Summer shoes to replace white trainers

What do people wear these days?? I always wear Superga white trainers or Van type slip on trainers but I'm not sure things are going to cut it this year. I don't like the clumpy strappy sandals. Any ideas?

I love a pointed flat shoe, birkenstocks, other styles of trainers - just not white pumps, but did also love a dress and white trainer outfit.

If you didn't want to wear sandals eg you were flying somewhere? Or going somewhere where you didn't want to get your toes out. Ive always loved the white trainers look with a dress or something but apparently that's too middle aged now (which I am). I just can't think of an alternative.

If that's what you like to wear then wear it, life's too short to be uncomfortable or worrying about if something is fashionable or not

TheChosenTwo · 29/03/2025 18:46

Not really what you’re looking for but I wear really brightly coloured trainers because they’re so cheerful and I love them!
I have a hate/hate relationship with sandals, I hate feet and don’t want to see anyone else’s either so tend to keep mine covered (unless on a beach and then it’s flip flops). I bought some Birkenstocks a couple of years ago for holiday. I found them comfortable (the double strap ones, don’t know what they’re called) but just so ugly and haven’t worn them since.
Fishermen sandals just look like what the BFG wears, it’s a solid no way for me.

I wear wedge espadrilles in work in the summer. Not allowed trainers of any sort.
Ballet shoes destroy my ankles and kick my plantar f off.
I've been wearing trainers with dresses since 1996! But ifound the modern switch to tidy, neat trainers weird to start with.

Irismarle · 29/03/2025 18:54

Espadrilles with a low heel in a neutral colour are nice and comfortable and usually have enclosed toes. I have had a pair from Penelope Chilvers for many years.

Takemymindoff · 29/03/2025 19:06

Wedge espadriles, or a loafer.

Something like these…

Steadfastly avoided the whole white trainer thing mostly because I prefer white Converse high tops and buy a new pair each year. Also a huge fan of Hereu closed toe sandals too. I also love a sock and sandal combo, particularly with Tevas and Suicokes. Have quite a collection.

Loathe deck shoes, espadrilles, loafer, and probably numerous others 'summer shoes.' Previously, I loved wearing flat pumps, a bit like ballerinas but without the bow detail. It's been a few years since I wore shoes like this mostly because they don't feel modern to me.

Funnily enough, have been ruminating on buying a v. brightly pair of trainers for the past month or so, and purchased a pair earlier today Pink and red were not a consideration. In fact, it seemed like every other woman I saw today was wearing these colours on their feet. Indeed, I even spotted a group of four women, all in pink, red, or pink & red trainers.

I came on to say colourful trainers- I have some blue gazelles that look good with most things.

I’m also a big fan of Toms in the summer and have tjwm
in a few colours- grey ones are my favourite. I don’t think they are particularly ‘in’ or ‘out’ , I just like them. https://www.toms.com/en-gb/products/alpargata-women-grey-heritage-canvas

I quite like Toms too but haven't worn them for years. In the summer I like to either wear sandals or trainers with socks. I can't do shoes with no socks as I feel sweaty of foot.

For trainers I wear Vans hi tops (all year round).

lechatnoir · 29/03/2025 19:33

Pointed flats - as soon as the weather turns I ditch my boots for more delicate flats. I’ve got loads and once I find a pair that’s comfortable without socks will buy the same one in different colours. I bought the red ones from Tu on the advice here which I love and these from M& S silver m& s. and a black leather studded ones from Mint velvet

Countingmysiblings · 29/03/2025 20:19

I’ve got https://www.salt-watersandals.co.uk/products/original-navy-womens-sandal?currency=GBP&variant=47102519148848&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&stkn=ea79a0212106&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADjXxEuxCLUwPQdPSp7JX0GSiEKp3&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIi_ex0IuwjAMVIZVQBh2xIjd5EAQYASABEgLXofD_BwE]] that I’m planning on wearing instead of white trainers.

I’m keen to get a pair of these https://madeinparadis.co.uk/106623-20-women-s-lace-up-trainers-victoria-1915-anglaise-toile-lavee-white madeinparadis.co.uk/106623-20-women-s-lace-up-trainers-victoria-1915-anglaise-toile-lavee-white]]]] to wear with dresses and shorts.

Aside from this I’ve a few pairs of Zara slidets flats in different colours. Cheap as chips and really nice. I usually buy a pair a year.

Overhaul54 · 29/03/2025 20:53

Backless clogs are lovely but looks shite if you have the vaguest hint of cankle. Many things look like slippers with my flat feet and fat ankles.

I wear anything with a chunky sole my fave being a gold leather vans type shoe or Hidi Hope from Clarks. Go with anything .

Melancholyflower · 29/03/2025 21:04

Another one saying colourful trainers, though I think I would still probably wear white Sambas in the summer.

Iwanttenofthose · 29/03/2025 21:35

I switch from trainers to Toms in spring/summer but I am quite casual and appreciate it's not to everyone's style

Gettingbysomehow · 29/03/2025 21:36

I have nice feet so I wear thong sandals with a strap round the back so they stay on when I'm walking.

Microwaveexpert · 29/03/2025 22:08

Capricornandproud · 29/03/2025 15:51

Great suggestion there for colourful gazelles! Some of them are lush but, noticeably, a white pair that go with everything are absent. However I’m investing in taupe and black ones which should go with a lot.

on a practical level for hot days, crocs sandals are an absolute must. I have these in 4 colours as I have really problem wide (wide, bones misaligned, raynauds and fallen arches).

Crocs Women's Getaway Strappy... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C53TXM48?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I like these croc sandals and I usually live in trainers.
So they're fine for wider feet?

MoreChocPls · 29/03/2025 22:50

Are fit flops out of fashion now?

yetanotherusername44 · 29/03/2025 23:30

I bought something similar to the Hush ones but had to return them as they were really wide, and felt like wearing flippers. Are these also very wide/clompy?
