Holy grail of lip balms

happygertie · 21/10/2025 21:45

This time of year my lips get so dry which I absolutely hate! I can’t bear dry lips, I have over a dozen lip balms in the go and use laneige lip mask before bed every night but nothing is working right now. I am definitely hydrated so it isn’t that.

I don’t care about the cost, can anyone recommend the world’s most hydrating lip balm?

I always recommend Aloe Lips from Forever Living. On Amazon/eBay. It's fantastic. I've used it for years and wouldn't bother with anything else!

I'm a lip balm fanatic. I really rate Nuxe but my absolute favourite is standard Nivea in the dark blue tube with the white base. If my lips are chapped and sore that's what I use.

For anyone suffering with really bad lips i suggest you follow this girl on ista - she has a reel on winter skin and specific, excellent treatments for dry lips

Starlight1984 · 22/10/2025 11:48

Laneige overnight sleep mask.

Vaseline during the day.

MonthlyNameChangeTime · 22/10/2025 11:53

Dermophil Indien, the original version. It can be bought online from French pharmacies. A lady there saw my chapped lips on a train and came up to me and insisted I buy some, I’ve never looked back or bought anything else and I no longer have cracks or perioral dermatitis (which I think was caused by thick, petroleum-y balms)

I always lose lip balms or I have them in the wrong coat pocket when I need them so I generally go cheap and cheerful. I also don't like the jars. The stuff gets under my finger nail which I really don't like. I suppose I could pucker up and apply it like chalking a pool cue but I don't want to. So I always use Nivea. It's in a tube, cheap enough so I can afford several and sold everywhere so easy to replace.

I swear by No1.

Burts Bees night (can’t remember the name but it’s in a pot with a brown lid) I use it all day.

Have tried many of the others on here- Carmex, Blistex, Blisteze, Lanolips, Eight Hour, Vaseline. Burts Bees is the nicest and most effective IME. Also inexpensive.

Admittedly I haven’t tried Nuxe or Laneige or any of the pricier ones.

I find Vaseline makes my lips worse.

Sisley Nutritive Lip Balm. https://www.sisley-paris.com/en-GB/nutritive-lip-balm-161200.html

It's eye-wateringly expensive now so I get it duty free, but it's the only thing that works for me. A little goes a long way though.

I've been using it for about thirty years and the only other thing that comes close is Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream, but the Sisley is much more pleasant to use.

Nutritive Lip Balm - Sisley Paris

The iconic ultra-nourishing lip care for a beautiful smile.

Lanolips 101 multi balm, I use the original or coconut. I used it in all weathers and before bed and it works. Look fantastic often have offers x

Rosequartz7 · 22/10/2025 12:24

Pommade Divine remedy balm. Also works for minor cuts and scrapes and whitlows etc
Swear by it.

OldieButBaddie · 22/10/2025 12:34

Another Nuxe Reve de Miel fan here and I agree the stick is not as good, you need this one
NUXE Rêve de Miel® Nourishing Honey Lip Balm, 15ml

I have tried every lip balm known to man over the years, some work for a little bit, some don't work at all, some make it worse.
This one is a miracle. I put it on morning and evening and my lips are perfect!

I used to be constantly slathering it on all day, so this is a revelation

ChersHeart · 22/10/2025 12:49

Blistex relief cream if the lips are cracked.

I have the O'Keefe orange tube but haven't tried it yet.
Carmex is ok.

If the lips only feel dry, Chapstick.

ChersHeart · 22/10/2025 12:51

Nivea in the dark blue tube with the white base. If my lips are chapped and sore that's what I use.
I find the tinted ones drying but the blue tube one is fine.

AliceMaforethought · 22/10/2025 12:54

I swear by Burt's bees, I also love Nuxe (pot, not stick) and Carmex in a pinch, although I find its efficacy lessens over time. I also make my own lip scrub from coconut oil, sea salt, brown sugar and coffee grounds. Blitz them all together in a blender or a pestle and slather it on in the shower, then gently rub off with a small washcloth. Works a treat. I also notice that my lips are softer and my skin smoother the day after I eat salmon or any other oily fish.

SnappyOchre · 22/10/2025 12:56

I would urge anyone with dry lips to check the contents of their toothpaste. A friend tipped me off about switching to an SLS-free brand if I had dry lips and it improved within days - total transformation.

Isometimeswonder · 22/10/2025 13:01

Ultrasun lip.

JaneyDC · 22/10/2025 13:07

I wear Burts Bee's lip balm every day. I have most flavours - I keep one in every bag, in the kitchen and on my bedside table! My DP spotted pineapple the other day so bought it for me!

I used to use carmex, but I prefer tubes and love burts!

This is my favourite too.

And mine! After years of trying many. Agree about jar version too.

ChersHeart · 22/10/2025 13:49

'skin smoother the day after I eat salmon or any other oily fish.'
I don't eat fish at all, but I notice my skin looks better if I eat avocado.

I should have also mentioned avocado! I often eat the two together haha, so it slipped my mind.

Vaseline is petroleum, so whilst it is a good lubricant again is not good gor your lips. Hydration and Vitamin C E & D are also a necessity

Yeah it didn’t work v well

StokePotteries · 22/10/2025 14:33

Neither Carmex nor Blisteze work for me. The only one I have ever found that actually works is the Japanese version of Nivea honey lipsalve. The UK version doesn't work. But you can buy the Japanese version on Amazon, shipped from Japan. It is heavenly relief. Put it on and your lips don't feel dry again for hours. With everything else I have to reapply it every 10 minutes.

Just checked and it has gone up a lot on Amazon but is sold on this site very cheaply and is also available on ebay.

ChersHeart · 22/10/2025 14:34

Rinse your lips after brushing your teeth. Some brands are worse than others.

Vaseline won't moisturise your lips - it will keep moisture in, but if they're dry already, it won't change that.

Didn't know this, but generally it's better to avoid SLS toothpastes as it can cause ulcers and also that (sorry gross warning) thick slippery coating of dead skin on your inner cheeks.
