Is it too early to talk about summer dresses?

Over the past couple of years I’ve bought a couple of gorgeous summer dresses that were shared on here.

I thought I’d start a thread to see what everyone is buying this year? I’ve looked around and not seen anything I really like yet. Maybe it’s too early. I’ve lost weight so I might go for shorter, fitted dresses rather than floaty ones to cover up my weight.

I really like that one @Peaceandquietandacuppa looks like a good everyday dress. Also like an easy dress like the one on your photo at @angelspikeboth look like easy great throw on dresses.

Although I also need a couple of smarter dresses this year for a wedding, graduation and a summer birthday party.

Also wondering about nice but comfortable footwear as I am tall so don’t need extra height but do need comfort.

I love that Zara dress, it’s miles from us but I’m planning on a trip as I’ve been eyeing it up for a while

I must confess to having bought this today! It is flattering and very comfortable. Never had a red dress before!

I also literally yanked this off the rail when I saw it. Not my usual style at all but it's such a beautiful tomato red - going to wear it to the pub today with a suede jacket and Birkenstock bostons

I am size 18 / 20 and dresses make me feel better about myself.
I like the tea dress style but struggling to find many that are not polyester.

Is viscose as hot as polyester?

Any one have any go to brands to help me please?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/03/2025 08:28

I’m trying not to buy much at all this year. I’ve got lots of dresses and am trying to make my own, rather than buy where possible.

Having said that, it’s often as cheap to buy as it is to pay for good quality fabric.

There are two things that I am on the look out for though - a black cotton sleeveless tank style midi dress and a white really light cotton midi dress. The former would be super useful with a linen shirt or denim jacket over and the latter for my trip to Greece in the summer.

I love that strappy black Marks one posted on here, but I’m too busty for it.

JMAngel1 · 09/03/2025 08:29

I was just thinking about summer dresses this weekend as we booked our August holiday yesterday so I’ve been looking through what I already have and assessing gaps.
My favourite from last year was a one shoulder side split midi which has a peekaboo gap on the waist - very flattering. So would like to find one similar in a warm red or deep dusty rose maybe - my current one is a deep dusty blue and almost looks like a denim chambray. It’s gorgeous.

Viscose is more breathable than polyester. Ime though it shrinks more than cotton so you have to be careful when washing. Some cheaper viscose dresses are nearly impossible to iron well.

I had that in black from a couple is seasons ago, it's such a flattering shape. I didn't know there were other colours.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie have a look at Uniqlo's Airism sleeveless midi dress. I love mine.

Why am I on this thread lol. I have enough summer dresses so it’ll have to be a one in one out policy. Looking forward to wearing my Kemi Telford summer dresses with a smattering of Toast light cord smock dresses.

Thank you. I hate their website so much, but will be visiting Manchester soon so can have a look in store.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/03/2025 09:30

Just looked online and it’s lovely but I’m after a column shape, basically like a long vest!

M&s have a black cotton one like this. Might be sleeveless rather than T-shirt though.

I am not giving up my floral maxi dresses. I love Anthropologie Somerset, insanely flattering. But I don't love the price, so got some dupes from here.
Quality is not quite the same, of course, but not bad for the price.

I often see Somerset dresses on eBay (it's a great shape for me) so worth checking out?

I have this gorgeous Jasper Conran dress in blue, absolute bargain in the sale.
Trying not to buy any more until I've lost some weight!

Nitgel · 09/03/2025 10:30

Remus uniqlo have lots of column type dresses

Really hoping next do this style again
It looks simple but is so flattering and it's a soft t shirt type material that didn't need ironing

I've got this in black and agree, it's so easy to wear and really flattering.

I'm not a fan of their website either. I make the occasional trip across the Pennines to visit their store.

Edited

Ooh I have a denim one in that style that I love but it is very wintery, that might just be a perfect summer version! Thanks.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie
I’ve had one like this for years that is an absolute staple of my summer wear.

Yes, that’s the one I saw online.
