Summer shoes to replace white trainers

Thoughtsonstuff · 28/03/2025 18:54

What do people wear these days?? I always wear Superga white trainers or Van type slip on trainers but I'm not sure things are going to cut it this year. I don't like the clumpy strappy sandals. Any ideas?

Birkenstocks (and similar brands) do clog type things as well as sandals. The word clog gives me the shivers, but they’re actually really comfortable, and (I think) look okay with dresses. I live in them in the summer. Bought a pair of fisherman’s sandals one year but had to force myself to wear them… Ended up giving them to charity.

MoggetsCollar · 30/03/2025 11:47

I've got a pair of black HeyDudes for work and they are so comfy I'm going to get a pale coloured pair for summer. However, I give no fuks about what anybody thinks about what I'm wearing, so I have no idea if they would 'cut it'.

MoggetsCollar · 30/03/2025 11:54

Can't believe I spelled fucks wrong.

CappuccinoChocolate · 30/03/2025 12:07

Menorcan sandals are have slightly more toe coverage than your average sandal. I like Sollilas.

To anyone who owns Saltwater sandals…are they comfortable and are the actually 100% waterproof? I like to walk the dog on the beach and would love to go for a paddle with him without worrying about my footwear!

Ha! I’ve just bought a brand new pair of white Supergas…I think they look great with dresses, jeans, very fresh.

My favourite and most comfortable sandals are my fuschia Hotter Tourists. Like walking on air.
They're on their last legs now and the current colour options from Hotter aren’t brilliant but I may choose a gold pair.

I also wear the the Saltwater with the comfort sole...they are brilliant in the water...I live near the sea. They recommend moulding them to your feet first time wear by putting in water. You can wash them up...the leather is amazing looks like new years later.

What do you mean by "knitted"? Any examples of brands? I like the sound of not having to do up laces. That's another step in the getting-up itinerary which it's always good to try and avoid.

This sort of thing, but they have laces in. Of the 3 pairs I have the Primark are the most comfy www.next.co.uk/style/su507093/am0224?gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADm_5UW9_OUxarzDBNFCzx0L4H_gA&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3ZKM-NyxjAMVM49QBh2w9hJJEAQYGSABEgI9TvD_BwE#AM0224

Wear white trainers with a dress if you like it, very few people would judge, and those who do are not worth concerning yourself with.

An alternative I use when I need to be a bit smarter is these shoes: https://www.marksandspencer.com/leather-bow-slip-on-flatform-loafers/p/clp60715994?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share

Super comfy, fairly smart. They might look a bit boatish if you have large feet (I'm a 5.5 but with skinny ankles (which sometimes makes shoes more boatish) and they're OK on me)

Are the 18 other people looking at these mnetters? Own up!

BurntBroccoli · 30/03/2025 12:51

What about gold or bronze trainers or another bright colour?

HauntedHen · 30/03/2025 12:51

This is the Style & Beauty board. Presumably the OP has asked the question here because they are interested in what is currently considered stylish/in fashion.

Why are so many posters asking why it matters or why does the OP care what others think? It’s Style & Beauty. That’s the whole point.

GreyAreas · 30/03/2025 13:15

I think your white trainers will look fresher than most options...off to look at gazelles

TheFairyCaravan · 30/03/2025 14:02

I’ve got some pastel coloured Gazelles and my Veja’s that I will wear with dresses and skirts. DH has just bought me some Liberty London Sambas that I plan to wear with any skirts and dresses etc that I own that are plain. They won’t be for everyone but I love them.

When it’s really warm I’ve got Saltwater sandals and some Menorcan sandals for everyday.

Ruthietuthie · 30/03/2025 14:14

I just ordered these. I wanted something that was somewhere between a trainer and a shoe, entirely unbranded, light-weight (and light on the eye, so as to not drag down summer outfits). I love them.

When I am not wearing these, I am wearing these: https://www.anoncph.com/products/sophie-20-crackled-metallic-goat-champagne
I find champagne a really good neutral. And the low front lengthens the leg.

If I want something tan, to match with a bag or with blue denim, I just got these:

And for another option, I just bought these. they look really elegant on and are extremely comfortable:

Coloured gazelles might be the way forward for me actually. Thank you.

Appreciate the comments about wearing what you like and obviously I do as I am not a teenage girl, but I also am interested in trying to follow fashion even a tiny bit. Or at least do something more interesting. I do already have birks and clogs etc galore but occasionally do want to wear something else and they aren't ideal in all scenarios.

I’m the exact same as you, though i have just purchased another pair of white adidas, albeit with silver stripes, though i’ve also gone for bright coloured trainers, a pair of light green gazelles and a bright pink pair of campus, the campus are the comfiest trainers i have ever had as they are slightly platformed, gazelles not so much lol as they are very flat, and narrow, though i do have broad feet, will still wear them lots, just not when out for ages and lots of walking planned. Other than trainers, last couple of years i’ve oped for flat-form sandals or wedges.

Lifestooshort71 · 30/03/2025 16:06

I found others described as 'sock trainers'

If you didn't want to wear sandals eg you were flying somewhere? Or going somewhere where you didn't want to get your toes out. Ive always loved the white trainers look with a dress or something but apparently that's too middle aged now (which I am). I just can't think of an alternative.

Just carry on wearing what you love, there have always been lots of people (like me) who thought it looks terrible, but life is too short to care that much what people think or have to be a sheep? It will go off the curve to be fashionable one day (and I still don’t wear them).

This is where I get confused. Trainers are middle aged but I was out on Friday and all the young people were wearing trainers!

Thank you but I'm just looking for ideas and don't want to waste your time posting something that has already been said a fair bit already and I hope I have dealt with upthread!! 😊

Some great ideas re shoes from people which have been very helpful.

As soon as I can, I get into my wonderfully comfortable Menorcan sandals. I have them in a range of colours. The proper ones with the heavy duty soles are the best. They always look nice, and they cover your toes.

That may well be the correct term

CertainUncertain · 30/03/2025 17:02

I think this depends a little on if you're chasing toddlers around or dressing for work or going out. I was just in Paris for work - the weather was exceptionally nice, and I noticed about a million versions of these - quite a few with a kitten heel.

I have a pair of knitted slip on trainers that I wear when I travel. They're extremely comfortable, and come in a variety of colours (I have black), but I've never tried them with a dress

I have 4 pairs of hey dudes and live in them all spring/summer. Maybe they aren’t particularly cool but I think they are kind of funky!
