I’m 27, and see my peers wearing things like this all the time, but I also feel like they’re not quite right 😂

@Smallsalt , they probably have the cushioning that running shoes in the early 2000s had.
I had something similar back then but they were for running not wearing as fashion shoes.

RitaAndFrank · 28/05/2025 13:35

I wear those New Balances in a lighter and slightly more delicate colourway - and I’m nearly 50 🤣. Go for it OP. They’re very comfy!

WombForTwo · 28/05/2025 11:35

Don’t sambas tend to run quite narrow? I have wide feet so need to be careful!

I have wide feet and found Sambas, Gazelles etc too narrow, however adidas Court shoes are nice and wide (I have the Court Bold as I'm short)

Chipsahoy · 28/05/2025 14:42

I think they are in fashion but honestly that’s what dads wore when I was a kid so I personally couldn’t wear them.

Chipsahoy · 28/05/2025 14:43

TaggieO · 28/05/2025 11:30

I think if you’ve lived or worked anywhere popular with America tourists they’ll make you cringe with horror but for everyone else they are very on trend Grin

Yea this! American here and these are a dad trainer there.

Epps · 28/05/2025 14:47

Have you had a look at the New Balance 327's? I adore them, so comfortable!

GildedRage · 28/05/2025 14:48

New Balance and Adidas both fit differently. NB tend to be wider than A.
The “function” of those two shoe styles are very different.

Spambridge · 28/05/2025 12:05

@SmokyWood , why the not for nans?

Because OP said she didnt want to look like she was wearing her nan's shoes. I'm sure there are lots of trendy nans but I think we all know what she means.

Spambridge · 28/05/2025 14:55

@SmokyWood , but they do look like nan's old running shoes, just a lot cleaner.

I'm old enough to remember when bright white new trainers were cringe.

ElixirOfLife · 28/05/2025 15:02

No sorry I don’t like them. They may be fashionable but I don’t think they’re stylish. As someone else said upthread - they’re like American tourist trainers. And not in a good way.

TaggieO · 28/05/2025 11:32

Adidas sambas are most definitely mum uniform but it’s not necessarily a bad thing. I have some Grin Not brown though, that’s dreadful. The point of those kinds of shoes is to inject a pop of colour.

Kids where we are are wall to wall 3 stripe adidas, Sambas, Gazelle etc.

Smallsalt · 28/05/2025 15:27

@Spambridge I am running in NB at the moment and Adidas Grand court as my fashion ones.
The NB ones in the OP I wouldnt wear for either, they look clumpy and fussy.

MoominUnderWater · 28/05/2025 15:30

Those trainers in that specific colour are in, I see them all over TikTok and lots of my students have them.

MoominUnderWater · 28/05/2025 15:31

I have the new balance 530s in pretty much that colour. Very comfortable 😁

abracadabra1980 · 28/05/2025 15:48

Bit chunky for me but I'm mid 50's. I also don't like the meshy look. New Balance do some nicer styles for middle age/older ladies.

iliketheradio · 28/05/2025 16:02

They're just average trainers. If you like them, buy them.

handsdownthebest · 28/05/2025 16:28

Yes that particular model is still pretty much worn out there. They are also super comfy.
DD is similar age to you but has them in a different colour. I think they will give you quite good support too .

Ihopeiwillsurvive · 28/05/2025 16:58

Trainers are comfortable.

But convincing women they actually look good is yet another con trick the fashion industry has played on women
.
Wearing trainers with skirts and, oh my goodness, summer dresses, looks horrible. But if the wearer is comfortable and is happy with the look then fair enough.

But let's not pretend it is aesthetically pleasing.

Spambridge · 28/05/2025 17:01

Trainers are comfortable. in general, yes. Some fashion trainers aren't.

But let's not pretend it is aesthetically pleasing. Hear, hear.

I do think they can look good! Not usually on me, but I think some people really pull it off!

I quite like them. I know nothing about fashion except what I've gleaned via osmosis and I was too old for the white trainers with a dress thing.

The Adidas ones you posted are dreadful.

Thankfully they’re out of stock in my size!! I don’t think I’m too bad at fashion, I tend to look okay, but I’m bad on shoes. I tend to keep the ones I have because I have wide feet and can never find comfy shoes, so when I do it’s a win!

Have a look at Vans gore-tex range. I got some second hand on very good nick and they are so, so comfy and look decent too. I'm 55 and don't care if in fashion or not, but my kids have said they're good and not embarrassing.

DeSoleil · 28/05/2025 17:39

If you’re doing a sport then yes, if you’re going shopping or just walking around then no.

What shoes do people wear? Genuinely? I’ve lived in either my running shoes or generic M&S flats for the last god knows how long, with a couple of seriously beaten up vans and adidas Vulcs for good measure (which they don’t make anymore!£
