I’m 27, and see my peers wearing things like this all the time, but I also feel like they’re not quite right 😂

I’m really second guessing them now!!

I think regardless of what anyone says if you [general you] have to ask on here for approval, then you [general you] don't love the item enough to buy it.

I do really like them, but I have awful taste in shoes 😂

But they are a safe choice then, as they have been worn as almost a uniform (at least here) for a year or two.

It’s what younger people wear.

As I've grown older, I've learned that there is a reason why "classic" styles that reappear with minimal changes and tweaks (or get rediscovered) year after year without being wildly fashionable or exactly unfashionable are, well, classic. And it is usually to do with an aesthetic cleanness of line and elegance. (To be sure, as a teenager in the 70's I did the eye roll when my grandmother said something along the lines of "a nice pair of court shoes can be worn anywhere.") I have survived hot pants, cropped tops, massive flares, shoulder pads a mile wide and appalling drop waisted dresses over the years without succumbing to any of them and I intend to outlast enormous sneakers with platforms too!

Edited

And I should have added to my post
”but just wear what you want”. Everyone should. It’s just clothes.

But those sneakers do not have ”enormous” platforms btw.

Maybethisallthereis · 29/05/2025 20:33

Nope I hate them… too clompy! Remind me of something my unfashionable 68 year old dad wears! However I do like these…

TheWelshposter · 29/05/2025 21:52

99% of the girls in my daughter's friend group have those New Balance. All aged thirteen. They are very popular

CareerChange24 · 29/05/2025 22:08

I have the new balance 9060 and always a size 5 in trainers and they are quite loose. But I got them on Black Friday and they had no smaller sizes. I love them. Really comfy and I go the gym in them more than my Hoka’s. I don’t own any but Loci look a really cool brand

GreenSalon2 · 29/05/2025 22:58

I’m 54 and have the NB trainers. I got them last year.I’m told I dress reasonably stylishly including by my teenagers. Aside from that they are the most comfortable trainers I own (and I have quite the collection) but do size up.

Finallyfree41 · 29/05/2025 23:47

I would have got beat up wearing those in the 90s haha. My daughter works in a sports wear shop and is 18, the newest ‘in style’ is Nike P-6000

Arsehooooole · 29/05/2025 23:51

I personally find them god awful.
I see all the chavs wearing them with their white Nike socks and leggings...
That's just me though....

well I’m 39 and I still wear new balance. They are so comfy and go with everything. I would get a different colourway though, as the white mesh gets SO dirty so quickly!

If you really wanna be ahead of the crowd, the best trainer now imo is the Salomon 👌🏽

LimeQuoter · 30/05/2025 00:24

You can't go too wrong with them. They're neutral colours and a decent brand. I say go for it 😁

vintagehope · 30/05/2025 09:37

Where I live it’s the Nike ZOOM VOMERO 5 that everyone is wearing now.

MoominUnderWater · 30/05/2025 09:54

I think these adidas are a slightly nicer colourway than the ones you linked to

Nike p6000 are popular too

I do own a pair of Salomons xt-6 which I see someone has mentioned but I'd actually say I think their moment has passed. I might be wrong.

Oh no!

WhySoSeriousSeriously · 30/05/2025 11:51

Definitely NOT.

These are ‘elderly male relative walking the dog’ shoes.

hellsbells99 · 30/05/2025 11:57

My DD (in her 20s) has the NB ones in white and silver - apparently very trendy. Whereas I am late 50s and sat here in my old black and white NBs 😂 I also have NBs for running in. They are so comfy

I love those adidas in red!!

I have gazelles in bright red. Also in bright green with pink stripes - always get lots of compliments when I wear them.

Don't get new balance 327s with the weird bobbly bit up the back if you want to be "in" - they are very past it/middle aged..

MoominUnderWater · 30/05/2025 12:43

vintagehope · 30/05/2025 10:02

Yeah I only wear mine for actual walking/hiking now

I think if you’ve lived or worked anywhere popular with America tourists they’ll make you cringe with horror but for everyone else they are very on trend Grin

I think this is interesting and possibly the source of my horror to skirts/dresses and trainer look, especially white ones.

I remember seeing American tourists in the 80s in London (also with their ‘fanny packs’) and it’s become traumatising ubiquitous for women in the UK for the last decade it seems (and looks just as horrendous).

It could look good if worn obviously ironically by the uber cool, like the equally horrendous croc.

Having said all that, New Balance are great trainers and fine for wearing in casual sports look if that’s what you want them for OP.

Catwoman8 · 30/05/2025 17:32

Almost everyone has these NB, although the younger ones now seem to be moving on to Adidas Gazelles and Sambas. I think those are nicer than the NB imo.

I bought these Nike AL8 ones that are really comfy. I think they have a similar vibe to the NB, but I don't think they look as ugly, I couldn't bring myself to buy the NB even though they are fashionable .
