Holy grail of lip balms

happygertie · 21/10/2025 21:45

This time of year my lips get so dry which I absolutely hate! I can’t bear dry lips, I have over a dozen lip balms in the go and use laneige lip mask before bed every night but nothing is working right now. I am definitely hydrated so it isn’t that.

I don’t care about the cost, can anyone recommend the world’s most hydrating lip balm?

Another vote for Nuxe!

I've suffered all my life from really dry lips in autumn through winter. Last year I found Beauty Pie Wondergloss collagen lip oil which comes in several colours and it's transformed my lips. Smells/tastes nice and no tingling or stinging at all.

Lanolips. Amazing stuff. I used it when I was on Roaccutane which really dries your skin. It’s amazing.

Buy a small pot of vaseline, it is the best by far and comes in handy little circular metal pots. There's a choice of 'flavours' but I prefer the original. It has been our family's go to, always.

Lansinoh nipple cream 100000%

MaryLennoxsScowl · 23/10/2025 07:45

i use Glossier, the rose one, but I think they’ve reformulated it because the new colours aren’t as good. It used to have oil as well as beeswax and lanolin in and then they made it vegan. So my takeaway is they need the animal fats in them!

Blistex relief cream 100%, the internet was angry when it went out of stock as it is a unique product! I’ve been using since the 1980’s when it was called Blisteze and nothing else compares IMO

Blistex relief cream. Metal tube with red lid is the absolute best when your lips are sore. Then the Blistex Intensive Mousturiser for regular application. Or Carmex. You’ll never suffer again.

I get the worst dry lips in cold weather. Only thing that helps is bepanthen nappy rash cream. Weird but true!

It's because the lanolin in it (a waxy substance from sheep's wool that acts as a powerful moisturizer, emollient, and protectant for your lips).

Lanolips lip balm has it.

Lanolin. Boots do a version, but it's great. I usually put it on at night as a 'lip mask'

I've been using the blue hametan cream this year and it has changed the game for me

Body Shop Hemp lip protector - £6 and actually feels like it moisturises not just sits on top. Can use it round your nose too as it's quite matt and not too glossy/oily. Fragrance fee, taste free.

Also the Weleda Skin Food, I shove it all over my face at night then vaseline on top of my lips in winter - keeps everything moisturised, I use it everywhere and it lasts ages!

Nuxe reve de miel but only from the jar. The chap stick type is a different formula and it's not as good. Thick, non greasy, non sticky, lasts all day, and works well under makeup. I kissed a lot of frogs to find it and will be devastated if it ever goes out of production.

Came here to say this!

a222 · 24/10/2025 01:29

the nuxe one that looks like a honey stick is great and light wearing doesn’t feel ‘claggy’

Back21970 · 24/10/2025 02:07

La Mer if you want to splash out, about £60 and will last about 6 months with daily use - amazing stuff and I’ve tried them all.

A much cheaper alternative is the Ultrasun stick balm with spf.

I have very dry flakey lips that I sometimes tend to bite in winter , if I could afford it I would keep a La Mer in every coat pocket 😊

Nat6999 · 24/10/2025 04:34

Azulenal ointment from Amazon, I have B12 deficiency & my lips regularly split & bleed, it's the only thing that stops it. I use it from when the heating starts coming on in Autumn to when it stops in late spring.

BankfieldForever · 24/10/2025 04:48

Carmex. And get your iron levels checked. When I was younger I was suffering from dry lips for ages, and was obsessed with lip balm. Then they started cracking and getting sore.

Turned out I was very anaemic and since having that treated I only use lip balm as a cosmetic as they don’t get ‘dry’ any more even in winter cold and central heating.

botheredandbewilderedagain · 24/10/2025 05:18

I was in TKMaxx yesterday and they have stocks of nearly all the lip balms mentioned on this thread, including the nipple cream!

I found a product called Honeybalm last year, they use bees wax, there are lots of flavours.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour cream Skin Protectant. Multi-tasking and endlessly useful. Elizabeth Arden Moisturisers Eight Hour Skin Protectant Cream Lightly Scented 50ml / 1.6 fl.oz. | allbeauty https://share.google/Zk1LTCqNXXTgCzyil

I use 8 hour cream all the time.

In fact, I kept the card that I received when I bought some many years ago. It lists 88 uses of 8 hour cream
😀

I will take some photos of it and post it here, but I agree with it being endlessly useful.

I tried every lip balm going when I was on accutane/Roaccutane/isotretinoin for my acne as that literally stops your body secreting any natural oils and sheds skin for fun. I tried all the Vaseline, burts bees, blistex, Aquaphor, etc but nothing I found in boots etc worked!

But the one that worked was Forever Living Aloe Vera with Jojoba. would never have bought it…but someone gave it me and I ended up buying a job lot off eBay like 6 for a tenner - amazing lip balms! Still use them
