What have they done to Elvive?!

I've used Elvive Colour Protect shampoo and conditioner for years and they're just right for my hair as well as being inexpensive. It's been harder to come by lately but now back in stock with different packaging. I've used the conditioner twice now and was expecting it to be the same (haven't noticed "new formula" etc on the labelling) but it smells different and has left my hair looking heavy and greasy both times. It feels like there's a silicon film in my hair and it looks awful. It's so annoying. Has anyone else found the same? I'm kind of hoping I've just got a duff bottle.

I was looking at my new packaging - there’s nothing to say there’s been a formula change.

Mine says it in little writing above Colour Protect

What have they done to Elvive?!
Shelleyp32 · 01/06/2025 08:39

Hi, same here, it is awful..they have changed it from colour protect to colour shielding.. the conditioner left my hair heavy and greasy and I have had to buy some of the old stuff off ebay for a fortune, used it for years and jave complained to loreal who choose to ignore..I knew I wasn't the only one...

Userfriendly20 · 01/06/2025 11:11

I’m so glad someone has posted this - myself and my mum have used this for over 15 years and I thought I was imagining things. My hair was like straw by half way through the day. And the smell isn’t nice anymore - it’s like cheap perfume your granny would wear.

Im so disappointed as this was the best shampoo and conditioner out there.

Who can I complain to?

Gundogday · 01/06/2025 12:15

Even my Dh commented how my hair ‘needed washing’ which he never used to do.

Give us the ‘old and unimproved’ version back, and reintroduce the clay one !

JenniferBooth · 01/06/2025 14:13

Ive got a travel size version of the old formula in an old Soap and Glory case i use for overnights away. Its treasure trove now

LogicalBlodge · 01/06/2025 14:36

I've stopped using Dream Lengths and now get coconut ones that doent have Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, and use an anti frizz blow dry cream instead.
Hask, Oxy do nice shampoos.

smallsilvercloud · 01/06/2025 14:45

Lidl to their own version of this, even the packaging and scent smells similar, it’s quite good although I find most shampoos just don’t clean my hair well anymore always get a greasy claggy feeling , I use Matrix which feels clean and light.

Has the Dream lengths also changed formula? I used to use that every so often for a change, and I liked the smell of it. That was only launched in 2020 (approx).

No it hasn't AFAIK. Just a comment on the fact that it's quite heavy already.

Just finished the small Elvive Colour shampoo and conditioner, binned the Extraordinary Oil and am going back to Herbal Essences Colour protect which I prefer.

Is that the Herbal Essences Ignite My Colour.

@JenniferBooth Yes, it’s in the pink bottle. I also like the Herbal Essences Argan Oil and Coconut shampoos and conditioners.

I quite like it.

I used the purple one and it was so bad my hair looked like it was wet it was so greasy, I had to bin it!

I’ve just bought a bottle of the purple one and used it for the first time yesterday, hair looks ok. Not sure if I have an old batch or a new formula. My hairdresser told me to stop using tresemme, said it’s awful stuff.

edited, it’s the hydralonic one in the purple bottle I’m using. Not the purple shampoo in the dark purple bottle.

YesHonestly · 05/06/2025 07:58

For another wanting to try the Tigi BedHead Range is always on offer in my local Tk Maxx so might be worth trying there? They have a website too if there isn’t one nearby. I think B&M also stock it sometimes.

I use Pantene clean and clear shampoo now and my hair feels really clean and light.

doneandone · 05/06/2025 08:01

Yep I had the same problem. I bought the shampoo and conditioner for dry hair but it left a layer on my hair that felt awful. Took a couple of washes with a different brand to get it out. Bought the huge bottles too. Definitely won't be buying again.

Exactly the same experience.

sc00by61 · 07/06/2025 10:33

I've had the exact same experience with the new L'Oréal colour protect conditioner. I have also emailed L'Oréal about it...

sc00by61 · 07/06/2025 11:15

Can anyone recommend a good alternative to L'Oréal colour protect conditioner please?? I an disgusted with the new colour protect conditioner never using it again after using it for countless years. I used to love L'Oréal hair products but now it seems that they have changed the formula of a lot of them even their semi permanent colour that I also used for years left my hair in a really bad condition. Never again L'Oréal!!

Ive got quite thick hair and it feels terrible when its greasy so will skip it Thanks
If someone could invent a shampoo that cleans thoroughly without stripping colour they would in the £££££££
Speaking of caramel i have Lee Staffords new hair mist in Caramel Brulee

MemphisJunebug · 09/06/2025 13:41

The new formula smells terrible and is damaging my hair. I just want the original product.

sc00by61 · 10/06/2025 08:26

I recommend emailing Loreal. The more emails they get about the changes to their products and unhappy customers the better and maybe they will do something.
I have sent them several emails with photos of customer complaints.

sc00by61 · 10/06/2025 08:29

I don't like anything about the new L'Oreal conditioner even the smell I find awful.

JenniferBooth · 10/06/2025 20:31

It makes me sneeze
