Is it too early to talk about summer dresses?

Over the past couple of years I’ve bought a couple of gorgeous summer dresses that were shared on here.

I thought I’d start a thread to see what everyone is buying this year? I’ve looked around and not seen anything I really like yet. Maybe it’s too early. I’ve lost weight so I might go for shorter, fitted dresses rather than floaty ones to cover up my weight.

It’s been really sunny here (where I am in the SE) but it’s still been flipping cold with a bitter wind.
No summer dresses in sight for me, I’m still wearing full thermals under my normal winter clothes and I was glad of them today, was bloody freezing 🥶

I'm looking for recommendations for a casual maxi dress. I would like sleeveless but not strappy. I don't suit orange or yellow or autumnal colours. Blues and greens are my go to colours.

@RachelleHulme, I LOVE your outfit photographs. You've given me some inspiration as I am a similar build.

Well the sun is shining today and it could get up to 21 degrees definitely time for a summer dress today!

16 degrees forecast here, so not summer dress weather yet. It goes downhill tomorrow.

Gettingbysomehow · 20/03/2025 09:41

I cannot bear trainers with lovely summer dresses. I think they look awful.
I'm looking for a lovely smart and chic summer dress with half or quarter length sleeves that doesn't consist of yards of fabric.
Something suitable for work meetings.
Not linen. Anything linen looks like a creased rag in minutes.

High of 14c today with cold Easterly wind so sticking with warm clothes

BlackEyedFrozenPeas · 20/03/2025 10:03

How old are you Rashelle? Don’t answer if you don’t want to. I’m just interested. You are stunning. Gorgeous and really stylish. You don’t often see someone who is so put together. You are inspiring me.

I’m not stalking you honest.

You go girl.

I'll just say I'm no longer in my thirties. These are mostly my office outfits. Thanks chick 😊😊😊

I think Vinted is going to be my friend this year - we don't get too much of a summer and many people only seem to wear an item once or twice. People seem to upload more at end of the month - pay day. There's always a bargain or two!

BlackEyedFrozenPeas · 20/03/2025 10:29

Wow, you are ageing really well. I thought you were in your 20’s 😀

I have three new summer dresses still with tags on I didn't wear last summer. Wales was a cold wet washout 😢

I was in an abusive relationship with a well off man for ten years so never had kids of my own. He wouldn't let me work so I did have a lot of time to take care of myself. Yoga, pilates, treatments, the lot. He required me to be slim and presentable at all times for his business functions. A loveless relationship just a veneer. I refused to have surgery. That was the beginning of the end.

BlackEyedFrozenPeas · 20/03/2025 11:08

I’m sorry to hear that. I hope you’ve found happiness now? X

I left him four years ago when my sister developed sudden acute myeloid leukemia and me going to addenbrookes for a week to donate stem cells to save her life didn't fit in with his business trip to Milan. I had to make a choice then. Now I'm happy I'm with a woman I love and she loves me. She repaired my damaged soul. Probably TMI for here but my sister is in full remission now so it was all worthwhile. It was an extremely nasty breakup and I was a complete mess. Fuck how did I get onto my life story in a thread about dresses, someone shut me up. X

Ruthietuthie · 20/03/2025 12:44

@RachelleHulme, yes it is a thread about dresses, but I too am glad to read your story. It's a story of bravery and real love in the end. And with great outfits.

BlackEyedFrozenPeas · 20/03/2025 12:48

Rachelle,

Actually it is exactly what this board is about. Behind every dress, every thread about style and beauty, there is a woman with her own story, who is looking to help herself. It’s a reach out for self care. It’s all intertwined.

Strong advice AGAINST straw, rattan, etc bags unless your clothes are short-life only! All those lovely, textural, exposed fibres are going to rub against whatever you're wearing.

If you really want a straw bag, I'd advise getting a coated one. Otherwise, look for woven bags of leather, fake leather, recycled plastics or fabrics.
