Recommend me a chunky cosy wool jumper

I am after a brand that does good quality chunky pure wool or alpaca jumpers in neutral colours. I already shop in the likes of Arket and Cos. Also rate Celtic but wanted a bit of an upgrade. I know Babaa have what I am looking for, but ideally something a bit more affordable...Are there certain brands you'd recommend to go for? Don't mind spending more, maybe up to £200

I've got four different jumpers of theirs in various colours. Expensive, but very warm. My absolute go-to in this weather.

Thanks they look good, just a bit too fussy for my taste

I love my Bosie geelong chunky jumper. I have the orange one. The wool is really soft, but also a chunky knit. I'm also petite and it doesn't drown me, nor is it too clingy: bosie.co/products/big-softy-geelong-chunky-polo-neck-womens-jumper-furnace-orange

This is a definite contender!

I've just bought this from Celtic to replace an absolutely identical one which I've worn out (I've worn it A LOT, it aged well) and I love it - their geelong wool is lovely, very warm and extremely soft, and wears well:

I particularly liked this one as it is longer, and I don't like jumpers riding up and have quite a long body although I'm not particularly tall. They do other geelong jumpers, too.

I would get cold in this given how open-neck it is. feels like wearing anything else underneath would just spoil the look and wearing a scarf over it will hide the nice detail

I am going to hit the posh charity shops in Marylebone in March. Have had great knitwear finds there at the end of winter.

Chikasan · 12/01/2025 11:38

A bit of lateral thinking here. If you know the style you like, do you know anyone who can knit? A plain chunky jumper is quick to knit!

This is expensive but it looks it

I love Toast but don't think their knitwear is in the same category as some of the brands mentioned up thread. The best I came across was &daughter geelong jumper. Unfortunately it was too large so it went back but the quality was so good I even made a point about it on the returns label!

& daughter jumpers look so tempting especially with the sale currently on. I have two turtlenecks in my basket - currently trying to decide which one to purchase 😃

The only two jumpers I’ve bought that haven’t bobbled are from NavyGrey and Finisterre.

All the others have - even Toast, at their prices!

I wonder if the extent of bobbling is related to polyester content of the garment. In my experience everything that has any amount of polyester or acrylic in it bobbles pretty much straightaway. I am looking at you Arket, & other stories and pretty much the rest of the high street at the moment. It's so hard to find a jumper that's pure wool. Then there are the soft wool types like cashmere, alpaca and angora that tend to bobble and shed. Less of a problem with alpaca because of its texture already. Anything that's pure lambswool or merino shouldn't bobble so long as it's pure, unless it's extremely poor quality

@SongSungBlues

What's the sizing like with Oubas jumpers please? I've looked at the sizing info on the website but not all jumpers are listed.

@SongSungBlues

What's the sizing like with Oubas jumpers please? I've looked at the sizing info on the website but not all jumpers are listed.

I've only ever bought their Donegal Merino jumpers, and I tend to buy a Large, though my usual size is 14, as I like my jumpers to be relaxed fitting.

Is this the page you have looked at? If there is a jumper missing, I am sure they would let you know measurements. I have always found them to be friendly and helpful.

GARMENT SIZING

Below gives an outline of the sizing of our garments. Please note that with knitwear, there can be a 1-2 cm tolerance due to the malleability of the fabric.    WOMENS:    The Elba Tabard Top Size small: bust and chest = 45 cm, length side neck to hem =...

If you're going to the more expensive end, I absolutely love Rohe and Toteme. Closed is also great quality and a bit more expensive but has more of a jeans (less office wear, less sophisticated) vibe, and has a 50% sale I think at the moment. But for the chunky alpaca look, I'd go with a North European brand - they seem to do that style in a really striking way.

WHY did i open this thread?

Now I can't live without the Genevive Maud Cashmere in Plum with my initials hand embroidered above the cuff 😭

She is an absolute queen. I have many of her jumpers/ cardis/ tops/ socks, and they are so stylist and versatile. A bit of an investment but worth every penny.

Clarice99 · 12/01/2025 15:58

Thanks for your reply@SongSungBlues Yes, that's the page I looked at. I really love the Donegal Cable Sweater. I will email Oubas about sizing for that particular jumper.

I am feeling inspired but so many of tje expensive jumpers seem to bobble and stretch just as much as the other ones?

I bought a Community Clothing jumper after numerous MN reccos and am happy with it, but not washed yet. I know, not as luxury as many on this thread, but it's an upgrade for me!

Perhaps I've been fortunate, but the Celtic & Co stuff I've had hasn't bobbled at all until I've worn it many times, and then only the occasional one here and there. (I don't work for them or anything!)

Each to her own, of course, but the picture doesn't reflect how I wear it. The model has it well down from her shoulders, but I wear it as a "normal" jumper. I also really don't like roll necks, though, I don't like the feeling around my throat. This particular one comes up quite big, so I have a size small, and usually take their medium.

Cracked and ordered a Finisterrre jumper. More than I usually spend, but it looks lovely and I think I can get a lot of wear out of it because it is machine washable ( yay!)

Well I'm feeling January skint so I've got my knitting needles out!

OneBadKitty · 12/01/2025 22:21

So funny, OP said I want chunky pure wool or alpaca jumpers in neutral colours and posters pile in with links to fine knits and vibrant patterns!

Howmanyroses · 12/01/2025 22:43

Well I ended up buying an ecru &daughter turtleneck on sale on outnet. So excited!

You've all been such bad influences 🤣

Please can someone recommend a debobbler?
