So Snag have responded exactly as expected unfortunately

This is regarding the previous post regarding the Snag brand selling patches that promote choking. But of course we aren't allowed to be uncomfortable with it as women without being branded bullies etc. Disappointed is putting it lightly after being a loyal Snag customer from their first year. But I guess my experience as an abuse survivor is not valuable because kinks are being shamed, to heck with mine or any other abused people's discomfort with such wording. As expected the usual "kinks rule" brigade are out in force to shout down anyone with any genuine concerns. Not great Snag, not great..

Dammit, they're off my list then. I liked their tights too.

86% of Americans have tried BDSM? Really? Wonder what the source for that is.

Their tights are shit anyway and their advertising is enough to put me off completely, let alone this. Perhaps they should head to Nethuns if they are so easily offended. I mean it's laughable, calling out a website that has been around considerably longer than they ever will be, saying people here are offended, and then saying they are offended.
£20 says they are here stalking this thread now 👀😂 paranoid much Snag?!

I don't see what the problem is. If something makes you feel uncomfortable just don't buy it. No one is forcing you to. But just because it doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean it won't appeal to other people. We can't just go around banning everything because someone might be triggered.

We generally make exceptions to the free market idea of anything for sale, anything for buy. These exceptions include things like calls for violence. Like the one seen here.

I’m all for body positivity and am fully on board with dressing for yourself and not others comfort but I became really uncomfortable with what I see as them glorifying and fetishising obesity. I’m not slim but I failed to see myself represented in their marketing.

I read some of the comments on the Facebook post. I agree that a “choke me” badge is utterly vile and fwiw snag but be neither read 50 shades or seen it. I’m not remotely a prude in the bedroom either. I AM against violence against women (and violence in general ftr)

The fact is that the kink market is small and a lot of people will be offended by items like that. If they are determined to go along that route it’s unlikely to end well.

Bollocks to that, they are simply pandering to a very tiny minority at the expense of the vast majority of their customers, ie women. It is pathetic woke virtue signalling. Hope it's worth losing many more customers than any they might have gained from this.

It’s easy to avoid if you don’t like it. It’s a whole other website, which I would not have been aware of if mumsnet hadn’t gone all mumsnet about it. If you don’t like it, don’t visit the site. What other consenting adults do I’d their business. Choking may not be my thing, but I can continue buying my snag tights without having to interact with it. They’re not forcing it down your throats…although maybe there’s a patch for that too…😇

I can see your point, and I do agree with you by and large. I think I could've been ok with it but for the way it was handled. It reads as defensive and shouty but in a passive manner, then the comments are all the usual butt kissing responses (as in the term, not kink shaming those who wish to kiss butts before Snag jumps on me as well)
Their response entirely ignores the point that was previously made about the very real and concerning dangers in choking. That is what isn't ok to me. They have a large young fan following and as such might be wise to be mindful of that, rather than boldly storming ahead thinking everyone wants to stick it to the TERFs.
I also realise I've slightly gone off your point and for that I apologise.

Just more woke nonsense from those weird tights people.

I would never buy from them. Their market is peculiar very overweight men, last time I looked. And selling 'choke me' badges deserves to be called out

Some of the comments from Snag warrant a response from Mumsnet admins.

Really horrible shaming people isn't it? Like older women or people concerned about vawg.

So Snag have responded exactly as expected unfortunately

Probably depends on how one defines bdsm. Fairly mild stuff wouldn´t surprise me, tbh.

I'm sure if you like a bit of choking and the type that doesn't mind the world and his dog knowing, then you are above some women gathering in a corner of the internet to have a chat about it. Nobody took their 'edgy' patches away from them. They can still be cool girls.

I think they've got it from here:
https://bedbible.com/bdsm-statistics-facts-stats/
So it looks like they've got that statistic completely wrong - even if you think the study is accurate and representative (which surveys like these rarely are), the website says that actually 42% has tried BDSM at least once "86% of Americans have either tried BDSM at least once (42%) or expresses and interest to do so (44%)."

Their community isn't a safe space, it's a controlled space. They remove dissenting posts like the OPs from the other thread because they don't like what she had to say. Only one view point is acceptable and we're all nasty meanies for expressing a different point of view on a different site. So, not buying from them again!

It's not that though. My rapist choked me info submission. At hospital I was told how lucky I was, that choking/strangulation isn't an exact science and how easy it is to kill that way. There are academic papers, Government campaigns, pages on domestic abuse websites and even articles in the Guardian all discussing how dangerous it is. It can do long lasting physical damage, cause strokes and/or kill you weeks later.

I have a kink of my own, developed as a way of dealing with sex after rape. It has no public information campaigns against it, doesn't kill people and isn't seen as a warning sign to potential homicide. Kink in most cases is not an issue (presuming consenting adults/privacy). Choking is.

Minimalising it to the level of badges and social media tantrums is downright irresponsible, especially coming from a tights manufacturer. "Hey...buy a badge and your potential future murder weapon from us!!"
