Recommend me a chunky cosy wool jumper

I am after a brand that does good quality chunky pure wool or alpaca jumpers in neutral colours. I already shop in the likes of Arket and Cos. Also rate Celtic but wanted a bit of an upgrade. I know Babaa have what I am looking for, but ideally something a bit more affordable...Are there certain brands you'd recommend to go for? Don't mind spending more, maybe up to £200

These are absolutely gorgeous - I am torn now. Finisterre looks good too, just unsure about the weight of those - they look a bit lightweight on the site. The colours are gorgeous though

If they are cashmere or alpaca they will look lighter but will be no less warm...

Have you looked at Origin Knitwear? I have a red jumper and it's beautiful thick quality.

I love all those plus the Navygrey jumpers. I feel like at this price point I'd like to have the perfect jumper that will be soft to the touch, thick and sturdy, will drape nicely, be the right neutral shade, have some interesting detailing, sculptural interest and last me a lifetime with the right care. Not too much to ask for? 😂 I think this will be hard to find on the high street, with a couple of exceptions. I think the Babaa jumper is definitely the front runner now as it seems to tick all the above boxes...though the Craske jumper is really tempting

I should say I am particularly impressed by the geelong Lambswool. I managed to find a Celtic jumper made out this type of wool on vinted and it's the softest thickest most comfortable jumper ever. I just love it, but wanted something with a bit more up to date style

Babaa is a bit more affordable on sale. May I ask if the wool is scratchy? I am not too sensitive but would still be nice to have something on the softer side

Wouldn't say Babaà is the most scratchy but it's not smooth, it's a very rustic knit. I found Babaà wool is lovely and lightweight for how chunky it is but it's does bobble and stretch out of shape, hence why I felt my Babaà jumpers weren't really worth it in the end.

Apologies for recommending something out of stock! But keep an eye out next year - COS etc often repeat styles and that jumper is pretty great (I've the blue).

I love that Craske jumper!

Lentilweaver · 05/01/2025 08:13

Babaa jumpers bobble at that price?

I think all wool bobbles to some extent, which is part of the wear and tear, but it's easy to remove the bobbles with a fabric shaver. I have the eletric one from Phillips and it's brilliant. So far my two Celtic jumpers have bobbled the least, and I am not sure whether it's linked to quality or the type of wool (lambswool). It's disappointing to hear that Babaa jumpers go out of shape, for the price I would not have expected that

I have lambswool from Uniqlo and John Lewis which hasn't bobbled.
I was thinking of upgrading them. Some lovely knits on this thread.

I actually had the blue one in my basket checking out but dithering over the sizing when someone snapped it up and then it went out of stock again!

I’ve been looking for a V neck or boat neck jumper which is longer length, not clingy or boxy. I hate crew necks and have enough funnel necks .

Woolover generally does a lot of these. I know not very cool. But good quality.

Pachamama. 100% wool. Toasty warm.

It entirely depend upon how they're laundered as to whether they go out of shape. Strictly follow wash instructions, or hand wash in soap flakes not detergent. And after a light spin or drip, dry flat after restoring the shape by reshaping by hand.

Whoever recommended Genevieve: I won't rest until I've got one of their jumpers hanging in my wardrobe.

mambojambodothetango · 11/01/2025 17:53

Not read thread to see if anyone else has already recommended Finisterre and their chunky yak wool jumpers. I have two and when I wear one with a thermal base layer underneath I don't need the heating on, even in the current weather. They are also beautiful and bloody expensive

I've got two mora knits - cardi and roll neck jumper. Both thick merino, soft and oh so warm - very bouncy in feel and wash well. I need to be careful what I wear under them as prone to looking like a beetroot. Hardly any bobbling.

Netcam · 11/01/2025 19:09

I love my Bosie geelong chunky jumper. I have the orange one. The wool is really soft, but also a chunky knit. I'm also petite and it doesn't drown me, nor is it too clingy: bosie.co/products/big-softy-geelong-chunky-polo-neck-womens-jumper-furnace-orange

How about TOAST?

Divebar2021 · 11/01/2025 19:38

I’ve got the chunky high neck from Babaa… I got it in the sale for under £200. I haven’t washed it yet so I can’t comment on bobbling but it’s not a smooth knit like a cashmere so it doesn’t strike me as a super bobbly type. What I do love is the shape… it’s a very very cool oversized shape with drop shoulders. As a one size I would worry that it might drown someone under a size 10 but personally Im a fan. It’s obviously a small company too which is appealing.
