature

notyummy I love that Alice dress too but am same height as you .. hells is 5'8" and said prob too short on me

GW very very pretty skirt - did you get blue or black?

Rage hello and hello. Very impressed with your purchases!! and glad that you've de-lurked.

any thoughts on those Ash heels? snog, marry, avoid?

Romanarama · 11/03/2010 20:32

On nap it says the model's 5.10 though and it doesn't look that short.

The Louboutins were out of stock in my size, so considering these instead, but they're not so nice really.

RageAgainstTheWashingMachine · 11/03/2010 20:33

OWW - in my defence I sort of lost my fashion mojo after DD2 (think lots of velour tracksuit bottoms !). Have spent the last few weeks ebaying my work wardrobe and in the spirit of the thread am doing my utmost to spend the proceeds on purchasing wisely with the (limited) proceeds!

LTEC - My sister was an early Jan baby and in our family it was moved to July. In the same spirit our DD2 now has a birthday on the 1st August (though in reality she is a bit like the queen and has two - her real one being in December). Actually in my family we have ... birthday eve, birthday and boxing birthday ... love a party my family.

DolceeBanana - Have just googled Plain English Kitchen - Home Furnishing Porn for me though not very likely in my current abode .

Roma - Your links are the one thing that make me regret not working ... well that and and an uninterrupted lunch hour (pure back office me - hardcore front office didnt do lunch!).

Sorry, enough off topic with no links, shall start in earnest trying to find something amazing to link to ...

traceybath · 11/03/2010 20:38

Not sure on those heels ltec - the leather is just slightly the wrong colour I think.

I need to buy a clutch bag for this wedding - want either silvery or nudey colour. Here are the contenders:

minus the strap

beady

stone

suede

Forest

What do you think?

Romanarama · 11/03/2010 20:39

Yeah I'm not particularly interested in the actual work, it's more the dressing up, going out to talk to adults all day, reading the paper, lunch appointments. The odd trip for a few nights in a nice hotel by myself. And particularly the salary.

traceybath · 11/03/2010 20:41

DS2's birthday is boxing day which is a totally rubbish day for a birthday. Have contemplated doing a party for him in the summer instead but its just not quite the same is it?

I know on MN summer birthdays are seen as bad planning but I love having a birthday in august.

traceybath · 11/03/2010 20:43

Roman - I tell you a job that involved a few nights away in a hotel would be my dream [not blessed with good sleepers emoticon]

LetThemEatCake · 11/03/2010 20:48

My favourite-ever line from Ally McBeal "But I only come to work to wear my outfits!!"

tracey having not seen your dress and shoes, 'tis tricky. Think I like the beady one best.

LetThemEatCake · 11/03/2010 20:52

had interesting insight into my ongoing body dysmorphia today. Was out running, crossed paths with another mum who, to me, looks great. When we saw one another on the nursery run later in the afternoon, she mentioned her weight - 13st. She is an inch or so shorter than me. Yet somehow I thought she was thinner than I am. Weird, right?

traceybath · 11/03/2010 20:56

We need a new thread I think.

I also miss the after work drinks.

I like the beady one too and realise I'm being less than helpful in posting no links to items I'll be wearing. Its these shoes in purple can't find a link to dress though as Zara.

Does anyone else hate having to find outfits for specific occasions - I like buying clothes because I like them not because I have to if that makes sense. Have made so many mistakes in the past with desperation purchases for weddings/parties etc.

notyummy · 11/03/2010 20:57

See, I TOLD you stop weighing yourself woman!

notyummy · 11/03/2010 21:02

I know what you mean tracey....my biggest flaw is buying clothes for a Lifestyle I Do Not Have!

Before dd i used to go out more often, and before that I was a miltary officer and went to loads of evening dos where you needed proper long dresses. I still find myself looking at that sort of thing and have to give myself a good talking to. I literally have about 20 formal/long evening dresses.

I.Do.Not.Need.Any.More.

OllieWollieWoo · 11/03/2010 21:03

Traceybath - love the suede, beaded and stone bags. Sorry - cannot remember what outfit you plan to wear tho! Think the stone one would be a good non wedding buy as well - something for my wish list maybe?

The more I look at it, the more I like the Temperley dress.
