Can anyone recommend something similar to YSL Opium please? The original 80s Opium, I wore it for years, it was full of depth, intense and long lasting, it was changed around 2009, it just doesn't have the staying power it used to have! I like an oriental floral, woody, ambery scent, that lasts! I also loved the original Guerlain Samsara of the 80s/90s, I think that's changed as well!
I can't afford to try a lot of different things that I'll end up not wearing, but I'm happy to spend on The One! I've heard that Estee Lauder Youth Dew and Cinnabar are similar to Opium, has anyone tried them?

Sold my givenchy linterdit collection 6 out of 7 today and few others I was not going to use. It good to declutter, even thought I probably ask for too little it was sold in seconds. I am just mostly over that DNA and one is fine if I am feeling nostalgic.

Scent of the day Gucci Guilty Love the male edition.

Bois d'ebene today. I love this deep woody scent by matiere premiere.

Zara Cherry Smoothie today. It's supposedly a dupe of Lost Cherry; I've only sampled that once, but my recollection is that it was richer, deeper and longer lasting than the Zara. Still, it's a nice, fruity, fun, summery scent and I like it.

Yesterday I tried En Passant from Malle. I got some cucumber in the opening and then lilac, but I couldn't distinguish all the notes it's supposed to have. At one point there was a somewhat disturbing whiff of burning rubber / overheated tyres. Once that passed, it was enjoyable, but not enough to buy a FB.

MiaN · 01/06/2025 06:26

Cherry smoothie is not like lost cherry at all, people like to claim zaras perfumes are dupes sometimes based on little or no knowledge of the original.

Thanks, as I like lost cherry but not the price tag.
Love fest burning cherry by kayali is , whilst not the same, a passable alternative for those who like TF LC.

Xerjoff La Capitale for me today. Sweet, strawberry, vanilla and incense-y to my nose.

Octopusespunchforfun · 01/06/2025 15:22

Armani Si, love this one. Almost at the end of the bottle so need to repurchase

MiaN · 01/06/2025 19:00

I have small bottle of Lost Cherry and Kayali Burning cherry and they are both great imo. Some similarities, not dupes for sure and I really like both

SOTD Lipstick Rose by Frederic Malle. I expected to dislike this because of the name, but I love it. First hit was pure Parma Violet and then it's all sorts of floral. Rose is not dominant, for me. I'm not getting any lipstick. My plan was to try something else after my shower but I liked this so much, I reapplied it. A definite hit.

Lurkingshark · 01/06/2025 20:05

Orange bitters for me by Jo Malone. I love both the candle and the scent, but in a certain mood.

Im in the mood for self gifting - any pros/ cons for BDK sampler vs Diptyque (some solid perfumes and samples) or 4120 Tuesday sampler?

IDontHateRainbows · 01/06/2025 20:22

Alien Goddess Supra Florale. I thought I would like this more as I fell in love with alien extraintense, but the jury's out. It's got a very sweet almost like burnt caramel feel to it. One I think I would enjoy wearing at bedtime when I like a cosy, simple scent.

Various Guerlain squirts. I really like one of them, but unfortunately I've forgotten which is which. Stupid of me.

Zoetrope1 · 02/06/2025 07:22

@HolidayHattie I do that all the time! Can you narrow it down by notes?

Sospiro Vibrato today, and effervescent grapefruit,
with some ginger and florals that dries down to a
musky, ambery sweet base. The dry down smells almost creamy to me even though I can’t see anything in the notes that would suggest that. It’s very similar to Ingenious Ginger but I like this better.

IDontHateRainbows · 02/06/2025 07:52

May have to wash it off before I get to work as it's a strong one, but crystal saffron by matiere premiere is the scent of choice this morning. I'll see if it's faded a bit by the time I arrive. They should be used to my weird and wonderful whiff by now!!

4160T Dancing With Strangers today. I'm reaching for this and Sexiest Scent a lot at the moment, both sweet but quite subtle.

AprilLady · 02/06/2025 08:36

@HolidayHattie your post reminded me I haven’t worn it for a while, so FM Lipstick Rose today. it does have a very definite “lipstick” scent to me - it’s the scent of my mother’s make up back in the seventies and eighties, and I think this is the effect that was intended. In any event, it’s my second favourite violet/rose scent, favourite being Chanel’s Misia.

@Dragonfly97 you’ve not had any responses. I think most of those currently posting are not that keen on vintage/classic scents, but I too like the original Opium. I like Youth Dew too - and this might be worth a punt as you can usually get it very cheaply on one of the discount sites eg. www.allbeauty.com/estee-lauder-youth-dew-eau-de-parfum-spray-67ml/11141505.html

Dragonfly97 · 02/06/2025 09:00

Thanks @AprilLady, I'll keep looking at this thread in case anything pops up; a lot of modern perfumes are too sweet or single note for me; there must be more complex perfumes out there, so I'll keep looking. The original Opium was so dense and layered, I'm not confident I'll find anything I'll love as much. Apparently some of the ingredients were allergens so they reformulated it.

That sounds lovely!

IDontHateRainbows · 02/06/2025 13:36

Found a tiny sample of crivelli tubereuse astral, another corker from Quentin Biche, with 2 of my favorite notes tuberose and saffron. Think cinnamon is in there too.

I seem to really go for wood, nut, spice type scents. Wish Crivelli did a tobacco scent.

4160 Tuesdays have a very strong house DNA that runs through a lot of their perfumes, which can be a double-edged sword, depending on whether you like it or not. Personally I don't care for it, but I do enjoy some of their fragrances (Ealing Green is lovely).

BDK is a lovely house. If you like cherry, rouge smoking is really good. Gris Charnel is great, like a spicy milky tea, but more suited to the winter months. I also really like 312 St Honore and Creme de cuir.

The only one I really don't like, which is one of their more popular ones but just doesn't do it for me, is pas ce soir which is a fruity floral.

Miller Harris Cassis En Feuille, loving the tartness and softer drydown.

Zoetrope1 · 30/06/2025 22:25

I had my last chemo session yesterday and I don’t know if that’s what’s driving it but I’ve been craving beautiful things. I’ve ordered more perfume samples (chasing scents - the tea collection) and have been reaching for my jewellery more and more too. Not complaining! 😊
