Thanks @NoCureForLove

correction, actually they have linked the right coat as they are showing both indigo ones in the vid!

ScottishMouse · 07/09/2024 18:28

Went back and had a BIG try on today, and bought…..nothing! This is me though, not the clothes. I am finding it harder and harder to feel ok in clothes after some weight gain, it is making it hard to find things that hang as I like. But I will tell you about what I tried….
Smocked sleeve stripe shirt - tried my new normal Toast size which was a good fit except the sleeves were a bit long on me and it would obviously spoil it to roll them up, so that’s a no. (I should say I have quite short arms, the sleeves were not especially long).
Suki wool cotton seersucker trousers - these were good, but I’m not sure I am a fan of very warm trousers in these menopausal years.
Ribbed wool cardigan - really lovely, but couldn’t get the sizing right. XXS/xs was too small in the body but the sleeves in the S/M were way too long.
Cord barrel leg trousers - I thought these looked awful, shapeless and quite scruffy looking. The fabric just does not hang as well as the linen version.
Boiled wool short coat - this was almost a yes, but again sizing was not quite right. I was in between XXS/xs and S/M, the smaller one was a bit neat for much layering underneath but the bigger one made me look like I had borrowed my dad’s coat.
Macro gingham cotton cashmere dress - just too overwhelming on my short frame with the very large gingham. Lovely for someone taller. New normal size was good.
Graph check cotton cashmere dress - really lovely fabric, but the dropped waist is not good on a short busty body. Plus, does anyone else ever think that Toast are really bad at collars? I have found this on numerous shirt dresses in the past - they just do not sit quite flat or they feel like they pull slightly to one side or something. Same on this one, I tried two sizes and both had this issue.
Cotton linen twill shirt - I couldn’t figure out what I thought of this. The shape was good but I thought it needed more structure in the fabric for this style. The fabric is quite thin and drapey, which I didn’t love. Size wise, not as large as the similar asawa shirt from summer.
Textured poplin long shirt - undecided about this one. I think I am too short, but it could work over trousers on someone a little taller. The sleeves are quite wide so no good for under cardis, and the way it ties in an asymmetric way I found odd. I would prefer the ties to both be attached on the side seam, that way it could be tied to the back too which is more flattering with a bigger bust. Size wise, quite big. Perhaps size down.
So the only things I really have my eye on are the navy ribbed wool cashmere snood, which they didn't have in store, and a pair of flower mountain trainers. Which is good for my wallet but a little disappointing for my hopes of lovely new autumn things.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 07/09/2024 19:40

That was a big trying on session @ScottishMouse ! Really interesting feedback, thank you.
My cotton linen twill shirt was despatched yesterday but I’m not expecting it until Tuesday. I ordered the M as I thought it was smaller than the asawa, and I have that in a S. I shall report back.
I've also got the Chambray shirt coming, I didn’t get around to ordering it before my holiday and now the M has sold out, so I’m hoping the S will fit.

AmethystMoonShine · 07/09/2024 22:25

Thank you for your trying on feedback @ScottishMouse I’ve had my eye on the macro gingham dress.
I’m hoping to get to a store next week so I may try it on as I’m a little taller than you I think. Probably better to decide for sure than dither for weeks/months!
I have just received the black sturlini boots and love them. Need to try on with socks though to check for rubbing. Desperately hoping they are comfy.
Also concerned that if they are comfy that I’ll be tempted to order one of the new colours in the longer style… the route to financial ruin 😖

oddandelsewhere · 07/09/2024 23:42

@ScottishMouse What helpful information! I was mildly interested in the large check dress too, but didn't order mostly because I suspected that the pattern would overwhelm me . So I don't think there's anything for me really, I don't like to wear too many layers, they make me feel untidy.
So far for winter I've only bought some Oska cords which fit me better than Toast ones, but I'm waiting for a sea salt knitted waistcoat to arrive which I think will be useful.
Will there be a bit of a sale this month do you think?

IlovePond · 07/09/2024 23:59

Thanks for the feedback @ScottishMouse - I too am fancying a snood!

Snowyowl78 · 08/09/2024 08:13

@AmethystMoonShine i have the Sturlini boots in dark brown from Dec last year and i am pretty sure they are exactly the same as these new black ones. Can confirm they are very comfy, for me at least. I’ve also ordered the black ones! However, I bought another pair of brown Sturlini Chelsea boots last year and they’re really tight still, even after a lot of wear, sadly. So I don’t think they can all be relied upon for the same fit.

