Snag tights - WTF???

Hi everyone

I posted on this board asking about an outfit and someone suggested I should buy some coloured tights from Snag.

I've just been onto their website and it's like a shop for fetishists. Some seriously weird stuff.

I'm not uptight or a prude, but I honestly thought this was a shop selling tights. I've seen a few ads pop up on FB showing different coloured tights. But there were loads of photos of other stuff which was outside the norm.

I appreciate that there's probably a continuum in underwear with opaque 80 Denier tights at one end and fetish stuff at the other, but wouldn't it make more sense to have these as two separate businesses? Or am I just being precious?

Aside from their marketing, which is horrendous, I'm the only person in the world who didn't like their tights at all. They just fell down all the time. I had to get a refund. They were a bit snippy about it as well. Considering that was their main selling point (back before they went weird) I felt justified in the refund because they were unwearable. I think I still have one or two not unwrapped!

I totally understand being uncomfortable with changing trends in lingerie & accessories. I mentioned I've seen worse in high end stores, which is true, and some of these seem to use much more sexualised poses too (with women offering up their bottoms to their camera).
I have strong feelings about misogynistic porn trends becoming mainstream but I do think in this case, Snag tread lightly and are reflecting an inclusive, alternative & queer demographic.

I love snag tights! The harnesses and things like that are now being worn over clothes as part of an alternative style - I suppose like the modern day studded choker / dog collar-style necklaces?

I think maybe you are a little bit, if you think sexy lingerie is shocking. There's lingerie like that on Asos!

Or is it just because it's on plus-size women?

FWIW, to see the stuff like suspender belts and body harnesses you have to click on that section of the site, too. It's not like they're scattered among the opaque tights!

You're probably right, it's the poses as much as anything else. All my knickers come from British Boxers and I can't remember the last time I bought tights because I rarely wear dresses in winter, so I'm not used to seeing the very sexualized poses. Fashion and advertising trends change and I'm clearly behind the times!

I clicked on the belts section assuming it meant belts for trousers.

I won't buy from them because I disagree with their men can be women stance..

I did buy a pair in their early days, and they were awful quality!

Honestly, that's just alternative fashion. Body harnesses over clothes are a fairly popular look in a lot of alternative/goth/punk/metal aesthetics.

I don’t like their marketing or their belief that men can be women so I don’t shop there.

I have long legs, thick thighs so struggle with tights. Snag fit but they look kind of rough, vs making your legs look smooth.

I used to love snag but I can't stand their sexy posed advertisements, glamorising morbid obesity (as much as if boycott companies with anorexic looking advertising) or the belief men can be women so I boycott now

I love snag stuff but most of MN has proper hatred for the branding. The products are great though.

Don't be so ridiculous.....let's face it this stems from the fact that you're uncomfortable with a lot of the women on their website being fat and have the audacity to show their bodies.

It's a you problem. That isn't fetish wear and if you see fat as a fetish then that's on you too. Fat women (( and men )) still want to buy what they see as nice underwear. They still want to appear sexy to their partners. And that's fine.

The tights are really good. I only buy plain black and am not interested in their other stuff but theyre the best plain black tights I've ever had

Don't buy a body harness if you don't want a body harness. Personally I love Snag for my mega boring nude and black tights.

Just as an aside I find them quite generous sizing. I got an E as a size 14.16 5 foot 2 but the sizing gave me the option of 12/14 or 16/18 and I went for the bigger ones and they fit fine but I would prefer them a bit snuffed as they're so lovely and stretchy

I'm 49, so I'm no spring chicken 😄I honestly think this is maybe not an age thing but more about different looks/styles and what you'd typically be exposed to - subcultures and whatnot.

I wouldn't bat an eyelid at the stuff on the Snag site but I've certainly seen girls going out clubbing (to very mainstream clubs) in the city centre where I live and thought 'Has she forgotten to put her skirt on?' and been startled by girls going to a dance music festival near my house wearing horrid nylon neon see-through flares over bikinis with thong bottoms, so I'm certainly not immune to a bit of pearl-clutching either!

I have no issue with those kinds of products or them selling them.

I do own several pairs of their tights (soooo warm, fit well and last forever) and was so surprised by the post that I went to have a look. And not seeing anything that looks like a fetish to me. Some stuff that I wouldn't wear - there's stuff everywhere that I wouldn't wear. But I am wondering about pink hair. At 67 though, maybe not.

You made me chuckle. I recall a couple of years ago driving through a snowy Leeds city centre at 8am, and seeing a young woman who was obviously still on her way home from a night out, in the most uncomfortable looking shoes, a skirt that might actually have been a wide belt, and a crop top that might actually have just been another belt. No coat or anything and it was svereal degrees below freezing. And two thoughts went through my head simultaneously: "Dear God she forgot to get dressed" and "Dear God, I have turned into my mother!"

At least you didn't venture on to the site when they were selling their 'cum slut' sew on patches...

Their marketing has changed a lot over the years. I'd prob shop elsewhere now.
