Too white for a wedding guest dress?

I have my eye on this for a spring wedding. I love prints, it’s silk and is in the sale - perfect combination.

However, I showed it to my mother and she said “But it’s white!” in a horrified way. I was bewildered. I don’t believe most people’s first thought on looking at this would be “white”. To me, it’s all about the print - and in any case, the background looks more cream to me.

I love it, but not for the first time, my mother has created a nagging doubt. Would anyone really think I was trying to look remotely bridal in this?

Will crease to buggery

NarwhalBuddy · 14/02/2026 14:10

It’s too white

EffectivelyDaydreaming · 14/02/2026 14:11

Too white sorry

LadyBrendaLast · 14/02/2026 14:11

Gorgeous dress, but are your quite mad?

ImPamDoove · 14/02/2026 14:11

It’s fine; it’s not remotely bridal.

It looks quite bridal to me.

I would go for a different colour.

This.

The photo looks like a wedding dress to me.
I really wouldn't OP.

What do you mean, "what?"?

You've been told by your mum its not appropriate.

You felt unsure enough to start a thread about it.

Why the faux confusion?

There is no “faux confusion”. Your comment was pretty meaningless - I didn’t understand why you wrote it.

“Come on now” could mean “Come on, it’s nothing like a bridal dress” or “Come on, it’s obviously too white”. If you can’t give a bit of basic context, save your typing time and my reading time.

I think it's fine....lots of flowers and coloured accessories.... plainly not a wedding dress

HeddaGarbled · 14/02/2026 14:13

It’s a bit bridal 😃

MrsMitford3 · 14/02/2026 14:13

It's much too white-

I completely agree with a PP who said in the photos-especially in a group-you will look like you are wearing white.

You can wear it to Ascot if you want!

EgregiouslyOverdressed · 14/02/2026 14:13

It's too bridal. Choose something else.

Thattimenow · 14/02/2026 14:13

even setting aside the white issue, and the fact it will crease to buggery if silk…. It’s just not a very nice dress

Great someone else who is not weird about dresses for weddings.

RancidRuby · 14/02/2026 14:16

I think if the print was all over it’d be ok but the bulk of the dress is cream with the pattern to the edges, you see the colour first and the print second. Shame as it’s a beautiful dress.

Namechangedforthis25 · 14/02/2026 14:16

No, why would you

the photo will show the bride and you as the two women wearing white

Pick any other colour

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · 14/02/2026 14:17

I think it's one of those occasions where "if in doubt, don't" applies. It's probably fine, but you don't want to be worrying about it. There are so many dresses around, it's easy to avoid majority white ones.

Thanks, but I was only asking about the colour.

Yes, this is too white for a wedding guest.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 14/02/2026 14:18

I think there's too big an expanse of white in it, but then again where else would one wear it other than a wedding?

I would wear it with a very large bold coloured picture hat.

Mum1928238 · 14/02/2026 14:18

It looks bridal to me - cream and floral.

Reportingfromwherever · 14/02/2026 14:18

I also think it’s too white. Sorry.

Well you’ve got your answer

so what you going to do?

KeepOffTheQuinoa · 14/02/2026 14:19

It's lovely.

I think part of the 'no white' rule is so that the bride is the only eye catching splash of white in the photos.

So IMO it is too white for a wedding guest. But traditions (and nuanced consideration) are dying out.

Do not wear this dress. You will stand out for all the wrong reasons.
