New thread. Woke (blooming cat) to find it’s nearly full.

I’ve got the brown slate cords, which I have worn a lot. For some reason I didn’t get on with the other cord Gabis and sold the pear, the mineral blue and the navy pair. I am slightly regretting my big clear out now we’re moving into autumn!

Countmeout · 05/09/2024 08:18

@Snowyowl78 yes! That one. I thought for layering, just not sure how it would fit into my lifestyle. I live in quite a sedate village.(for the most part - there is one other Toastie style person but I think some of her things may be Olive)

I was making a list - I think my top priority is going to be the cashmere roll neck, I have the cords in cement and pear but I find the pear difficult to get on with colour wise. I would like the green. Hoping someone will pop into a shop and investigate the sizing compared to those I have.

Thankfully none of the dresses are calling me except the cotton linen twill one which I think is the one possibly @ScottishMouse mentioned, although it seems out of season to me.

I like the Matching shirt shown with that dress @Countmeout . I was hoping it would be a similar shape to the Asawa shirt but I can see it only has 4 buttons as compared to 5 on the asawa. I often find shirts with fewer buttons tend to gape on me. I will probably try it though.

ScottishMouse · 05/09/2024 08:30

Yes, that’s the one @Countmeout. Season-wise, it probably depends on the weight of the fabric, although I am happy to layer lighter weight dresses in autumn and winter. I really like the shirt in the same fabric, would be great worn as a jacket.

I am also intrigued by that long shirt. If you watch the video, it looks like it doesn’t open all the way down though, which I thought made it look a little less versatile in terms of layering perhaps.

IlovePond · 05/09/2024 14:59

I like that top/tunic/dress @Snowyowl78 - but at 5’4” with short legs, it would definitely be a dress on me! I might try it next time I am instore.

Snowyowl78 · 05/09/2024 17:06

@IlovePond keep me posted! Sometimes ‘shirts’ like that are super long but then have really high splits on the side so you can’t wear them as a dress!

looking forward to the live tomorrow!

IlovePond · 05/09/2024 21:03

That would be a bit too daring @Snowyowl78 😹will do - hoping to get to a shop soon!

ScottishMouse · 06/09/2024 08:51

I need to be held back from going to try on the reversible coat. I cannot spend that much on a coat, but it is so beautiful. Tell me why a wool inside (I would likely mostly wear it with the cotton outside) is a bad idea folks?

Snowyowl78 · 06/09/2024 08:57

@ScottishMouse are you thinking it would be a bad idea because it would be itchy? It is beautiful. Bit of a lack of pictures of the wool side, I could hardly make it out! I would say if you’re in a winter coat you’re likely to be also wearing a long sleeved top so not much surface area of itchiness? You’ll be able to check this when you go try it on anyway! For reference, I bought one of their very expensive winter coats in the sale, and it was pretty much half price. Risky though if it’s popular.

Sunnydaysarehereonceagain · 06/09/2024 09:06

Long time lurker on this thread and lover of (lots) of things Toast. So much so that I qualified as Kindred recently, which probably means that I should be looking to reign-in my spending a bit 🤣. Just to say that I love the look of the reversible wool coat. Love the colour and the idea of the adaptability, but, at that price I’d need it to be waxed or at least shower-proof cotton. Having said that, there’s no hood, so I. Not sure???? Should anyone be in store soon, please could you look and report back? I’ll probably need to order online, so need a bit more info. Thanks 😊

ScottishMouse · 06/09/2024 09:13

Yes, itchiness @Snowyowl78 but also wondering whether the wool side would end up pilled and looking a bit crap quite quickly if always rubbing off whatever was worn underneath the coat.
I liked the idea of it as an autumn, spring, early winter coat as I don’t have one, and the colour and style I think would go with everything. But I’m not sure if the wool lining would also make it too warm to be very useful for much beyond winter.
And yes @Sunnydaysarehereonceagain how it would hold up in the rain is important. I am happy with no hood as I find them a faff and have very very short hair so don’t need to protect my head so much, but it would be no good if the cotton side let rain through to the wool side.
I am afraid to try it in case I love it. I could risk waiting for a sale, but I would need to know sizing, which means I need to try it, which means I might fall in love and not want to wait. Oh dear.

