I've been seeing these all over the place and I just don't understand who would look good in them? Maybe it's because I'm short and on the dumpier side so can't imagine anything less flattering to me, but I don't think they look good on any of the advertising I've seen either? Am I officially old now?

Wear whatever you want but dont fool yourself. NO ONE is shaped that way.
maybe you like looking bow legged, with wide hip saddle-bags, but get real… the only reason anyone would wear these is bc they are overly concerned with influencer style (they are paid by advertisers for number of followers and pics of items theyre given for free) and have no sense of self awareness. These look ridiculous.

Who pissed in your chips? Don't bloody wear them then. Be a "renegade" who's worried about what's flattering according to society and makes you look smaller, because that's the very definition of a free thinker.

Still loving mine. Thanks for your concern @FlySafely but DFOD.

“No one is shaped that way”

No one’s legs are bootcut or straight legged or flared shaped either. Do our clothes have to be body shaped?

FlySafely · 18/04/2025 16:40

If the right influencers wore a pair of sheer pantyhose and nothing else, and told their followers it was the coolest new fashion, I guarantee people would be defending the look just like theyre doing with these barrel pants, lol! It’s like a modern version of, “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, lol!!! Wear whatever yall like, it’s entertaining for the rest of us😆

eh? don't know or follow any influencers, I'm past the age group for that. I wear barrel jeans because they're terribly comfy and think they look nice. The idea that trousers have to be shaped to your body shape is the most foolish comment so far on MN.

Cantonet · 18/04/2025 17:44

Isn't there an influencer for every age now?
I follow several and I'm 61. It's the easiest way I know of staying up to date. There are several in their 70's but I'm not sure about any in their 80's.

henlake7 · 18/04/2025 17:46

Is this some weird sour grapes thing? Just because they might look rubbish on one person doesn't mean they look rubbish on everybody.
I've seen plenty of people they really suit (including me....I totally rock a pair of barrel legged jeans!).

It's like me saying all tapered leg trousers are hideous and ugly coz they make everybody's legs look like deformed carrots, just because they make my legs look like deformed carrots!😄

Mumofyellows · 18/04/2025 18:12

I was in Tesco earlier and they had 2 rails full of barrel leg jeans all reduced to about £12! I was tempted to grab a pair to try but pretty sure they won't suit me and my horrible figure.

If you wear this style it might be worth a trip to Tesco for a bargain!

Agreed. I thought we had moved past the concept that flattering was the be all and end all.

That’s just something people said before ozempic was invented. Now people can be slim if they can afford the jabs they can stop pretending.

What does that even mean!?
Im a size 8/10 and I much prefer the way barrel legged jeans look on me then skinnies.
Are you only allowed to wear certain styles depending on your size or is it that you are only allowed to think they look good at certain sizes?😕

I've got the Tu barrel leg jeans and have just bought another pair as I'm constantly in them. I'm 5ft 7 with an hourglass figure, really narrow waist and big hips and thighs and they are the most flattering jeans in me. I recently wore them for a city break and I usually hate photos of myself but the ones where I am wearing these jeans I'm happy with, they can be flattering I just think they have to be the right pair on the right body shape, like everything. Skinny jeans look awful on me, I look like a carrot 🤣

Agreed. I got these last week and live them. Have had people asking where they were from.

But I can't weat skinny jeans, I'm a size 12, have large boobs and really thin legs so look like Msx Wall in them, I'm 5ft 3 inches and rolled the hem up and they look good, as they balance my top and bottom half.

I'm going to buy more pairs in lighter and darker colours.

The Tu ones aren't those horseshoe shape though, more just loose abd relaxed.

WigglywagglyWanda · 19/04/2025 16:43

Sorry about the typos, was too late to correct.

Laughing at the rude people on here. I don't think a complete stranger would say ' I hope you don't mind me asking but where are your jeans from '.....if they were horrendously unattractive on me.

BeesAndCrumpets · 22/04/2025 14:52

I am still in love with mine. Bore off haters!!

As a PP said, they seem to add balance. And they're SO comfortable. I'm so glad I've found denim that works for me, as so many shapes do not (5'3, larger than average hips/bum/boobs)

It's made me think of all the athleisure <boak> wearers, rows and rows of women in 'sports' leggings, white socks and trainers. I can't bear the look, honestly, especially the flesh coloured ones! But - each to their own init.

Floisme · 22/04/2025 15:15

I'm always startled by the number of people who seem incapable of grasping that different people like different things.

LadeOde · 22/04/2025 18:23

It's not that they don't grasp different people like different things, it's that they believe their choice is superior to all other choices and see people choosing differently as an affront to their perceived superiority.

WigglywagglyWanda · 22/04/2025 22:21

I chuckle. It's such a cliche on here, perfectly fine to say you're not keen on something, another level of rudeness earlier but hey, it goes with the mumsnet, head tilt and making a chicken last a week😆

I bought Toast "twisted seam japanese denim trousers" and love them. (Also known as barrel jeans)

Why be so rude? Just because you don't like them you don't need to be rude.
For the record I have 2 pairs of barrel jeans and I don't follow any influencers at all. I have them because I like wearing them and they flatter my shape.

Lampzade · 23/04/2025 08:34

If they suit your shape, what is the issue with buying them.?
They don’t suit me which is why I don’t have a pair of these jeans

Essentially they are just baggy jeans that go in abit towards the bottom.
I have several pairs of parachute pants, some tailored balloon trousers and I prefer my joggers to be wide and cuffed.
Barrel jeans might be abit more curved in the leg but they really arent that revolutionary a shape. I should of known by my previous trews that I would like them!

Any material, any height, barrel trousers make everyone look like John Wayne after a particularly hard ride across the plains!

Get off your horse and drink your milk.

Love the Duke

Love my barrel jeans almost as much
