Al Ula today - my last Penhaligon's sample. I really didn't like it at first because I got a lot of turmeric in the opening and I really don't like the taste or smell of turmeric. I think if I dislike something, I notice it more whereas things I do like blend in more.

Although turmeric is listed as a base note, not a top note, it seems to have faded more into the background in the dry down so I like it better now. I'm not getting any plum.

HolidayHattie · 26/05/2025 19:31

Decided Al Ula could do with the addition of something sweet, so I layered it with a light mist of Duchess Rose. It improves both of them imho.

I've had four perfume free days - i have to admit I did miss my daily spritzing, but good to take a break. Now my friend who reacts badly has gone, I've gone straight for the mat prem discovery box, and on with the Bois D'ebene. This is as the name suggests, a dark wood scent. Fragrantica lists only 3 notes - wood, earth and patchouli. It's interesting scent, quite masculine. I think I prefer Santal Austral, his other wood scent. But I like this as an occasional change.

Tried the Kayali Maldives sample today. Pleasant beachy fragrance as you would expect but it didn't seem to last long. I did go to the gym at lunch though.

Zoetrope1 · 27/05/2025 23:14

YSL Babycat today. Slightly spicy, resinous vanilla with suede. It’s nicely balanced and not too sweet. I’m getting a bit of a burnt rubber note but it’s not off putting. It’s a like for me but I think it’s over hyped by the fragrance community.

HolidayHattie · 28/05/2025 00:05

Eau de Magnolia, Frederic Malle
Sprayed at about 5.30 pm. By the time I got home at 9pm, it had gone. Nice enough, vaguely floral, but nothing special. I certainly didn't get all the notes listed on Fragrantica.

For anyone that loves Sana Jardin, full bottles are on Brand Alley. I’m fond on the Sandalwood one but no need of a full bottle of anything ATM….

OvaHere · 28/05/2025 08:18

Next has a new fragrance box for £22. Mini Moschino Pearl EDT, Floral Street Bloom EDP, a body spray, pillow spray and 2 candles.

I’m very tempted!

I got the liberty men's / father's day beauty kit - will sell on most but am keeping the maya njie nordic cedar eau de parfum. It's very cardamommy and also quite fresh - not my usual thing at all but quite like it.

Annoyingly, the father's day kit compared to the mother's day kit is much better value for money and only £89 ( minus 10% for beauty drop members) compared to £130. Sexism in action! Hopefully I can make enough by selling some on although ebay is being really slow since they alienated all the buyers by introducing the buyer protection fee.

Sot evening etat libre d'oranges nostos which is a heavy oud-y rose type scent. The colded weather had made me crave heavy scents, this is lovely. From the harrods scent AC
.

Carnal Flower today. I'm not sure I know what tuberose should smell like, so I don't know whether I like it or not, but I'm not madly keen on this. I find it very hard to say what I don't like about it. The dry down is nicer than the initial smell but again it is fading quite quickly.

Thanks for this! Sandalwood temple has been on my wish list for a while and this is a good deal, I just pulled the trigger.

Zoetrope1 · 29/05/2025 00:17

SOTD musk therapy layered with pas ce soir for a fruity edge.

Zoetrope1 · 29/05/2025 08:00

Babycat again this evening. Oh no! This is really growing on me, the dry down is delicious - the perfect vanilla.

Magpiecomplex · 29/05/2025 08:24

Trying Floral Street Sunflower Pop today. Very nice sharp, zingy citrus, but not worth a full bottle considering I already have Guerlain Pamplelune and Penhaligons Luna.

RoseTeaLady · 29/05/2025 08:50

I’m wearing Sunflower Pop today. Like the initial citrus hit, but the dry down goes quite sour on me. I have a 10ml bottle which was in a beauty box and wouldn’t buy a full one.
Luna, on the other hand, is gorgeous.

IDontHateRainbows · 29/05/2025 09:01

Zara immortal vanilla today which is a dupe of mat prem vanilla powder. I would have worn the real thing but I'm interviewing this morning and it's a bit strong.

I've decided that as I can no longer afford the expensive ones I need to reconsider dupes... had a bad experience trying to find a dupe for mojave ghost last year but some perfumes are more dupable than others it seems as the zara vanilla is a great copy. Just not as long lasting or strong but that works in my favour today.

Anyone recommend any other zaras?

Tried Noa again today in store. The first time, I was just coming down with a cold so my sense of smell might have been dodgy. However, I still don't like it, so that's that.

Alien Goddess original and Intense on the other arm. I like them both; maybe Intense slightly more; it seems slightly sweeter.

Octopusespunchforfun · 29/05/2025 18:31

Trying Burberry Goddess again today, I’m not a fan. There’s a weird dry undertone that I really dislike.

IDontHateRainbows · 29/05/2025 23:10

SOT Evening is crivelli ambre chromatique. Love this one. Very strong.

IDontHateRainbows · 30/05/2025 13:22

Sticking with crivelli, rose saltifolia. I'm.not usually a rose fan but this is a rose that's gone for a dip in the sea at margate on a bracing spring morning!

Crivelli is catching up with mat prem as fave house. They are quite different, crivelli being creative blends whereas mat prem focuses on one main ingredient.

Any 4160T fans, they're about to start retiring some of their perfumes but will have a sale first. Apparently the first three to go are:

Invisible Ben
Tokyo Spring Blossom
Freshly Laundered

@holalolla This is thread I mentioned and posters may be able to help you x

Loving Graff lesedi la rona vi today, it's like a lighter version of nostos, with vanilla and floral. Quite sweet. The fb are like £400 but as this was in the harrods fragrance calendar, I've been able to pick up the travel size quite cheaply on ebay.
