Holy grail of lip balms

happygertie · 21/10/2025 21:45

This time of year my lips get so dry which I absolutely hate! I can’t bear dry lips, I have over a dozen lip balms in the go and use laneige lip mask before bed every night but nothing is working right now. I am definitely hydrated so it isn’t that.

I don’t care about the cost, can anyone recommend the world’s most hydrating lip balm?

I think there’s an ingredient in lots of lip balms that irritates me. It seems to kick in at this time of year with weather change/ heating. Then the more I use, the worse it gets. I’ve found best to just use neat almond oil on lips overnight. You can buy little bottles at chemist for £2

Bowies · 22/10/2025 04:54

This one is the most hydrating and healing IMO. It has worked quickly even where I’ve had a split lip from chapping - not sure you will like the taste but better IMO and more effective than 8 hr cream anyway.

The ordinary Squalene lip balm is amazing, especially if left on overnight.
Scores highly on the yuka app too if that matters to you.

Bepanthen at night only as it has a white cast but great for dry lips!

Seconded

Jar: Nuxe Rêve de Miel. Last time I bought it the new formula was a bit grainy though.

Tube: Marcalan or any other lanolin-based nipple balm. That's all I use now. They work so well.

isthismylifenow · 22/10/2025 05:25

I feel like I am the expert on this topic, as I live in a dry country and winter is a real test.

This is what has worked quite well:
8hr cream (I also don't like the taste though)
Vaseline, you get a lip one now
Body Shop hemp stick

I have tried all the usual suspects of Carmex, blistex, DCT, but they moisturize for a short time only and then lips end up drier imo.

Until I found E45 lip and dry skin balm. It's in a small tube so lasts quite well. This honestly is now my holy grail. Nothing else I have tried comes close.

Middlechild3 · 22/10/2025 05:49

Nuxe honey lip balm in the little glass pot. Not the stick. Brilliant stuff. much better than Laneige lip sleeping mask and anything else I've tried. I don't bother trying anything new now as Nuxe is brilliant.

rolandsrat · 22/10/2025 06:22

Carmex but I also have a Burt’s bees that I am using and like.

Sandyshandy · 22/10/2025 06:43

Blistex overnight every night and manolis in the day if needed

BeenChangedForGood · 22/10/2025 07:50

I asked very similar after a horrendous dry episode with my lips last year @happygertie - they were so bad they felt almost burnt 😔

So many people recommended Nuxe (the one in the pot) during the day with Laneige lip mask overnight and the combo has been a game changer for me ☺️ highly recommend!

Mightaswellfaceityoureinmenopauselove · 22/10/2025 07:50

I know this is a bit of a ridiculous price and I’d never have even thought about getting one had I not got it in an advent calendar, but La Mer lip volumiser is the best thing I have ever tried. It’s like a lip gloss but moisturises incredibly. I have had awful dry lips for years and tried everything. This stuff is proper good and lasts ages.

Greysowhat · 22/10/2025 07:53

Badger Balm Lip Balm. No nasty petrochemical by-products, it's all natural and plant based.

cannyvalley · 22/10/2025 07:55

If lip balm isn’t working even though you are using it loads, I would suggest you need something different. If your lips are sore and dry and cracked, you could buy some low strength hydrocortisone… put a little bit in few times a day under Vaseline. See if it helps.

alternatively, you could have sore lips due to fungal infections/thrush type thing. Whereby no amount of lip balm will help. Canisten type dream cream a few times a day under Vaseline will sort this

otherwise., I think Vaseline is the best lip balm to stop them drying out.

TheKeeperofBooks · 22/10/2025 08:03

Agree with vaseline...most others I have tried are too drying

TheGoddessAthena · 22/10/2025 08:07

My lips always got worse with Blistex, Carmex because they both contained salicylic acid which just compounds the problem of chapping and soreness.

The absolute best ones I have found for me are the O'Keefes lip repair (orange tube, about £2.60) and the Burt's Bees range.

queenofthebongo · 21/10/2025 21:48

Blitzeze-white tube with red lid. Then Carmex once that’s soaked in. It’s minty, a bit stingy but the best lip combo ever.

I do this but I thought the white tiny tube was called blistex . But my eye sight has depleted terribly and I really struggle to read with varoficals 😂. I like the cherry one and it’s super soothing. I keep mine in the car as I’d lose it at home, just apply it every day from around October to March and I never get cracked or chapped lips.

Blueuggboots · 22/10/2025 08:10

O’keefe’s overnight lip balm is amazing. I also use blistex med plus.

clinellwipe · 22/10/2025 08:11

lanisoh nipple balm!

Nuxe reve de miel but only from the jar. The chap stick type is a different formula and it's not as good. Thick, non greasy, non sticky, lasts all day, and works well under makeup. I kissed a lot of frogs to find it and will be devastated if it ever goes out of production.

I came here to same Nuxe (from the jar not the stick) too. I have a stash of it in case they ever stop making it. Amazing stuff.

Fedupoftheshits · 22/10/2025 08:20

Blistex MedPlus, it’s fantastic and saves my lips

Over the years, I have tried pretty much everything listed. The only thing that works when my lips are really dry is Lansinoh nipple cream. Before bed and then during the day if needed. It’s magic.

Achewyhamster · 22/10/2025 08:46

A fee years ago I swore by carmex but someone on here put up a link for chain bridge farm lip balms (I think it was on a Harry and meghan thread)

I've just gone back for my 3rd order-it has 8% (i think) beeswax

It's amazing stuff-i bought the yellow, pink and purple pots and they are all just as good as each other

I'm going back for the gift box for my mil

If the op is reading this-thank you,you changed my lip balm life!

Barkcloth · 22/10/2025 08:49

I’m glad to hear the red cap Blistex is back!

This episode of Sliced Bread (where they investigate product claims) on lip balms was very interesting - it tells you exactly what should be in a lip balm, and what shouldn’t.

O'Keefe's duo. My daughter used to get lip lickers dermatitis. This cleared it right up and keeps it at bay.
