Snag tights - WTF???

Hi everyone

I posted on this board asking about an outfit and someone suggested I should buy some coloured tights from Snag.

I've just been onto their website and it's like a shop for fetishists. Some seriously weird stuff.

I'm not uptight or a prude, but I honestly thought this was a shop selling tights. I've seen a few ads pop up on FB showing different coloured tights. But there were loads of photos of other stuff which was outside the norm.

I appreciate that there's probably a continuum in underwear with opaque 80 Denier tights at one end and fetish stuff at the other, but wouldn't it make more sense to have these as two separate businesses? Or am I just being precious?

Yes I know, I corrected myself in my next post.

My point remains. They wouldn't use a dangerously thin anorexic model. But happy to use a dangerously obese model.

YABU. I love snag tights and agree with the posters saying that they tend to be worn by people with more alternative styles/fashion. They don’t show any extra skin than most other clothing shops lingerie photos which are actually worse a lot of the time. People who shout ‘fetish’ about snag tights usually just don’t like seeing plus size women wearing lingerie, showing skin or don’t like the alternative look and wouldn’t be saying the same if it was all thin supermodels.

I don’t know why people always say they are good quality. I bought some “chub rub” shorts and they’ve fallen apart almost immediately. Also why oh why did they start putting labels in them?!? My first purchases didn’t have these. Not very inclusive for the many people with sensory issues (inc. me). Also men are not women.

No idea about their history and the patches and trans models people are mentioning - but there's nothing on the current website I can see to cause offence (only looked in response to this thread - I've never bought from them).

What? Were you definitely on the right website?

I bought a bunch of tights from there a few months ago and they've held up well, wash well and feel comfortable. No falling down or rolling.

I'm planning to get some more.

Snag tights are amazing! I really don't understand what's fetish-like about them? Surely not the mock garters etc?

I keep getting ads pop up on Facebook for them. It used to be for tights, then recently it was for stretchy denim, but this week it's some kind of harness thing which looks quite S&M to me - pretty niche I would have thought, making them look like a fetish wear company.

I love their tights and wont buy from anywhere else! They do other stuff too but no-one has yet forced me.to buy it.:) buy what you want and leave the rest.

I don't care about the 'alternative', slightly bdsm look (though it definitely doesn't appeal to me at all). I do care about the fact that they've had models who are men dressed up in little girl outfits. Repulsive.

@Moro93 No. The "fetish" aspect of Snag has nothing to do with them using, among their models, some bigger women. It comes off as very disingenuous to claim that this is the root of what women are objecting to. We've made it very clear that's not the issue.

@verysmellyjelly Clearly some people do have an issue with the use of plus size models. Comments like the above are very ignorant considering they show a range of body shapes. There are plenty of companies (the majority in fact) such as Victoria’s Secret etc where 99.9% of their models are very thin but apparently that’s fine.

I don’t agree that there’s any ‘fetish’ aspect, I believe a lot of their photos are normal people that send them to be used or give permission and do photo shoots etc. I don’t understand what people are seeing that’s so sexualised.

The issue is, you've all found a site that is selling underwear and lingerie to women of a particular size, who are not well catered for, and decided to decry it because you don't like their style of photography.

The reason you don't like it is because its fat women.

Straight size lingerie sites are COVERED in women in similar poses, and no-one mentions those, no-one is on here calling them disgusting or accusing them of 'pornification'.

Its plus size women looking sexy that you have an issue with. Stop trying to hide it behind your pearl clutching.

People can do what they like, I just don’t find it attractive when I’m choosing clothes for myself to see somebody that’s not in shape. Maybe it’s a result of hundreds of years of stereotyping. But just no.

One person said she objected to plus size models, vs the many people saying it's the pornified advertising and glorifying of violence against women that's the issue. Other commenters have said they are bigger themselves, or that they see it as positive having a range of models. So why are you intentionally ignoring all of that in order to focus on the one person who said something very explicitly negative about bigger models? She didn't even link it to the fetish aspect!

I see more sexualised items in high end lingerie stores. Are you sure you're not letting your opinion be coloured by bias about plus sized models, brightly coloured hair & slightly alternative fashion?

They are not amazing. And some of their pop up ads on socials are absolutely mental.

Well I like seeing what clothes look like on a body like mine before I waste money on something that looks awful because sizing up doesn't always work.

Er… there are a lot more people than just one complaining about the size of the models on this thread.
