What have they done to Elvive?!

I've used Elvive Colour Protect shampoo and conditioner for years and they're just right for my hair as well as being inexpensive. It's been harder to come by lately but now back in stock with different packaging. I've used the conditioner twice now and was expecting it to be the same (haven't noticed "new formula" etc on the labelling) but it smells different and has left my hair looking heavy and greasy both times. It feels like there's a silicon film in my hair and it looks awful. It's so annoying. Has anyone else found the same? I'm kind of hoping I've just got a duff bottle.

Not only they destroyed Elvive but they also changed Kerastase, L'oreal owns them as well. Chroma line used to be really great, the new (or not so new anymore, it's a couple of years old now) formula is just rubbish.

Did a bunch of research after it became clear there was brand fuckery afoot! TRESemme Shampoo revitalise colour and the matching conditioner seems a reasonable sub atm…. I’ve got it in my shower now.

CraftyNavySeal · 10/06/2025 21:32

I’ve given up buying any of them they always change them. The replaced the oily hair pink and green one with the clay one which I liked then they bloody changed it again.

My hairdresser says tresemme is awful, I’ve just stopped using it after she to,d me not to.

I thought this was just me! I use the oil one in a brown bottle and my hair has suddenly become very greasy. Will have to find something new

recommendations for making peri hair look sleek and not dry and fly away (and also not greasy) welcome

I use the Aldi version oil shampoo conditioner in a brown bottle and it’s still fine.

My hairdresser told me not to use Tresseme Aussie or Pantene

wizzler · 10/06/2025 23:39

I’ve found exactly the same. At least you’ve all convinced me I’m not losing the plot!

Thought it was just me though i just use the shampoo not the conditioner. My hairdresser recommended that i use this instead

This has made my hair feel like its been washed in chip fat.

I've found the pink Herbal Essences to be a good substitute, it's called Ignite My Colour. About the same price as Elvive and smells amazing.

Edit - I see it's already been posted above so I'm seconding it!

I found two of the old colour protect bottles right in the back of the shelves in Morrisons yesterday. It was so nice to wash my hair with the original stuff for the first time in weeks.

My hair feels great again. Shame it won’t last.

Gundogday · 06/07/2025 08:52

I did a bit of research into shampoos and ‘Monday’ shampoo got mentioned alot, a brand I’ve not heard of before. As it was on offer, purchased some, and just started using it. It’s so much better. Washed my hair on Friday. Much nicer result, and my hair doesn’t look greasy five minutes after I’ve washed it.

In Boots, it currently works out at £5 for 350ml not on offer, whilst Elvive is £4 for 400ml on offer, so an offer price may be a comparable price.

SoScarletItWas · 06/07/2025 11:24

That’s good to hear, @Gundogday, I have some Monday in the cupboard which I bought before I stocked up on old-formula Elvive.

Gundogday · 25/07/2025 16:55

How’s everyone doing? What has everyone switched to?

MoominUnderWater · 25/07/2025 17:12

I actually threw my purple hydralonic Elvive out as it made the texture of my hair so awful after using it a few times. Have bought some Dove hydrating shampoo which I like.

MoominUnderWater · 25/07/2025 17:13

Has anyone tried Being shampoo from Superdrug? Gets good reviews.

What have they done to Elvive?!
Daftapath · 25/07/2025 17:16

I’ve moved on to the seaweed shampoo that is being advertised everywhere. So far so good. It’s expensive but I don’t get any itching which I get with so many things 🤞🏻

JenniferBooth · 25/07/2025 19:40

Im not getting on so well with the John Frieda Pro Colour Revive one any more Now seems to make my hair feel a bit greasy the next day after only washing it the night before.

MsSmartShoes · 25/07/2025 20:06

I don’t know why they change formulas
when everyone is happy with the original. Look at what they did to Nivea Soft - it’s vegan and sticky now and everyone hates it.

Johaanah · 25/07/2025 20:14

I’m halfway through my last 1L bottle of the original Elvive colour protect shampoo and have no idea what to try once this has run out.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Or found a shampoo that doesn’t make your hair greasy?

Yes! Nivea soft was one of my products that I have used everyday for years (along with Elvive)!

My go to deodorant (Vaseline aloe sensitive) has also changed smell too. It’s quite a pleasant smell but I’m keeping everything crossed that I don’t react to it.

JenniferBooth · 25/07/2025 21:33

Is Nivea Soft the one in the blue tub or the white tube

Oh Simple face wash have changed their packaging from a tube to a pump action dispenser. I managed to get the last two Simple age resisting face wash in tubes from our local Superdrug a few weeks ago

ThisHonestCrow · 25/07/2025 22:25

I have found 'OSMO' from a hairdresser suppliers. I was really surprised by the price, around £5 and it's a salon supplier product. It's fantastic.

MsSmartShoes · 25/07/2025 23:14

@ThisHonestCrow the white tube or tube. I used it for four pregnancies and neve had a single stretch mark. I’ve bought as many of the original as I could find as if i am a apocalyptic prepper. I hope they and the vegans are happy because the rest of us are bereft/livid.

I’ve still got a healthy OG Elvive stash but I’ve tried Monday which was nice. I was at a friend’s in the week and used her Pantene Colour and that was surprisingly good!