Countmeout · 06/09/2024 09:14

I thought when I first saw the picture of the coat @ScottishMouse that it was a raincoat( not unlike previous versions) possibly waxed and was surprised it was reversible. Hard to know if it is quite thick because it is.
I agree @Sunnydaysarehereonceagain (welcome) it would have to be all singing all dancing for the price.

I am 5’4” too @IlovePond . I wondered it if would work over leggings. Although not sure I could actually do much when the sleeves are so wide and hangy iykwim.

Good point @Countmeout ! Might be visiting a Toast next week, so will have a look if do.

ScottishMouse · 06/09/2024 12:14

Reporting back on the reversible coat. I was passing not far from Toast on my way somewhere this morning and popped in. No time to try anything or take a very good look at new stock, but I needed to get the reversible coat out of my head. And I have. It is a thing of great beauty in real life. The cotton side feels like sturdy twill and the colour is chef’s kiss, the wool is a beautiful charcoal. But, the two main problems for me were the length - at 5’2” I would need it to be 2-4 inches shorter - and the weight - it felt so heavy on, in terms of warmth, but also so felt weighed down by it.
So thankfully a no for me. I would say that if you are thinking about it, size down.

BettinaInDenmark · 06/09/2024 16:40

I succumbed to the "new in" lure...

Franca Cotton Seersucker Gingham Dress, Irregular Check Print Ties Front Dress, and Gaby cords in seaweed are travelling towards Denmark.

IlovePond · 06/09/2024 16:54

Sounds lovely @BettinaInDenmark - let us know what they are like.

Countmeout · 06/09/2024 18:46

I will be interested to hear how you find the sizing of the cord Gabis @BettinaInDenmark .

i have watched the live briefly, what did you think of the long shirt @IlovePond ? I would have liked to see it by itself. I thought if I was going to try it I would go for cream but just wondering if the ink might be more useful.

At least they showed the reversible coat both ways. Thanks for the information on your visit @ScottishMouse . look forward to hearing more when you are able to make a longer visit.

OP posts:
IlovePond · 06/09/2024 19:32

I quite liked it @Countmeout - but Ink for me - I can’t be trusted with cream!

Sunnydaysarehereonceagain · 06/09/2024 19:47

Thanks for your comments re the reversible coat @ScottishMouse. I saw a review on the Toast website earlier saying that the coat isn’t waterproof, so that, together with what you have said has (thankfully for my bank balance) put paid to any plans to purchase. I already have a Toast waxed cotton raglan anorak and a twill duffle coat, so I really don’t need another coat….. that reversible one is so lovely to look at though ……

mizu · 06/09/2024 21:20

@ScottishMouse oh that coat! The most loveliest thing on the website at the moment.

@Sunnydaysarehereonceagain yes, noted that review. And for that price!!!!

Definitely need more pics of the wool side.

I've signed up already to a TOAST evening exchange in October which I'm hoping after initially being annoyed with the early eve time, will be a more relaxed affair with maybe drinks and snacks and lots of swaps. I have 2 vouchers from a previous event.

With both daughters at uni then 🥲 I'll probably be hanging around there for the whole 2 hours!

NoCureForLove · 07/09/2024 10:09

I have seen this coat of which you speak, in the wild.

I don't like it! It's very heavy for a start. The cotton side is a rather weird colour - a bit yellow rather than stone? And I just thought rather impractical - neither one thing or another. No good as a Mac - not even showerproof and a bit of a weird and bulky coat.

But it's getting a lot of love on here!

Snowyowl78 · 07/09/2024 11:08

The new coat is on the live! It looks grey inside? I thought it was green.

i really like all the Isobel Harvey shirts and dresses. Although the print i really like it 100% silk so a bit of a washing nightmare.

Snowyowl78 · 07/09/2024 11:13

I really like this coat shown in the live. it looks very wearable indeed. I think it’s the same material as the short wool navy coat they did last year.
in the live they have linked the wrong coat and it should be this one:
www.toa.st/collections/womens-coats-jackets/products/indigo-cotton-wool-pea-coat-indigo

NoCureForLove · 07/09/2024 11:21

The reversible coat is dark grey flannel inside.
