Is this bag tacky?

I’ve had my eye on this bag for a while since the zip broke on my River Island cross body bag.

Basically I want a cross body bag with the wide strap as they are really comfy to wear.

I do like the colour/style, but I’m a bit unsure about the logo. I’ve never bought a bag with that price tag, always just River Island or Accessorize.

The strap is ugly.

I went to a big city recently and was amazed by the number of middle aged women wearing this style of bag, it was really very noticeable (hadn’t been in a big city for a while). I started trying to count them but couldn’t. Definitely a ‘uniform’ and almost comical in its sudden ubiquity.

I got a lovely one from Ollie and Nic in pale pink recently. Not real leather but good size k very reasonably priced.

A zipper tag, a random chain tag, a giant strap, and 3 metal emblems on the main body, that's a LOT of branding on a tiny bag. So, yes, it is all the tacky.

I like that shape of bag and find it useful when I'm not at work. Mine was from Oliver Bonas though two or three years ago, so cheaper and with no prominent branding.

I'd have the same misgivings as you OP. The colour is fine, the style is great, but bloody hell that logo. It's so off-putting. I hate being expected to spend money on advertising for companies. So I wouldn't buy it. I'd be more likely to go for Osprey's Stella bag in blush or stone, or this one by Elie Beaumont
There's a few around that don't scream their logos at you.

Being middle aged is not a fashion faux pas in itself! Nor does it mean lacking in style.

The wide strap is to avoid shoulder pain. The small bag is to avoid lugging loads of unnecessary kit in a big handbag or tote bag. After years of having a bag which caters for you and all your offspring, it's quite nice in middle age to wear a small bag that only carries what one woman needs.

I have also seen loads of young women with bags like this. FWIW.

Storm - did I say being middle-aged was a fashion faux pas? You’ve assumed that because i said it was a uniform for middle aged women I think that it’s a faux pas for everyone else. I just noted how very popular this style of bag is with middle aged women, and that I found it amusing to note how many there were. Bit like teens wearing grey hoodies and north face puffas - we don’t grow out of following trends even when we think we have and I find it fascinating observing them. I am middle aged and I quite like this style of bag, like many others of my age!

Of those posted so far I like the Fat Face one in green or blue best, I like the absence of logos, and the plain straps that match the bag, I'm not keen on the stripy straps.

I rather like it, that strap looks right to me.

i have a similar one from Ollie and Nic which comes in loads of colours and a couple of different variations on style. You get straps two - one wide and one thinner.

The strap logo is tacky but not as bad as the Marc Jacob’s one linked, there is nothing stylish about walking round with someone else’s name written in huge lettering across you!

It's ubiquity isn't sudden -this style of bag has been everywhere for several years now, but it's popular because you can fit a decent amount in a relatively small, comfortable bag.

I think it’s dated if that’s something you’re concerned about. I bought a camera bag in Italy about 3 years ago and wish I hadn’t. I’d rather not buy a bag that’s going to spike in popularity like that. Anyway assuming you don’t care about that I think it’s fine - it’s not tacky at all.

I quite like it but this style has been all the rage for a few years now so wouldn’t buy it for myself. I would look for an alternative style of bag.

OP - if you like it, that’s what matters, but personally I would go for a non-logo strap because I think they’re a bit naff (whoever’s name is emblazoned on it).
