Snag tights - WTF???

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 14/02/2025 10:45

Hi everyone

I posted on this board asking about an outfit and someone suggested I should buy some coloured tights from Snag.

I've just been onto their website and it's like a shop for fetishists. Some seriously weird stuff.

I'm not uptight or a prude, but I honestly thought this was a shop selling tights. I've seen a few ads pop up on FB showing different coloured tights. But there were loads of photos of other stuff which was outside the norm.

I appreciate that there's probably a continuum in underwear with opaque 80 Denier tights at one end and fetish stuff at the other, but wouldn't it make more sense to have these as two separate businesses? Or am I just being precious?

Sorry, posted the same one twice!
Meant to post this one.

Regardless of what I think of their ethos, their tights are shit.
I bought some for Christmas, black with gold stars.
The stars were literally those gold star stickers kids get on their homework and although they were glued on fairly well the tights pulled around them and looked awful. Plus terribly uncomfortable and far too big despite buying their recommended size.

verysmellyjelly · 14/02/2025 12:58

Please could posters on the thread make some effort to remember that a lot of lesbians see "queer" as a slur rather than a fun word for alt fashion? It's upsetting seeing it in S&B so casually.

I've bought from Snag before but I agree they've pornified themselves to cater to men. Now I boycott.

“I’m not a prude but…”
Proceeds to demonstrate just how much of a prude they are.

Rejecting fetishised styles isn't prudish.

AnxiouslyAwaitingSpring · 14/02/2025 13:00

I agree, OP. They're really odd. Plus they believe men can be women so I'm out as far as they're concerned

I've never met any member of the LGBTQ community who finds queer a slur? I thought they repatriated it for themselves decades ago. I have male and female friends who describe themselves as queer all the time.

Lentilweaver · 14/02/2025 13:02

Been discussed on here many times. I dont like their aesthetic and I struggle to see how their tights would look on me, so I don't buy from them any more.

ChaToilLeam · 14/02/2025 13:03

I went right off them with their pornified advertising. I buy from Better Tights now.

Both my DC see it as a slur.

whatawonderfultime · 14/02/2025 13:04

I buy from Snag, I wouldn't buy their fetish things but I don't expect to like 50% of what any fashion shop sells. And thank god I don't, because my bank balance would suffer a lot 😂

I'm uncomfortable with fish that have heads, that doesn't mean I boycott supermarkets. I just don't buy fish with heads.

TheChosenTwo · 14/02/2025 13:08

They are the only place I buy tights from. Regular size, plain black, fit my long legs, don’t wriggle down and are pretty hard wearing.
They aren’t the only place to buy tights from, you are free to buy them from anywhere! But they suit my needs so I buy mine from snag.
A surprisingly large amount of people froth at the mouth after looking at their website and create threads about it!
I have never noticed their marketing because I just don’t take an interest, all I want to do is buy clothes that work for me.

summerlovingvibes · 14/02/2025 13:09

I mean.... if you click on the "belts and harnesses" section then you'll probably see some harnesses. If you click on "tights" then you'll find tights. Chub rub shorts for their shorts (which are amazing by the way).

Don't see why it's an issue for them to see what ever they want, it doesn't make their tights any less good.

Don't click on the sections for items that you don't want to see. Simple!

WinterBones · 14/02/2025 13:12

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 14/02/2025 11:53

It's not the tights that are the issue! It's the weird "body harnesses" etc.

Those body harnesses are not 'weird' i'm a Goth, and those kind of things are every day fashion accessories to me.

You calling my fashion 'weird' just because it's not your personal cup of tea is actually quite offensive.

OneBadKitty · 14/02/2025 13:14

I agree OP, looked a few times after recommendations on MN but the site just seems geared to people who enjoy a certain look- mainly the overweight burlesque look!

verysmellyjelly · 14/02/2025 13:14

@whatawonderfultime it's extremely common for LGB people to still see it as a slur, actually. Of course not everyone, there are some, like your friends, who feel differently.

HiptotheHopp · 14/02/2025 13:14

GabbyP · 14/02/2025 12:04

I find their marketing really off putting tbh, I don’t want to see morbidly obese models any more than I want to see anorexic ones. It clearly works for them as a marketing strategy though.

Same. Also see pictures of men in tights rolling around on a bed.

It's all very porny. Wouldn't buy on that basis

Maybe it's the older generations who see it as offensive then, we are all 20s/30s/40s.

verysmellyjelly · 14/02/2025 13:17

@whatawonderfultime No, it's not older generations. I am quite young as an example. (One of the decades you mentioned.)

But even the tights page has models dressed a particular way like as witches etc. or with sexy goth type fashion and most of them are very curvy and plus sized. Most people don't dress this way so it's all very niche.

I think that's just a you thing then.

henlake7 · 14/02/2025 13:18

I dont see the issue TBH. I mean there are a few arse shots I could of done without but mainly it just seems to be bigger girls living their absolute best life....whats wrong with that?
Also I dont think that mock garters or body harnesses are particularly 'out there' or fetish wear. That just sounds like quite mainstream alt fashion to me.

(Im 52 and would describe myself as fairly boring but I love abit of alternative fashion. Give me all the colours and accoutrements!!LOL😎).

Iloveeverycat · 14/02/2025 13:18

Had a look. Looks fine to me. Didn't realise there were so many pearl clutchers. I am 60

You think pps children are the older generation? So pp must be, what, 90 plus ?
