Beauty & Fragrance Advent Calendars- Info/Chat 2026 SPOILERS

Hi everyone who is joining from the Beauty GWP chat threads and welcome to anyone else.

Last year our lovely @BakeOffRewatch did an amazing job running all the threads through to December. This year due to the time commitment it takes, we're going to try and run them as a community effort.

Guidelines
I'm starting this first one but hoping that when a thread looks close to ending another thread member can set the next one up.

To avoid duplicate threads please try to post in the thread that's ending to alert everyone you're setting up a new one.

Other members check who was first to offer and whether a new one is live.

It might be an idea to keep a list of advents that are live in the OP and later on which are sold out. This can be copy/pasted/edited when a new thread is started.

It probably goes without saying but please be courteous and patient with each other. This thread will have spoilers and please no judging of others for their purchasing choices. Participation in the threads is optional.

I don't know how well this will work out but thanks in advance to everyone who helps out.

@BeanNaGealai I've tried to be succinct but this is massive post apologies! So, disclaimer being perfume taste is very individual of course, and I don't really know how to talk about perfume. I came out of the store with a blinding headache so must have overdone the sniffing anyway - it wasn't wise to try most of the perfumes in one go! At least one of the perfumes has quite a strong synthetic note that disagreed with me. I wanted to test a few as I know I don't really like the Delina Exclusif enough and didn't know any of the others. and having now tried a load I'm not convinced it's for me tbh. In terms of what I do/don't like generally, I tend not to like really sweet scents and gourmands, or very heavy scents. So bearing that in mind here's my take on the perfumes -
Thameen - light, wearable, very inoffensive floral / clean smell. Safe for work. Feminine. Gets quite powdery after a few hours, ends up a quite nice skin scent but nothing very interesting about it.
BDK Impadia - Initially really liked this, I think it's very similar to Delina. But then it got more and more like Delina Exclusif and ended up too sweet. Gets fruitier as it settles and as the sharpness wears off it gets a bit sickly. Amazing longevity. Bit odd to have this in a calendar with Delina Exclusif maybe.
Memo Paris - starts off smelling like pure argan oil- so smells of horses and hay, not great. Mystified as to why this perfume was made tbh, it must be reacting badly with me or something. Gets better but I can still smell horse. Just found a card with this on and yes it's way nicer, still leathery but no damn horse smell.

Amouage - Very sweet nutty / honey note, I found this cloying and unpleasant initially. It's better after a couple of hours. 4 hours after spraying it's becoming a friendly comforting smell. Strong.
Ex Nihilo- smelt lush in the bottle, expensive, quite masculine. Think I'm noseblind by now as I can only smell it lightly after a few hours.
These ones I only sprayed on card as I'd run out of skin -
Initio - sometimes Oud/agar wood smells medicinal and resin/pine-y - this has that quality. Not at all girly. Ends up warmer/ softer and way nicer than first spray, but it takes a long time to get there.
Maison Frances - another medicinal Oud. Smells cold. Very strong. Gets softer and kind of intriguing but makes me think of morgues.
Jeroboam - I liked this, although theoretically it's 2 things I'm not mad on - a bit sweet and quite strong saffron initially.
Born to stand out - butterscotch popcorn and sour milk at first. I didn't spray this on skin as I'd read some people smell the off-milk. I am one of them. After a few hours it's burnt butterscotch with extra butter and has improved hugely.

I don’t think any of them will be hiring you for their marketing department any time soon 😂

Thank you. That’s really helpful. I’m now debating it. I might get on to ChatGPT, tell it some perfumes I like/dislike and see what it says.

MiaN · 28/07/2026 13:08

I tested the Thameen and the dry down is very different to the opening. It doesn't settle as fresh imo

MiaN · 28/07/2026 13:12

I don't think Harrods targets the fresh, clean and polite scent lovers :).

This is what I do, I have a running conversation with chatgpt. I sometimes have to tell it off though, it assumes that I buy everything that I put into it 🤣

Yes, it can be a bit thick at times.

It’s currently telling me I’ll like the calendar but keeps changing its mind on which ones I’ll like.

