Summer shoes to replace white trainers

What do people wear these days?? I always wear Superga white trainers or Van type slip on trainers but I'm not sure things are going to cut it this year. I don't like the clumpy strappy sandals. Any ideas?

@Nanny1965 but this is Style and Beauty. You could go onto the Gardening thread and say why waste your money on annual flowers, they’re only going to die.

I prefer colourful trainers rather than white. I work with a lot of students and this is what they tend to wear - their outfit is neutral but with red trainers for example. Gazelle type things.

Was going to suggest this. If I have a lot of pavement/stations walking to do when out for work I found my bright red adidas running shoes actually work very well with several outfits, and are soo comfy. in fact considering buying something similar just for work, so I don't have to wash the mud off my runners every time!

That's not the same analogy. It would be like going to Gardening and saying "I really like hyacinths. I've had them in my garden for years but now I've heard they are considered passé. What should I plant instead because it matters more to me what other people think about my garden than what I think looks nice"

These posts make me titter to myself. Honestly. Are we really concerned about what we wrap our feet or body in?

If you like it wear it.. no need to keep buying new stuff because everyone else is. I'd rather spend the money on something else tbh.

It's Style & Beauty where people who are interested in clothes chat.

Off the thread please! You are guilty of submitting irrelevant posts!! 😜.

I think you are extrapolating a bit the second half of your last sentence (maybe you got sidetracked by my appalling use of "accetable" which I really have covered already). I don't think anyone had said that. It's just nice to have a change if you've only been wearing one type of shoes for several years. A change is as good as a holiday!

But if you don't agree then no need to waste your time posting on this particular thread. 😊

I bought some silver sandals I thought would go very nicely with a short, plain fitted dress, they have just arrived and quite honestly are so sparkly you could see them from space. Someone could get blinded if the sun caught them, I don't know if I can wear this much bling at 63.

I did. It was my staple look. Very depressed now it's no longer acceptable.

Acceptable to whom??

I think that the white trainers still look fine, just not paired with a floral dress.

Yep same - wear with something plainer and looser, a denim dress, linen or if you love a print leopard print - M&S have some Ganni style dresses in at the moment.

Good for you. Spend your money on whatever you like, no one gives a shit. Likewise no one cares about those of us who are interested in fashion and like to have a change now and then!

EastCoastDweller · 02/04/2025 11:11

I’m the same. I can’t wear shoes that have lots of open space or where the backs or toes are open. I have to wear some sort of sock. I’m currently looking at the Hotter catalogue. They are comfortable and they have some very nice looking summer shoes. Many around the £50 mark.

Keep reading threads on style and beauty then. You will live every day in tittering hysteria! I suspect there are better ways to get your amusement but as the young people say, ‘you do you’----!

Fisherman's sandals are too jelly sandal memory-like for me. Plus I just don't get toes out at work (for boring reasons).

I class fisherman as toes in 😆

I see toes. I would also like to find something sandal-y without toes out.

OP I am really annoyed with this thread. I might have to buy these now. I know I could wear them all summer…

The Gazelles look good but are they supportive for the arch? They look a little flat and I have to avoid eg Converse for that reason. I do have these Nike ones which I love.

Go for it.

I have some gazelles on the way after reading this thread.

I love bright gazelles but does that mean I need a range of colours to go with all my outfits - I’m not someone who dresses in neutral colours?! 🤯

I think a bit of a clash is actually a good thing. Scroll down to "The wrong shoe theory" in the article: www.the-atlantic-pacific.com/2024/01/10/adidas-gazelle-outfit/

How many pairs of shoes have been bought as a result of this thread? Mine are arriving this afternoon 😆

YehThoughtSo · 02/04/2025 13:23

Menorcan sandals. They hide your toes. And they have that same kind of slightly hipster style. They're not the most comfortable thing in the world but they look really nice imo.

BirthdeighParteigh · 02/04/2025 13:26

I’ve swapped to nude / beige / tan trainers - neutrals.

Please can we see a photo? I do like a metallic shoe.

Jesus Christ, like there aren't 578 posts all saying the same totally unoriginal thing....

Terribletooths · 02/04/2025 13:46

Wait what? It’s not acceptable since when and by who?

i don’t care if it’s Middle Aged, but if you want to join the yooovs in their clonky balanciaga clogs go right on ahead. But they won’t look good.

Fluffyblackcat7 · 02/04/2025 14:21

I have recently been prescribed three-quarter orthotic insoles.

They work great in my trainers and walking shoes but can anyone suggest a sandal that they would work with?

I usually wear Teva and Birkenstocks but I will need a closed heel to keep the insole from sliding out the back.

TIA.

I agree that white trainers are getting a bit dated so I bought a pair of bright Liberty print Adidas instead. They look lovely in the box but I've not actually worn them yet. Every time I wear a dress I put them on but I don't actually like the way they look on my feet. They look a bit frumpy and orthopaedic compared to the freshness of my white trainers.

I'll keep going and hopefully I'll get accustomed to them. They were too expensive to waste.

These just arrived this morning and I'm still deciding how I feel about them
