The annual hunt for a dress like this that doesn’t exist

Honestly, been searching for a dress like this for about 10years… any help you can give is very much appreciated.

I want a dress that is:

Roll neck (proper high polo neck)
Maxi length- no splits
Knitted- in some sort of wool/natural fabric, not polyester or acrylic that gives off sparks
Not ribbed- you’d be surprised how many this rules out!
Black or brown

Is this the year I finally find one..? Probably not 😂

Hush do one most winters, hang on…

Cobblersorchard · 18/09/2024 21:29

I really doubt you’ll find one with no slits at all because it would be pretty hard to drive in or navigate life in to be honest at true maxi length. Certainly wouldn’t be very popular!

New Look have a nice light brown one but it does have a split.

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 18/09/2024 21:30

Thanks- that one has a split in though

It doesn’t need to be fitted all the way down, a flared skirt is fine. Just no slits.

Maxi length rather than floor skimming IYSWIM…

Get the slit stitches up?

Smartiepants79 · 18/09/2024 21:36

Have you looked into places that do modest clothing. Because that’s what it sounds like you’re after?

IPoopRainblows · 18/09/2024 21:37

Reiss freya mostly fits the brief but not sure if it’s still available

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 18/09/2024 21:47

Thank you but not long enough, not keen on the giant seams either. Or the colour. Otherwise great 😂

Have had a look, but haven’t been able to find a wool/natural fabric one…

Look what I found on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1344066994/knitted-merino-wool-sweater-dress-knit?ref=share_v4_lx

Any good?

Sew up the slits, then done!

alpacachino · 18/09/2024 21:53

That has a spilt!!! It has to meet all the rules

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 18/09/2024 21:53

Itabsolutelyispossible · 18/09/2024 21:50

That’s not bad- just a bit shapeless, not keen on the ribbed part at the bottom. Thanks though.

Have you had a dress like this before OP?

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 18/09/2024 21:55

I don’t think sewing up the slits will work, unless it’s a flared skirt… I’ll fall over 😂

If you search for this dress every year with no luck have you considered going to a seamstress to get one made?

JC03745 · 18/09/2024 21:57

If you'd started knitting it 10yrs ago, you'd have a completed dress by now OP! 😆
I've been googling and shall keep searching for you.

I’ve had close- right shape and colour but not knitted. Right shape and colour, knitted but rubbed and acrylic. Right shape, colour, knit- but knee length.

I drive myself insane every year trying to look for one.
