Summer shoes to replace white trainers

What do people wear these days?? I always wear Superga white trainers or Van type slip on trainers but I'm not sure things are going to cut it this year. I don't like the clumpy strappy sandals. Any ideas?

Hmmm, they're sitting in my basket! I found the red pair, but I never wear anything red so I'm not sure about them.

ForIcyAzureDreamer · 31/03/2025 13:14

Dress and DM boots for me...but then I don't give a shit what people think!

minnienono · 31/03/2025 13:21

Just wear the trainers. Nobody decides what you are allowed to wear

Whatimwearing · 31/03/2025 14:26

I have said this before under a different user name. My Dad was in textile marketing and in order to make people feel like they have to buy the latest shoe colour, style or whatever they need "people" to call your 1 year old shoes/trainers last season or unacceptable.

Wear what makes you happy. As seen on this thread some people love the fisherman sandals others do not. If you were truly following fashion you would wear the stuff you hate because it is the latest thing. My friend used to work for Top Shop and she had to choose her "uniform" from the shop floor. She sometimes felt like a clown. But she had to promote the clothing. Not great if everything is a low waist skinny jean and this makes you look terrible.

Dress your body in clothes that suit your body, wear shoes/trainers/sandals that you love and don't rip your feet to shreds. Be happy in yourself. One of the best videos ever is this one

I look out for new fashion and dress in what suits me. I would never wear things just because they are in fashion. I do think things get outdated. I think the denim jacket, flowery dress and white trainers are done to death. I've avoided wearing my denim jacket for a while. I will be getting it out to wear with different things this summer. I just think trying different looks is fun.

True and I don't think anyone on here is such a slave to fashion and unable to decide for themselves. I just think it's (personally) something quite interesting and enjoyable.

I think one thing is though the word used in the article, the look being "stale". I've definitely been wearing the same type of white trainers for a long time (as in years!) and it's rather nice to have a change. I just didnt know what to change to hence asking on here.

Also I did not know about Menorcan sandals and I really like those as well.

I'm looking for shoes as an alternative to trainers too. Does anyone know of any flats that have some support in them? I had plantar fasciitis a couple of years ago and I'd like to never ever experience that again.

Caterguin · 31/03/2025 20:15

I've gone for some of those shoes like the queen used to wear: square toe and heel. Perfect for staving off plantar f and more summery than my hamble brogues.

I did. It was my staple look. Very depressed now it's no longer acceptable.

Woah woah woah.... It is acceptable. What isn't acceptable is you valuing the opinions of other people more than your own. If it's your look, keep doing it! Fuck what anyone else thinks.

Thanks Dolly. Don't worry I can make my own decisions re footware 😊. A benefit of getting older I suppose.

I have tried a reverse-ferret on my controversial use of the word "acceptable" fairly early on in the thread, and also throughout, for people who haven't read the whole thread (and why should you have to anyway!). Just so people don't waste their time making the same redundant point.

Tell me some good summer shoes instead please!! 😃

Ha ha sorry. I am known for not reading the whole thread. I wouldn't ask me about footwear, I like crocs sliders and converse ballerina pumps so I'm properly down with the grannies and definitely not de riguer 🤣 this thread may enlighten me on current trends.
I have just bought some new bootcut jeans that I am really loving as bootcut are back in fashion apparently. Reminds me of my 90s/00s youth. I'll find a link. I spent a bit of money on some Levi's ones which I love as well but these ones are cheaper, comfier and wash really well(i.e don't need to be ironed..I'm a lazy bitch with washing as well as thread reading). I think I have inattentive ADHD but doesn't everyone. 😂

I had something like this a few years ago - the colour suited by blue-white legs and they looked lovely with capri pants and dresses. Mine had a moulded cushioned insole which made all the difference.

I also love the M&S loafers with the twist detail posted before a definite classic.

i find camper good for interesting sandals and flats - might be worth a look?

I just randomly read an article about trainers that will be in for 2025 and quite liked the Adidas Tokyo and the Nike Cortez that they suggested. Those 2 colours in the links are quite good as neutral but not white but I really like the brighter ones too especially these. I don't think it matters if there's a bit of a colour clash going on.

Oh no!

I don't think white trainers have had their day just yet! Ballet flats are great too... xx

@Ceramiq, thank you for introducing me to this brand. Three pairs of shoes might have just fallen into my shopping basket....

So glad you like Carel! I have lots of pairs (collected over several seasons).

Ruthietuthie · 01/04/2025 13:38

@Ceramiq, thank you! These are absolutely gorgeous too.... It's going to be a rather expensive shopping day. I've been searching everywhere for classic but stylish shoes that are of high quality, and these two brands are PERFECTION. You have EXCELLENT taste.

loropianalover · 01/04/2025 13:39

WHY do people come onto style & beauty giving it the big un about ‘are you a slave to fashion!!!!’ and ‘wear what you love, that will always be in style! Xxx’ we’re spenders over here!! We want NEW, on trend things 🤣🤣 why do people act so agog about it.

I recently bought 2 pairs of JW Anderson chain mules. Might not be your exact taste OP, but might appeal to someone else reading the thread. I also have a pair of leather Gucci mules. All lovely shoes but I do admit they are not really suitable for public transport or hurried walking/rushing!

Those M&S ballet trainers posted by @Punsandroses look interesting, I’m going to see if my local has any in stock!! Don’t know if they’d make my arches happy but….. I’m a slave to fashion 🤣
