Summer shoes to replace white trainers

What do people wear these days?? I always wear Superga white trainers or Van type slip on trainers but I'm not sure things are going to cut it this year. I don't like the clumpy strappy sandals. Any ideas?

I think that the white trainers still look fine, just not paired with a floral dress.

TamzinGrey · 01/04/2025 17:26

@Gundogdaythanks so much for this recommendation. I’ve just bought the floral ones and I can’t get over how comfortable they are - and really pretty too. Now I’ve ordered another pair from their website in a soft beige colour and can’t wait to receive them. I can see that I’ll be living in these all summer long 😊

I did. It was my staple look. Very depressed now it's no longer acceptable.

Why isn't it acceptable? My mum wears dress and trainers often and looks good, so do my daughters, I like sketchers sandals with dresses as I prefer comfort but it's still chilly.. wear what u like😁

@Ceramiq, those bags!!! How had I never heard of the E. Marinella brand? I think I would covert much of your wardrobe as everything you have recommended is absolutely lovely. Beautiful, high quality, but also unstated. I am off to do some on-line shopping.

Woofie7 · 01/04/2025 23:50

Look at the brand “Daniel”.
I buy mules from there . Enclosed toe open back . V v comfy . I like gold or silver to go with any colour summer dress. I also had this style for my wedding. No heel rubbing, great for foot swelling

I do have the nice silver Birkenstocks they are more acceptable than I thought

Sure but for example Gazelles were a 90s fashion and already had their revival well before summer 2025. If you want to be in fashion, set your own trends based on what you like not following the herd. That’s why a lot of us have said similar. Ironically you are more likely to be on trend in your white trainers than you ever were.

OP thanks for starting this thread. Very timely as I'm going trainer shopping in London tomorrow and have a better idea now of what I'm looking for. I was already heading for the Adidas store but Onitsuka Tiger is a new brand to me and I'll definitely be checking them out in Regents Street.

As for other summer shoes, I'm very limited sandals-wise due to bunions which aren't pretty awaiting dozens of posts telling me who cares; I should wear what I want despite my bunions so have tended to stick to espadrilles or Menorcan sandals so far.

I'm going to try the backless loafers though, and I used to love my clogs in student days .. does anyone have recommendations for where to find clogs in London? I can see Lotta in Stockholm is in Twickenham which isn't very central unfortunately.

Oh, and I should have said these are what I've been wearing for the last few summers. Not very helpful as you're looking for a change I know! I really like them but fancy something more colourful this year.

I'm looking for shoes as an alternative to trainers too. Does anyone know of any flats that have some support in them? I had plantar fasciitis a couple of years ago and I'd like to never ever experience that again.

Camper have some flats with ortholite soles which are extremely comfortable. Try and get to a store if you can to try on though as their sizing can be a bit variable as can the materials, softer or firmer.

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 02/04/2025 02:45

I agree that white trainers are getting a bit dated so I bought a pair of bright Liberty print Adidas instead. They look lovely in the box but I've not actually worn them yet. Every time I wear a dress I put them on but I don't actually like the way they look on my feet. They look a bit frumpy and orthopaedic compared to the freshness of my white trainers.

I'll keep going and hopefully I'll get accustomed to them. They were too expensive to waste.

OP I find mint velvet ballet flats more supportive than most.

PipFab · 02/04/2025 04:43

I have never bought John Lewis-brand shoes. But am quite liking the look of these now..

Not sure how I feel about the mesh ballet flats around at the moment..!

Thank you Bowies. Obviously I do know all this 😃. I think everyone does assuming we aren't 15.

Any suggestions as to types of interesting alternatives to white trainers you may have would be greatly appreciated however! 😊

How annoying! They are very cool though.

Agree, bright gazelles are the way to go if you can't have a sandal at work or whatever.

I love bright gazelles but does that mean I need a range of colours to go with all my outfits - I’m not someone who dresses in neutral colours?! 🤯

Yes this is what I’m going to struggle with. I don’t wear plain neutral clothes so the shoes will clash unless I buy 100 pairs

Nanny1965 · 02/04/2025 09:00

These posts make me titter to myself. Honestly. Are we really concerned about what we wrap our feet or body in?

If you like it wear it.. no need to keep buying new stuff because everyone else is. I'd rather spend the money on something else tbh.
