Holy grail of lip balms

happygertie · 21/10/2025 21:45

This time of year my lips get so dry which I absolutely hate! I can’t bear dry lips, I have over a dozen lip balms in the go and use laneige lip mask before bed every night but nothing is working right now. I am definitely hydrated so it isn’t that.

I don’t care about the cost, can anyone recommend the world’s most hydrating lip balm?

Carmex is my favourite for during the day. Then I slather on a thick layer of the fragrance-free 8 hour cream overnight

Onefortheroad25 · 22/10/2025 15:01

Another vote for blistex in a pot. You can get it in a stick too. I just prefer the pot. My dd17 gets really dry lips and the blistex pot always does the job.

Check your toothpaste, if it has micro crystals, it might be that. Dries my lips out terribly. Try a lip scuff to exfoliate before moisturising.

Lifelong lipbalm addict here, and I really like the Honeybalm range. The honey flavour is especially good.

Catwalking · 22/10/2025 15:41

blistex ‘Lip Infusions’. I like especially the blue ‘Hydration’ lip salve, has also got ‘’ printed along bottom of label. I’ve been using this for several yrs now, other salves seem to lose effectiveness somehow? but this 1 is still working for me. It’s not expensive either so won’t hurt to try. Has a v. pleasant slight flowery scent.
(…no i don’t have shares @ blistex😊!)
edited to add, @ 69yrs I’ve tried many over the yrs 🤪

Kiss Mix by Eve Lom, expensive but excellent

Emmz1510 · 22/10/2025 15:51

Burts Bees in the wee yellow tub or carmex

Cappuccino5 · 22/10/2025 15:52

Lanolin nipple balm. Not the most glamorous option but it’s all natural and by far the best in terms of hydration and longevity.

La Neige is awful stuff and actually contains acid - it’s meant to ‘gently exfoliate’ but it absolutely wrecked my lips within a few uses and left them more dry than ever! Took months to get them back to normal.

dudsville · 22/10/2025 15:55

I used to use Carmex, but I accidentally discovered that Elizabeth Arden night time miracle moisturiser, which is a face balm, is great on lips. It lasts the day easily. It comes in small pots and it's often on sale somewhere, mine usually comes from Amazon.

Good old palmers cocoa butter lip balm. I've tried cheap ones, fancy expensive ones but this is always the one I come back to. Pure vitamin E oil works very well too but it's sticky.

lynnebenfieldshandbag · 22/10/2025 17:07

La Mer is expensive but unbeatable.

GreenFritillary · 22/10/2025 18:48

I get Hylo-Forte eye drops for very dry eyes. It contains hyaluronic acid, and when I put a drop in my eyes, I also put one on my lips and rub it across. It keeps them just right.
When I use lip balms I get an overgrowth of skin, and find I'm biting my lips.

Your problem is probably your lipbalm! Most of them are terrible. They feel good at first, then they dry your lips out so you put more on, then they get even drier so you put more on again and so on and so on.
If they worked, you’d hardly use any and the companies would sell less. It’s in their best interest that you need to keep applying it every few minutes.
Having said that. The only lipbalms I have ever found that don’t dry your lips out like that are Burts Bees and the refillable ones from Wild.
My lips used to crack and bleed they were so dry until I stopped using so much. Now I only use it twice a day and I never have dry lips any more. You need to wean yourself off your others first though and break the habit of applying it constantly, which is hard. I promise - your lips will thank you for it!

I agree.
A lot of them use contain things like salicylic acid which will dry lips.
Salicylic acid as a medication is commonly used to remove the outermost layer of the skin. (from Wiki)

Elizabeth Arden, 8hr cream, lip balm. Use both.

Dr Sams. Great dermatologist on harley street that has her own line. I have used her for years and she transformed any major skin concern I have had. Her lipbalm is around 13 pounds I believe, lasts a long time. Have used every other one under the sun from super expensive to cheap but this one is the best one. https://drsambunting.com/products/flawless-lip

Agree with this it's amazing and lasts a long time

If lip balm isn’t working even though you are using it loads, I would suggest you need something different. If your lips are sore and dry and cracked, you could buy some low strength hydrocortisone… put a little bit in few times a day under Vaseline. See if it helps.

alternatively, you could have sore lips due to fungal infections/thrush type thing. Whereby no amount of lip balm will help. Canisten type dream cream a few times a day under Vaseline will sort this

otherwise., I think Vaseline is the best lip balm to stop them drying out.

I was suffering from terribly sore and itchy lips for about a month. I tried every lip balm I could get my hands on and I was honestly at my wit's end. I put a tiny smear of Betnovate on them about a week ago and the relief was almost instant! I wish I had thought of it earlier.

YumLemonCheesecake · 22/10/2025 20:30

Lansinoh - I had some left over from breast feeding tried it once and it was amazing!

The 8 hour cream that's specifically for lips is brilliant and doens't have a taste.

Another vote for this. I have the 8 hour lip tin for home and the stick for when I'm out. They're slightly different formulations - I prefer the tin.

Nipple cream!! Seriously, it might sound deranged, but nothing comes close when your lips are dry and bleeding.

TheWalkingEyebag · 22/10/2025 22:10

Skip the lip balm and straight to lanolin! Nothing else compares. It’s amazing!

Coffeeismyfriend1 · 22/10/2025 22:14

O’Keefes. The night repair one is great for overnight (obviously) but they also do one in a stick that is great for the day.

RazorsAtDawn · 22/10/2025 22:25

My lips are never without a slick of Carmex, but the stick version as it's less shiny. I carry it everwhere. I rarely wear lipstick and I find it has bit of a plumping effect, so I use it as a lipstick alternative. Blistex intensive moisturiser (oddly) always brings on a MASSIVE cupids bow cold sore for me, although the relief cream used to be fine from memory.

Instinct1 · 22/10/2025 22:30

Standard original Lypsyl. Cheap as chips. Works like magic. Buy another one for sore skin round your nose with a cold. Immediate fix!