Countmeout · 08/09/2024 09:11

Goodness @ScottishMouse thank you that was very comprehensive. I am going to order the textured poplin long shirt to experiment with it and see if it works, I was going to order 2 sizes but after your useful information I’m going to try just 1.

I have a very similar snood bought in M and S years ago. Not sure if I still have it - shows you should never throw things out. I’ll have to have a hunt.

AmethystMoonShine · 08/09/2024 09:40

@Snowyowl78 thats helpful to know, thank you. Yes the black are I think the same as the dark brown of last year. I wish I’d got those!
The new tan and green ones are longer and so you’re right, may not fit the same.
They are beautiful quality though aren’t they? Expensive but I think a case of get what you pay for as the soles seem robust too…. Which I need!

Snowyowl78 · 08/09/2024 09:54

@AmethystMoonShine you could always check with CS if they have any brown ones? Sometimes they have old stock waiting for the next sale. I managed to get a sold out jumpsuit from the kings road branch last week, so pleased with that!

Oooh I hadn’t thought of that @Snowyowl78 ….. good idea! Thank you

Snowyowl78 · 08/09/2024 10:09

Does anyone know have they ever done a wool Gabi? Or something similarly suitable for the winter office? I was hoping they might produce some for the new drop, but there is only the new cords.

Countmeout · 08/09/2024 10:35

Yes there’s some on eBay @Snowyowl78

Morning all, I was sorting through my cupboard this morning with a view to putting away summer things and found a very large dead moth in there. Once I’d stopped screaming in horror, I remembered some of you had great anti moth recommendations back in the day.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

applecatchers36 · 08/09/2024 12:45

Snowyowl78 yes I have some wool Gabis and wear them a lot in winter, comfy and smart

OftenOrange · 08/09/2024 13:55

Just a shout out for a bargain on Reworn, this block print dress which was recommended to me here , by I think @mizu , is one of my most treasured sale buys . I think the original price was over £150 and it’s on for £46 in a medium.
It’s such a divine print and colour, quite oversized in the body yet neatish on shoulders and bust . The cotton is quite light so it’s cool and floaty .

Snowyowl78 · 08/09/2024 14:47

@applecatchers36 @Countmeout thanj you! I will keep an eye out for them secondhand

mizu · 08/09/2024 14:53

@OftenOrange oh yes! Still have mine and it's still as lovely as ever: print and colour!

Such an easy throw on dress. Glad you've been happy with yours.

ScottishMouse · 08/09/2024 15:38

Oh no, @IlovePond We have had a horrendous time with moths for the last while, but I think I might finally be winning the battle. Here is what I have done:
Hoovered out all drawers and wardrobes (remove clothes first obvs).
Went through all woollens and check for larvae.
Put woollens in the freezer for 1-2 weeks (to be fair, I have not done them all yet, as this takes a while unless you have a chest freezer).
I then put pheromone traps bought on Amazon by the Manchester Mothmen around the place.
And then, and this is controversial and a bit weird, but it really worked ….I bought the microscopic wasps: https://dragonfli.co.uk/products/clothes-moth-egg-sachets?_pos=2&_sid=5a7aa0dad&_ss=r

Good luck!

Thanks @OftenOrange - I've just bought the cornflower dress! Will be perfect for our holiday in a couple of weeks.

Poplinskirt · 08/09/2024 17:06

If it was a big moth I don't think you need to worry @IlovePond
It's teeny little ones that eat clothes

However I do the freezer, things in mothproof bags and traps just in case

Am terribly excited about AW things
I just hate the heat and love this mellow time of year.

That's disappointing about those cords@ScottishMouse
I'm going to try the pleat front ones and full length Annie's
I love that navy yoke sweater and those little wool bandanas and the socks!

ScottishMouse · 08/09/2024 17:19

You should try them anyway @Poplinskirt, they may work better for you.

IlovePond · 08/09/2024 17:40

Thanks @Poplinskirt and @ScottishMouse - I have ordered some moth stuff🙀

Countmeout · 09/09/2024 11:01

so the woolly bandana has arrived-all 3 colours- it’s bigger and thicker than the one from Scotland @ScottishMouse , sorry can’t remember the makers name. Nice cross cross pattern.

The neutral colour is grim on me. Quite fawn.
The green is very dark grey green to my eye but the Ember orangey shade is perfect. Looks great with a number of things I have.
