I’m 27, and see my peers wearing things like this all the time, but I also feel like they’re not quite right 😂

I don’t know why you’ve latched onto this - in my mind it’s something uncomfortable, unsupportive, not practical. Like heels. That’s not my “mum shoe” aka something I wear while I’m being “mum”, it’s something I’d wear at work or dinner

I suppose it's cos it sounds weird/silly to me.

I'm not a mum. If I want trainers like that what do I say?

Whatever you want? I refer to myself how I want to and others can do the same.

They are getting a bit old now, like the Adidas ones. Worn by everyone. But if you like them just buy them. The brown beige ones I personally find quite ugly though.

These shoes are for three demographics only

  1. little girls
  2. old ladies
  3. supermodels

Where I am they have been worn for a very long time by people mainly from 15-45. It’s been like a safe uniform.

wearyourpinkglove · 29/05/2025 10:49

They are very popular and fashionable where I live. I think they are still ugly shoes despite this. But I suppose that's the whole point of them, young attractive models wearing ugly "dad" shoes ironically, and now they have become mainstream. Stick to what you like!

SadCarpetMess · 29/05/2025 11:04

They're one of those items where context is everything.
If you're a very stylish person, they'd look stylish.
I'm not. I'm old enough to be a granny and I'd look like a granny if I wore them. OTOH my podiatrist rates New Balance trainers very highly.

I thought I was stylish but now I’m not sure!

Where I live (SW London) these are everywhere - mainly worn by women in late 20s to mid 30s alongside "leisurewear". I think they work well with the right styling.

butterfly55 · 29/05/2025 13:10

I'm 55 and wouldn't be seen dead in these.

evilharpy · 29/05/2025 14:05

I'm nearly 45 and would wear them. I have some quite similar from Saucony in navy that I'm wearing today with acid wash jeans and an orange sweatshirt.

MoominUnderWater · 29/05/2025 14:38

Currently at the dentist. Two very glam looking women in their 20s both in new balance. They’re definitely on trend.

Not being funny but maybe you’re too old to know what’s current with women in their 20s and 30s???? The OP is 20 years younger than you so she’s maybe not fussed what people in their 50s think. I’m not meaning this in the way it probably comes across. I’m nearly 50 myself. I wouldn’t expect the OP to particularly care what I think (although I’m a trainer obsessive) 😁

My thoughts too.

It’s what younger people wear.

Nope. 17 y.o. swore by hers and they were all the rage for the 14-18 year olds last year. Trend passing. I'd swerve it.

Helen1625 · 29/05/2025 16:30

My 16yo has asked for a pair - 2 of her closest friends have them apparently. A work colleague (young 30ish) wears them too. I think they're very 'in' at the moment.

Yes, the trend is definitely passing. My dc’s have worn their for over a year and wom’t get new ones.

DepositSaverUpper · 29/05/2025 17:31

They always remind me of some ' gola' ones from a cheap shop.om the highstreet when I was younger. I had black and got bullied so bad .
I wish I could get over that and get some they look comfortable

ScarletBeret · 29/05/2025 17:55

Those adidas ones would play merry hell with my plantar fasciitis. I have similar ones and will be selling them.

I've never been any age when I've thought trainers weren't hideous. All ages wear them- none of them are nice.

WombForTwo · 29/05/2025 18:11

I’m really second guessing them now!!

Nooo, don’t! 😂 If they are comfortable and you like them then keep them! I’m not in the UK and it may well be that they were popular here earlier for some reason. They are still popular.
