Trainers for A/w - what are you wearing?

I am so over this heat and v much looking forward to packing my sandals away until next year!
On that note, I’m looking to upgrade my everyday trainers and never quite know what’s currently trendy and comfy.
Are colours still in, or are we heading back towards neutrals? Not really a fan of anything too bold, but I do like richer autumnal tones burgundy, chocolate brown, dark green etc.
What are you all planning to wear this A/W? Any particular trainers you’d recommend? Would love some inspo!

I have tigers that I will carry on wearing in yellow. But I have also just purchased some speedcats in beige. And I have black and cream and chocolate brown sambas too.

piscofrisco · 22/08/2026 06:47

My dram pair would be the mui mui x new balance ones with the green laces. But I don’t have a spare £860 😬

My friend was wearing these recently and I am eyeing a pair up for myself now. I was an avid Adidas girl but they’re everywhere now.

I can’t see the appeal. They’re exactly the same look as veja / white company. I think it’s been done

There are some acne studios that I have my eye on but struggling to justify the cost! Also waterproof trainers changed my life last year so I’ll look for some again this year definitely

I second flower mountain and Hoff but I’m also on the lookout for some alohas or autry

I would love a pair of flower mountain but are they worth it / comfortable?!

Another vote for onitsuka tigers , I’ve two pairs, these and the white colour way. They are hands down the comfiest trainers I’ve ever owned, hidden arch support, soft, and a more delicate profile.

I can also recommended the me and em ones., I have them in the tan and also cream which they don’t have any more, just that bit smarter than the tigers, but better with trousers,

I'm so tempted by the Me an Em ones but almost £200 😩 😫

Are they true to size @Venusunbroken ? And have arch support?

Newmeagain · 22/08/2026 09:19

PenelopePritstop · 16/08/2026 22:17

I love Hoff but they don't fit me.
There are no half sizes.
5 too small, 6 too big.

Although the link is a different style, so maybe worth looking at!

Edited

You must be the same size as me as I have exactly the same problem!

Waterproof trainers? This would be brilliant and give me an option other than Chelsea boots all winter. Which ones do you recommend?

Adidas specials in chocolate brown with pink stripes. Brand still sitting in the box ready for autumn to start, we’ve a few city breaks booked so these are perfect

TheFairyCaravan · 22/08/2026 15:53

I’m waiting for these to be delivered

Do the Tigers all have the funny mesh stuff going on or are there solid ones available?

MummyNJ · 22/08/2026 20:27

I wear Brooks ghost trainers for work and adidas trainers for everyday casual. I’m short but can’t wear heels so I wear the platform version of Adidas unless I’m stealing my kids docs, converse or vans. I’m also hyper mobile so trainers are my go to for comfort and I have a variety of colours to go with most outfits brights and bolds and more neutral colours.

SchnitzelAgain · 22/08/2026 20:46

Just bought these. I hope they are lovely on but sometimes I get my hopes up and then look awful in whatever I’ve bought. Fingers crossed.

I think I’m going to get a pair of maroon spezials on payday this week

Colours are out of fashion, if that’s something you care about. Chunky 90s style white trainers are big. New balance and Nike mostly.

Chunky white look is out now I thought?

Still seems to be going strong among the fashion students. Was told coloured trainers are “mumsy”. But then mums should do their own thing. There seems to be a lot of panic about trainers on this website!

Personally have had the same Superstars for years, which don’t fit in either category, and am not planning a change 😀

Honestly, absolutely nobody wears chunky white trainers in my area anymore. They feel completely dated here. Fashion students might still wear them ironically or as a niche artsy look, but for the vast majority of people, that ship has sailed. The actual mainstream trend now is all about very slim, low-profile shapes, suede earth tones, or retro runners with a pop of colour. I am pleased about this, I was so sick of the whole huge white trainers and dresses look.

AnitaCam · 23/08/2026 12:34

Surely using ‘ mumsy’ as a negative is hate speech/ mysogyny?!

lovingthebeachlife · 23/08/2026 15:21

Hate speech? 😆

lovingthebeachlife · 23/08/2026 15:22

@DarkchocolateAndtea my experience too

Silverbirchleaf · 23/08/2026 16:09

We’ve just had a hot summer, so I think footwear choices has been skewed by that. Lots of sandals being worn, with the two-strap Birkenstocks (or other similar-styled shoes) leading the way. I’m not sure anyone can truely say which a/w trend will take off although I do agree that the white trainer/dress combo is over now.

However, walking around London and threads like this shows there’s a real variety in what people are choosing.

I think the problem with low rise, muted suede trainers is that they look crap with big/wide/flared jeans and trousers. Or solid legs. The proportions look wrong. A bit of chunk or heel looks better.

Anyway I have just bought ponyskin ballet flats with a strap from TKMaxx. No laces. My go to until I am forced into boots.

lovingthebeachlife · 23/08/2026 17:04

So many Birkenstocks this summer - they are always about but normally other sandals exist too. Teens in the Bostons with socks both sexes. Everyone else in Arizona’s

VioletSeagull · 23/08/2026 17:04

My university students tend to wear trainers in a variety of colours. White trainers are still popular, though usually with some colour. Trainers that are in super bright colours all over aren't particularly fashionable. However, last autumn/winter a lot of the women students tended to wear Ugg slip-on shoes (or Ugg knock-offs), the kind that look like slippers, rather than trainers. They wore them with oversized hoodies and wide-leg joggers/sweatpants. It was almost like a uniform. I'll be interested to see what the students will be wearing this autumn/winter. I'm always intrigued by the styles that are similar to what I wore as a university student (many moons ago) and those that are completely different.