Mine thinks I'll like everything apart from oud for greatness, it lists that as a maybe. I have smelt it before when it was announced in the JL calendar last year, I liked it but it's v masculine, so I think it'll go in my husband's Frankenstein calendar 😊

No, I think Harrods is heavily influenced by their Middle Eastern market. People in the Middle East like all those heavy Oud scents and fragrances without alcohol, such as Thameen etc.

Doglover73 · 28/07/2026 14:15

Thanks @LightandBreezy I now want it even less. 🤣
I dont need to ask chat gbt the descriptions alone tell me enough. I dont trust it anyway. I think thats why ive had it in my basket the last 2 years but not bought. Thought theyd be too heavy. And now I have loads more fragrance so would rather not spend a fortune if I know I wont like the majority. Will see how I feel. 🤪
I know you can sell on but cba. Tbh
Great descriptions 🤩

QueefofSheena · 28/07/2026 14:44

I wish some of the others like HN would give us a clue on their FAC contents. I know its early but it would really help. I'll probably still try for Harrods and all other others though 🤭

LightandBreezy · 28/07/2026 16:23

For more context I definitely didn't do the calendar any favours by trying the scents on a hot summer's day - None of them are suited to warm weather imo. They could be far more tolerable on cold days, apart from the horse one for me obviously. @IlovePond weirdly I can imagine Golden Milk could be one that grows on you too. Too sweet for me but it definitely vastly improved with time. Totally agree with @MiaN about the Thameen too, the fresh note disappears and it gets quite powdery and sweet. Over all the Chat GPT analysis will be more helpful than my subjective opinion, I know the Amouage Guidance is very well regarded and loved for instance, but it's definitely not my cup of tea. Jeroboam Gozo was the only one I liked really, and I'd say it's very benign witch @JoRaRaRa more of a fairy godmother even 😂

🤣 but still magical 😍 I had thought that if I did get it, that I'd open it on the 12 weeks running up to Christmas eve, and was hoping that the Jeroboam would be before Halloween.

JoRaRaRa · 28/07/2026 17:01

Just seen another influencer on insta with the Harrods FAC 😤 Not one I follow, just a suggestion for me from insta to just p*ss me off 🤣

I wonder if this is the vogue advent for 2026.

Oooh @mrsbnow12 that is a gorgeous box if so! Vogue '23 is my pinnacle of BACs, it was amazing. The next two years weren't anywhere near as good.

Agreed. 2023 was the one I listed after and didn’t buy- it was soooo expensive back then. I caved and bought it last year - it was meh. They added a lot of the perceived value on to ridiculous things, like the crappy Moschino bag tag. Some bits were nice, but it wasn’t THAT nice. It would have to knock it out of the park to tempt me again.

Thelifeofawife · 28/07/2026 18:26

@LightandBreezy Fantastic descriptions! Some of them sound very nice for me, but the ones that smells of horse and morgue I think I’ll swerve 🤣🤣

Nothing. I worded that badly

Are people still getting notifications from the Harrods app? I've messed around with all of my settings but I've not received anything.

Mine all stopped maybe a month or so ago, no emails either. First contact with CS they said they had reset everything. Still nothing! Second contact I asked to contact IT and now I’m getting Harrods emails but I haven’t seen anything else yet, no app notifications, no H beauty emails but it’s only been a few days so I was going to give it some more time.

Hmm, I wonder if they have stopped testing it then. I might still delete and re install. It's going to be rather annoying if we miss out on getting the calendar because they can't notify everyone. But it wouldn't be advent season without a Harrods fk up 🤣🤣

I noticed on this thread a suggestion of using the 15% new customer discount on the Korres Advent Calendar when it launches in a few weeks time - seems like an excellent plan as I love their products and often bring some back when I’m in Greece on holiday https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5559084-korres-whats-good?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=app_share

Oooh good idea @Defiantly41

Growlybear83 · 29/07/2026 08:22

@Defiantly41I had the Korres calendar last year and whilst I have used everything, just be aware that the sizes of everything were really tiny.

Thelifeofawife · 29/07/2026 09:52

This has just reminded me that I ordered a couple of Korres shower gels from TK Maxx after seeing them recommended on here and haven’t tried them yet. Had I remembered, I wouldn’t have ordered another SDJ delices shower gel from LF last night, as I’ve already got a back up of that.

I like the idea of the calendar to try the range properly, even if it is small sizes (probably better for me actually, given my lack of space 🙈😅)
