These trainers - yes or no?

I’m 27, and see my peers wearing things like this all the time, but I also feel like they’re not quite right 😂

New Balance are great trainers and fine for wearing in casual sports look A look that tends to only look good on the sporty.
Hoodies and joggers do not look good and neither do big clumpy trainers.

I've found some bright white clumpy running shoes from the noughties in the backof the cupboard. I shall look young and trendy this weekend!

I love my crocs.

I have gazelles in bright red. Also in bright green with pink stripes - always get lots of compliments when I wear them.

Don't get new balance 327s with the weird bobbly bit up the back if you want to be "in" - they are very past it/middle aged..

I also found they were terrible quality. The front had a hole in within 1 month of light use. It put me off NB as they aren't cheap either when you can't buy juniors.

LogicalBlodge · 30/05/2025 17:45

New Balance is a long standing British Brand that was v popular amoung runners. They hit upon this style of shoe that became very fashionable. But the actual quality is moderate and expensive. These are and always will be fashion trainers. They do have some extremely expensive ones c £150-£200 that and the quality is better.
I don't think you could pass wearing them with something smart though.

I would probably go for an Adidas - red or beige or funky coloured. I saw someone with blue and orange or yellow laces. Or one of the ethical trainer brands ( not sure but think Spain are making some good ones).

I’m really on the fence about them, I need a good pair of “mum” shoes but also don’t want to look like I’m wearing my nan’s shoes!

I think the style is fine, it's the brown that's giving the 'nan' vibes! I wear all white trainers which are otherwise very similar (and hope to God they don't look ridiculous!)

Spambridge · 30/05/2025 18:04

I've found NB quality to be good, but I've not worn the 327s, which I'd class as a fashion shoe. I'd class the sambas an gazelles fashion shoes.

The 327 wearers seem to be 'mum age group' not teens.

Edited

Honestly brown and white (or ideally brown and cream) is much more in currently than all white.

I also like the look of these from adidas, but again I’m just not sure! I feel like I have okay fashion taste, but my shoes always let me down

I like these much better.

StMarie4me · 30/05/2025 22:01

I’m here marvelling that some people think trainers can look too sporty! They’re literally sports shoes?!

Spambridge · 30/05/2025 22:24

@StMarie4me , but some are leisure/fashion shoes and some were originally designed for running marathons in.

MrsBlobby64 · 30/05/2025 22:41

There are nicer trainers around tbh...

What about something like this @WombForTwo otherwise I normally go for New balance trainers. Or skechers https://www.mandmdirect.com/01/details/XS463?istCompanyId=9f9ff470-bcac-401b-814f-8f12edbd3b8b&istFeedId=d66f05e8-0145-4833-93eb-995bd3c15e0b&istItemId=pxlipqxai&istBid=t&ds_rl=1260413&campaignid=19584038344&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19584038344&gbraid=0AAAAAD5OKP2Suk1wJEkt5MOt6mnJ5QOJI&ds_rl=1260413&gclid=CjwKCAjwruXBBhArEiwACBRtHXozLLNfakEfWCPunz1Bi7Pgd5Z5ikOh6czUm-eYnppLs3cf7rNKRhoCc4AQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I have 2 of these skechers. One in white and one in pink. Most comfortable trainers i have had and have lasted about 5 years now and still as good as new. I wear them both equally about 3 times a week each.

New balance are also really good. I wear them on and off.

MoominUnderWater · 31/05/2025 06:12

I think at 27yo the OP is probably too young for orthopedic shoes or Skechers 😁

Reallyyyyyy · 31/05/2025 09:47

@MoominUnderWater I'm 33 and a mum to 4... been wearing them for about 5 years... but ok!

WutheringTights · 31/05/2025 09:58

I like them. I don’t think they look like Nan shoes. I have some very similar. Disclaimer: I am a mum in my 40s and the youngsters in my office talked me into them a couple of years ago, because they knew I was going trainer shopping and didn’t want me to end up with a “mum” pair.😂

Thewayshetalks · 31/05/2025 10:29

I have the NB in while and blue and I’m 36, my PA who’s 21 loves them but she did tell me adidas are more “on trend” at the moment.

Yakacm · 31/05/2025 18:07

Err, no, they are hideous, keep looking.

Elle09 · 31/05/2025 20:17

I would recommend Adidas Spezials. They’re fashionable and come is some cool colour ways but they’re also super comfortable. The sole is moulded and I can run round after my two toddlers all day in them

DailyMaui · 31/05/2025 20:26

My two at uni have these - I will say that they don't appear to have lasted as long as previous trainers they have owned (Nike and Adidas).

I found my trainer holy grail over 30 years ago - Adidas Superstars - and I buy a new version every year. They are the only trainers I'll wear as they fit my feet perfectly, I can run around in them all day and I now have quite a collection: a pair for every outfit... although my slightly furry animal print ones are my favourite.

Find a trainer you love and fuck what anyone else thinks about them is my motto.

Flomingho · 31/05/2025 21:23

I like them my DD has a pair and also a couple of my work colleagues wear them. They all praise them for how comfortable they are

WombForTwo · 28/05/2025 10:24

I think if you're pregnant the Adidas ones will kill your feet, I love the look but find them too flat and narrow and not a comfy everyday shoe.
