Is it too early to talk about summer dresses?

Over the past couple of years I’ve bought a couple of gorgeous summer dresses that were shared on here.

I thought I’d start a thread to see what everyone is buying this year? I’ve looked around and not seen anything I really like yet. Maybe it’s too early. I’ve lost weight so I might go for shorter, fitted dresses rather than floaty ones to cover up my weight.

I'm looking to buy maxi dresses. Like the hippy/boho look in a plus size. Struggling every year 😞

There are bargains galore at Nomads - I like this one reduced from £85 to £21:

Love that but out of stock in my size 😭

I'm supposed to be on low buy this year. However, the sun at the weekend inspired me to order this linen sleeveless short shirt dress in the sale from last year's stock: www.wraplondon.co.uk/fashion-ZR86/colour-b-forest/sleeveless-linen-dress.htm in both forest and rose as I couldn't decide on a colour.

I've lost weight too and feel more like wearing a dress that shows off my figure instead of hiding it. I've ordered both colours in 8 and 10 to try. Hoping they are not too long on me at 5'3.

I'm also thinking about how hot it was in our home office WFH last summer and the only things that kept me really cool were a long linen sleeveless dress I got from Celtic & Co and some loose fitting Brora linen cargo pants, so I literally lived in them last summer.

I don't need dressing up type dresses as I rarely do dressing up type things, so these looked nice and simple and practical. And when I do go to the office it is very casual so I would feel overdressed in anything dressier than this kind of style.

I've just ordered this dress from M&S.
It's in a pure cotton seersucker & the shape looks really good for me. Plus it comes in a petite as a bonus.I live in cotton/linen shirt dresses in warm weather & M&S often do particularly good ones.

Not too early, just hope we get the weather for them!!

@Netcam love that linen dress. I am a similar height, let us know how it fits for you?

I also ordered this dress but in a red/orange over winter (on sale) not worn it yet but it's super flattering when i tried it on. Tempted to get it in black too actually!

Ooh that's gorgeous 😍

I'm looking for one dress . A nice going out dress, chic rash than dressy. I'm finding the right shape but it only comes in white, black or sludge green. If it's the right shape and colour it's effing expensive.

This is such a strange pose the model is doing, I wonder what the brief was?!

I really need some work dresses. Knee length or above, not holiday/beach fabric or loud patterns. No puffy sleeves as will need to put something over the top when the AC inevitably gets too cold. Not tight around the waist, and not a wrap dress. I really struggle as I don’t want to look too casual, but also don’t want the more corporate Jaegar-type look, still want to look relatively fashionable.

I'm struggling with this too - they all seem mid or maxi or midaxi dresses - I would like some knee length, bit above the knee for sure.

I was just thinking about summer dresses this weekend as we booked our August holiday yesterday so I’ve been looking through what I already have and assessing gaps.
My favourite from last year was a one shoulder side split midi which has a peekaboo gap on the waist - very flattering. So would like to find one similar in a warm red or deep dusty rose maybe - my current one is a deep dusty blue and almost looks like a denim chambray. It’s gorgeous.

I would love to know where you got this dress from if possible, as I've been looking everywhere for a similar style to the one you describe in blue! Shops are doing them but often in black or lime green which just don't suit me!

mrschocolatte · 10/03/2025 14:50

I saw this on Sezane this morning and I can’t stop thinking about it. It just looks like so much fun!

I think the brief is to show some movement?
M&S is particularly bad at this at the moment. Just give me a bloody front view of how the item hangs - but no!
Every which way apart from a front view.

I’m currently wearing the Kiki Meadow dress in a very roomy 2xl. I’m size 22/24. Also has 3xl.

Paperthin · 10/03/2025 15:44

I love this thread and it’s also good to see new websites and brands I’ve not looked at before.

BebbanburgIsMine · 10/03/2025 16:00

I'll be wearing my floral midi or midaxi floral dresses with trainers again. I have never worn trainers before, but I love them with nice dresses.

I don't care if anyone thinks the look is dated, I've always worn tiered maxi skirts and tops, I'm not a jeans or trousers person, nor do I own anything shirts.

I've always worn what I feel comfortable in, everyone should.

Will do

TheChosenTwo · 10/03/2025 21:10

@BebbanburgIsMine i wear trainers with dresses all the time - not white ones but brightly coloured for sure. I wear quite plain clothes so bright trainers cheer up the whole look.

It's going back. Even the 8 looked a bit too big and baggy for my small frame.

Netcam · 10/03/2025 22:45

Since the linen dresses I ordered are going back, decided to try this one I've been eyeing up instead: www.boden.com/products/anya-sleeveless-linen-dress-chestnut-abstract-dot?_pos=1&_sid=e3f575bf2&_ss=r. Ordered 8 and 10 petite to try, maybe it won't drown me as much.

I've just been admiring the Warehouse dresses on the Tu website - very floaty, drapey, 1970s style. They probably have even more on their own site: I didn't look because Total Ban (I'm already resenting myself for making this rule!!)

GarlicStyle · 11/03/2025 02:21

Oh, sorry, @AreYouTheFarmer2025. I just checked back, and Warehouse stops at size 16 😞

Its way too early! Three sunny days last week and over the weekend and everyone thinks they can buy summer dresses. This week its going to be freezing so will keep wearing my winter outfits.

I am also looking for work dresses just above the knee! Had a look on Next but there is nothing i really like. Bought some a few weeks ago but sent them all back. Also need advice on hoodies/jumpers and skirts?
