I think I'm done with glittery nails at Christmas

I just looked at mine which I only have during December and realised I can't wait to get them off and changed to a plain colour. And it got me thinking, are glittery nails a bit "im a crazy middle-aged mum #LiveLaughlove "?

They’re lovely. Subtle and nicely festive.

imadeitnice · 21/12/2025 17:40

I like a bit of Christmas sparkle but not for long and I’ll change it on the 27th!

If you want brutal honesty, manicured nails are nearly always naff. I think some very cool looking people can get away with ironic nail art, but that’s a rarity.

xmasstress12 · 21/12/2025 17:47

Xmas nail art only looks good until Dec 24th

But that’s before Christmas

gudetamathelazyegg · 21/12/2025 17:51

I love having Christmas nails, I go full on with nail art and just love it. Halloween and birthday and sometimes just because. My nail tech is a friend now and she does amazing art for me. I said these feel like John Lewis wrapping paper ✨

I went for gold glitter french tips in an almond shape. Very subtle but a hint of Christmas.

My daughger went for red French and glittery red nail art which seems to be popular.

I was very ill in the summer and my nails are awful they're splitting at anything. I can't even do sellotape as I've no thumb nails left. I was thinking about stick on nails but I remembered that they never fit my normally chunky nails

Mine were also terrible earlier this year. I couldn't even get things out of my handbag as they were bending and splitting.

If it's helpful, they are a lot better now a few months on. I used Sally Hansen miracle cure, which is just a clear colour. So they didn't look great as all the damage was visible.

It's helped a lot and after a few weeks I even had some growth so I just filed them back to keep them very short.

So now I added a nude colour and a top coat of a light glitter on the top. The glitter top coat is multi purpos. Yes it's a bit festive, but more so my nail polish takes forever to try, and with a glittery top coat, any dents or marks are not quite as noticeable.

Oh, and look into taking biotin tablets.

@NoelEdmondsHairGelthey are gorgeous. Very jealous as my fingers and nails are messed up from an allergy years ago.

JahanaraBegum · 21/12/2025 18:08

I love nail art and glitter! On other people and on me too, although I can't do long nails or 3D jewels etc as they get stuck on stuff. Looks great though, creative and fun. I had no idea that while I am sitting enjoying my silly glittery snowflake christmas nails, so many miserable buggers were judging me hahaha. 'Try hard' 'trashy' 'crazy middle-aged' 'naff' 'awful'. Gosh.

JahanaraBegum · 21/12/2025 18:09

@gudetamathelazyegg These are amazing! They add cheer to the day.

Those are fab and I get what you mean about wrapping paper!

I love glittery nails. The sparklier the better. I particularly love the tiny reflective glitter polishes that shine up so brightly in the sunshine or under the right kind of lighting.

But then I also like Radley bags and bootcut jeans so I am, perhaps, not a style icon to be emulated.

Cappie73 · 21/12/2025 18:17

Mine are currently just short with clear gloss I’m thinking about painting them a nice festive black though 🤣

user1471548941 · 21/12/2025 18:18

I wondered if I was being boring with a cashmere type colour with a slight shimmer as my nail lady was telling me about all the other nail art she’s done!

This thread has made me think not 🤣. I couldn’t wait to get rid of the glitter from the first half of December and I am a glitter type of person…. It just gets old on nails!

I would be boring if we all liked the same thing ❤️

Smartiepants79 · 21/12/2025 18:20

I’ve had both glitter and accent nails with nail art. I’m clearly trash.
I love them. I keep them short and pretty.
Personally dislike boring browns, Matt and nudes. Dull, dull, dull. And fugly.
Each to their own.
From watching what others were choosing in the salon, nail art is very much still a thing.

I decided against red glitter this year and went for blue. You can hardly see the glitter but I feel like I’ve made the effort.

I don’t like nail art. I’m 50 and it feels a bit silly on my hands.

Love the shape of your nails!

AorticValve · 21/12/2025 18:33

I have spent all my life biting my nails. A year ago I decided enough was enough. So I am enjoying monthly manicure and gel polish. It may look trashy to some, including myself some months, but rather that than chewed stumps! I am simply having fun after 50 years of nibbling, while their shape improves.

At the moment, they are slightly sparkly dark blue with silver accents. They have a real depth to the blue in the right light. Tomorrow, they will be re-done and I need to decide on something that will do Christmas but also be OK into January. Reds and pinks do suit me better than blues.

Life is short. Decorate your nails however makes you happy. I think it's really sad when women stop doing things that make them happy because they're worried other people might have judgemental thoughts about their age.

That looks great, it’s like a starry sky.

I don’t mind some glitter, love neon in summer, and like the look of different colour tips though I’ve never had that done.

Not a big fan of nail art, but tbh I don’t see it much, I don’t really see anyone that wears it (or just don’t notice).

DHissue · 21/12/2025 18:41

All these nails give me the creeps. They look false and tacky.

HelpMySocksAreTouchingMe · 21/12/2025 18:43

Here are my trashy Christmas set. Coming off on Wednesday and I am thinking of Black with a fine glitter for new year.

Don't look then.

No-one cares about what you think quite honestly.
