Matiere Premiere Vanilla Powder - I keep returning to this one, it is a contender for fb one day maybe. Its a simple, strong scent which I can see myself wearing year round.

DR Harris Twenty Nine today. Wish I could get this as an EDP as it's a gorgeous spicy rose but doesn't last very long.

Millymollymine · 24/02/2025 21:55

Help - I am in need of inspiration - I loved the Xerjoff samples - well 3/4 of them - Dama Binaca, Lira and Starlight. Luna didn’t do it for me. I’ve ordered 30ml of Dama Bianca and Lira, and got a 15ml of Starlight from Vinted.

However - that was my last sample set 😫 - i’ve been really lucky and on a roll since Oct/November trying new scents - I’ve had the fragrance edit from liberty, space nk and harvey nicholas fragrance advent, discovery kits from Penhaligons, Frederick Malle, Kayali. Are there any discovery kits that any of you would recommend that I could treat myself to next payday? I like all different types of perfume and really open minded about trying everything. Thanks

TheLongRider · 24/02/2025 23:06

I haven't used this company Edulge but they have a shop in London that specializes in perfume. I intend to visit next time in over. They list pick and mix discovery sets on their website. They do stock Theodoros Kalotini's Coffee Addict if you want to smell like a beautiful coffee vanilla latte!

MiaN · 25/02/2025 06:48

BDK make your own sample set are worth looking at

Lurkingshark · 25/02/2025 06:48

@Millymollymine these are the ones I was interested in Christmas time.

floral street (some are dupes/similar to more expensive)
byredo
Etat Libre d’orange
serge Lutens
Goutal
Replica MMM (but bought for sibling so just smelling off that)

I wonder if you are better off getting some decants of a long list or vinted as the kits you bought were nice high end mixes.

MiaN · 25/02/2025 07:06

I will go for portofino-97 today. I am in mood for strong scent

@Millymollymine In addition to those mentioned above, I'd add in that DS & Durga do two sets. Aesop also have a very reasonably priced discovery set. You can also order individual small samples from Perfumer H, though nothing as a specific set.

IDontHateRainbows · 25/02/2025 10:55

I found the DS and Durga set to be really expensive at £55 for 5 x 2ml - I got the 6 box set of 6 x 10ml for my birthday which was £160 but much better value per ml.

Finally using fragrance again after a week of household lurgies and not being in the mood. Sotd is delina exlusif, very feminine and love that its lychee forward on me, less rose and more fruity

fromthevault · 25/02/2025 12:44

@millymollymine - you might want to check out Bloom Perfumery online. They do lots of themed sample sets from a wide variety of niche perfumers so you're bound to find something interesting! Well worth a visit to the shop too, if you're ever anywhere near Covent Garden.

SOTD is Penhaligon's Elizabethan Rose.

IDontHateRainbows · 25/02/2025 21:19

Bdk rouge smoking, although not on my skin as I got a worrying reaction last week either due to over use in general or versace bright crystal which I will admit to putting rather a lot on, this was the perfume preceding the horrible itchy rash I am battling! So hard to go without completely so I've been spraying on to cloth. Never had any kind of skin reaction before to anything, this will definitely make me think twice about overspraying once better, the itch is horrible!

Perfume lifts my spirits. Recently I haven’t used perfume, CBA, but a few days ago I used my Pabloma Picasso. It’s reminded my why I use perfume.

I accidentally bought a dupe for Gucci Flora Gorgeous Jasmine when I was browsing in Aldi.

It is beyond gorgeous, I can't wait to hit summer smelling of verdant, heady bouquets!

And only 6.99 😊

Which one is this please? It sounds lovely

IDontHateRainbows · 26/02/2025 10:32

Byredo gypsy water today. Just right for this time of year with a citrusy top note but a vanilla base

OP posts:
MiaN · 26/02/2025 11:43

I am going to go with Commodity Gold - same vibe as Gypsy Water.

Millymollymine · 26/02/2025 15:31

SOTD is Killian I don’t need a prince by my side to be a princess - sweet marshmallow, creamy and comforting

IDontHateRainbows · 26/02/2025 16:40

Back on the matiere premiere as working from home today - have gone for Crystal Saffron which is this wonderful mixture of saffron and ambroxan, something addictive about it. At first I thought the dry down was too synthetic but I'm seeing now that it's all part of the charm/plan, it has a cold almost metallic sense to it which goes wonderfully with the saffron.

Guerlain Pamplelune today. Great when I'm in no mood to put up with nonsense!

TheGander · 26/02/2025 21:17

May I ask what Bal d’Afrique is like @IDontHateRainbows ? Still pursuing the one and considering ordering a sample to try it out.

TheLongRider · 26/02/2025 21:32

I got a proper sniff of Baccarat Rouge today. I can confirm that Arianna Grande Cloud makes for an acceptable dupe.

It's citrussy but sweet, but honestly you're better off going on a site like fragrantica than asking me, will give you scent profile and reviews.

A cheaper, and in my opinion better option is rare beauty find comfort. Very similar although a little softer and I believe done by the same perfumer!

OP posts:
MiaN · 27/02/2025 05:59

They are similar, but I prefer bal D'Afrique. Try it, it's one of my favouritess
