Too white for a wedding guest dress?

I have my eye on this for a spring wedding. I love prints, it’s silk and is in the sale - perfect combination.

However, I showed it to my mother and she said “But it’s white!” in a horrified way. I was bewildered. I don’t believe most people’s first thought on looking at this would be “white”. To me, it’s all about the print - and in any case, the background looks more cream to me.

I love it, but not for the first time, my mother has created a nagging doubt. Would anyone really think I was trying to look remotely bridal in this?

I think it’s ok. It’s floral with white.

Come on now

Iloveeverycat · 14/02/2026 14:02

Nothing wrong with it. I don't get this no white for a wedding unless it's bride like.

BlueWellieSocks · 14/02/2026 14:03

I wouldn't.

I just think there are so many other options on colour- just let the bride be the only one in the white dress.

Twasasurprise · 14/02/2026 14:03

It looks white, with floral, to me. In a group photo, you will stand out as being in white. I'm with your mum, sorry.

im with your mum too sorry

ItsOnlyHobnobs · 14/02/2026 14:04

Hmm I don’t think I’d risk it personally.

It is a beautiful dress though.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 14/02/2026 14:04

Yes far too white

What?

What do you mean, "what?"?

You've been told by your mum its not appropriate.

You felt unsure enough to start a thread about it.

Why the faux confusion?

Iloveeverycat · 14/02/2026 14:05

I really don't get all these it's not suitable.

Willowskyblue · 14/02/2026 14:05

Another saying absolutely not.

Bluegreenbird · 14/02/2026 14:06

Worried now. I have bought a light cream dress with blue flowers on it for two weddings this year. Didn’t even occur to me it might be seen as a faux pas!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 14/02/2026 14:06

Well if your mother and some other posters here are saying no then get something else.

Conta1nment · 14/02/2026 14:06

It’s beautiful but I could also see a bride who doesn’t want a big dress picking it

mcmuffin22 · 14/02/2026 14:07

It is too white.

Francestein · 14/02/2026 14:07

Why don’t you ask the bride what she thinks?

Upthenorth · 14/02/2026 14:07

It looks quite bridal to me.

I would go for a different colour.

I think people are to sensitive now. It's not a wedding dress.

CoastlineAtlantic · 14/02/2026 14:08

When I first saw your post, with photo, my first thought honestly was " oh what a pretty wedding gown'

I like it too, it's very pretty.
However, sorry OP, I have to side with the 'don't' group.

SlashBeef · 14/02/2026 14:08

I wouldn't, personally. There's literally every other colour to choose from so it always feels like someone has gone out of their way to wear white or cream at a wedding. You don't need to.

AfternoonTeaAddict · 14/02/2026 14:09

aaaahhh.... I think too white also I am afraid. Unless you have like a fuschia coloured jacket and belt or something similar.

Row23 · 14/02/2026 14:09

Definitely do not wear that. It looks like a wedding dress that someone who doesn’t want a traditional dress would wear. The shape and colour are too similar to an actual wedding dress.
I think you’ll feel self concious that people are judging you if you wear this to a wedding.

waltzingparrot · 14/02/2026 14:09

A lot of bridal dresses have floral decorations now, so this could be a good one for an informal bride.

Trundlingblind · 14/02/2026 14:09

I think it’s okay, but would accessorise with deep pink shoes, wrap/jacket etc
