Chic French woman or old man sandal? Help.

I have been looking at these for a while - I think they look "cool French woman"/ a bit Sezane - but do they look like old man on hols?

I'm so undecided, they are quite different from my usual style, which is more feminine and heels - I completely avoided the clumpy DM/sandal thing.

I do like a swedish clog but they can be annoying to walk in.

I really like them! Very flattering and lovely neutral colour

DarcyProudman · 06/06/2025 23:03

I have these from last year

They don't do it for me, I am already tetering on the edge of frumpy and those shoes would push me off the edge.

I seem to remember wearing similar to primary school with frilly white socks, and the utter misery of the clumpy shoes every morning. I used to put them in the dog bed and hope he would chew them:) .

Doesn't the leather rub? And do you end up with stripy tan feet?

I've got the Kynance in bronze, a word of warning you need to size down as they're very generously proportioned. The size 5's are more like a traditional size 6.

They are old man on holiday. I normally love LaRedoute but not those.

If you want a French look then why not just get the sezane ones
https://www.sezane.com/en-en/product/allie-low-sandals/glossy-chocolate#size-3

Oh I love those. Does anyone have them? What is the sizing like?

I only see European old men wearing the male versions of these and they tend to be chic.

Yes my thought exactly. They are “old man on hols” but he’s a chic French old man!

If you’re a 5ft 10 model and you’re wearing them ironically, they’ll look great. If you’re an ordinary shaped person with British colouring, you’ll look a bit odd in them.

M103 · 07/06/2025 14:46

I love the ones you originally posted OP, much more than those linked by others. But I am not at all a fashionable person!

LittleHouseOnThePrarie · 07/06/2025 14:58

They are an old style from decades back, reinvented.

Still horrible.

quirkychick · 07/06/2025 15:57

I like the Grensons ones v much - but I wear quite a lot of black, androgynous sandals. I think it depends on your proportions (I look silly in dainty sandals) and how you style them.

BIossomtoes · 07/06/2025 16:07

Love the Cos ones. I really like this style but then I have got skinny ankles so the contrast works.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 07/06/2025 18:20

I like them. Clark's do a similar pair and have done for years.
i have CP and have at last found sandal types that I can actually keep on my foot
Birkenstock Tokio Clogs with a heel strap.
Im so happy!

HelenHywater · 07/06/2025 23:13

I quite like them OP, but probably in black. I actually really like these ones - they had them in Matches before they went bust. I'm not sure I could pull them off though.

Maddy70 · 07/06/2025 23:22

I think they are hideous sorry

Denimrules · 07/06/2025 23:26

SunnieShine · 06/06/2025 12:56

Dies anyone else remember how massively popular these were in the late '70s/early '80s?

Yes, throughout the winter with coloured tights and a skirt in upper sixth 1980

SunnieShine · 07/06/2025 23:26

TreesAtSea · 06/06/2025 22:50

I just remembered I had a plain bright blue one too with a white collar. It came from Chelsea Girl and had an imitation Fred Perry style embroidered logo on the front to complete the look. Ah, those were the days...

I was going to say did it come from Chelsea Girl. Did anyone have the maroon one with thin grey stripes?

Or maybe one of those tiered cotton skirts with the petticoat hanging under the hem? 😀

So Milan, Tokyo, Paris have been on a classic paired back styling groove all this year. Here you can see it in H and M, Zara and New Look. Winter/Spring was all simple knitwear and Chanel style. Summer, logically, is this exact kind of shoe if your feet can do that style in the heat. Chunky is not high fashion this year. Birkenstock still ok, but not platforms. In the industry we can't float this look in the UK very easily.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 08/06/2025 07:17

I have gone full on chunky and bought these from Dr Martens https://www.drmartens.com/uk/en_gb/wrenlie-leather-fisherman-sandals-dark-brown/p/31524201 and I love them. I am 5ft 10in so I balance the chunkiness out a bit. I also don’t care if they are ‘fashionable’!

OP, the first pair you linked are 100 times better than anything else suggested. You really don’t need to wear ugly, clumpy shoes.

Booboobagins · 08/06/2025 09:01

They are very fashionable right now along with gladiators. I hope you like them when they arrive.

EllatrixB · 08/06/2025 09:08

weareallcats · 06/06/2025 21:53

I agree that the straps can be awkward - I have some flat mules in this style that I got from Toast. Think the make is Vibae, possibly Finnish. They are very comfortable and look great with midi dresses.
