Help me pick the better boots

Pls help me make a choice of no consequence just for fun.

Hobbs Farrah black boots

or

Whistles Piper black boots?

I like both. My instinct is that the Whistles ones have a bit more chunkiness and now fashion cred, but the Hobbs ones might have more longevity precisely because they are a bit less overtly of the moment.

Hit me.

I’ve also changed to Hobbs now I’ve seen them on!

DreadPirateRobots · 23/11/2024 08:59

Isn't this thread a lesson in be careful what you wish for 😁

I do sort of wish I could keep both but when I looked at them both on my feet in the mirror and considered how I plan to wear them, Whistles was the clear winner. I need the greater chunkiness of them for outfit balance.

@DreadPirateRobots I'm terrible - I wouldn't be able to choose so I'd end up keeping them both. The Hobbs style fits my wardrobe better but I could use the Whistles style too - better for the very casual days. Oh I want to shop for boots!!

Enjoy them!

OliviaRodrighost · 23/11/2024 13:45

I’m desperate for the Hobbs for myself now! Can’t really justify them unfortunately 😤

Ponks · 23/11/2024 13:55

Well I have just ordered the Whistles boots thanks to this thread (and the 20% off for Black Friday) 😊

DreadPirateRobots · 23/11/2024 16:55

Is it wrong that I do enjoy when I make other people shop? 😁

Whistles were always the best choice IMO.

I like the Hobbs brand and footwear but not the shape of these boots.

BobbyBiscuits · 26/11/2024 01:10

Whistle. But it's only the chunkiness of the sole really, I like that kind of bulkiness. Woman of the grunge era no doubt. Lol.
I feel like if you wore them down they'd start to look more like the Hobbs one anyway, so more sole for your dollar? 🤣

bebrave6 · 26/11/2024 03:46

Hobbs

DreadPirateRobots · 26/11/2024 08:14

Both pairs of boots are currently on a Black Friday discount at John Lewis. I'm just saying.

So you went for the Whistles, then? Good. As an aficionado of ugly footwear I was coming on to say they are both equally ugly but the Hobbs offering is also somewhat cautious and boring.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 26/11/2024 14:45

Ok I concede that the Whistles one looks better on! However, I prefer the way the Hobbs one is laced up! (and I also prefer the fabulous sheen off the Hobbs one, the Whistles one already looks like it's got creases at the top of the foot/toes)

Notmefornow1 · 26/11/2024 15:17

Oh I read this whole thread and became so invested in wanting you to get the Hobbs ones. They look so much better quality - Whistles clothes are so overpriced for the quality and I assume their footwear is too although I often like their designs. The Hobbs ones are beautiful and classic without being boring imo.

I have several varieties of Chelsea boots this winter (happily mine have zips) including fur lined DMs, suede chunky heeled mid length ones from M and S, black leather lovely quality chunky ish mid length ones from M and S, more delicate slightly heeled Cos esque ones from Zara.

Notmefornow1 · 26/11/2024 15:17

None have zips! Not mine have zips!! Blush

Oodiks · 26/11/2024 22:20

Hobbs boots are v well made. I bought a pair on sale 18 years ago and I still wear them. I've had the heels replaced a couple of times and they're great!

POBCOB · 30/11/2024 17:52

I just bought a Hush pair because they are not so high, just a few eyelets less, and they also have a zip on the side to make it easier to put on and off.

LivinInYourBigGlassHouseWithAView · 30/11/2024 18:01

@pobcob do you have a link? I'm still pondering the options for a new pair of boots this season...

Poppadoom · 30/11/2024 18:04

Oh I’ve just seen the update to the thread!! Hobbs boots have been my fave since the beginning, though the Whistles are nice too. The try on pic may push me into buying them, eek.

KayBee27 · 30/11/2024 20:29

Whistles, the Hobbs look too masculine for me. Chunky boots have been in for years and arent going anywhere 😂

Dogsbreath7 · 30/11/2024 20:34

Hobbs, classic. Don’t like whistles heel quite ugly boots

ObieJoyful · 30/11/2024 21:11

I vote Whistles.

MaddestGranny · 30/11/2024 22:56

Look up Waldlaufer boots. They're cool, fab and so comfortable.
