New thread. Woke (blooming cat) to find it’s nearly full.

@Netcam thanks, I’m waiting on the green patchwork one which I think may also be rather billowy at the back

celeste031 · 05/10/2024 12:59

@lordloveadog That blue dress gorgeous! love the blue. Have been looking through the 'New In' section and quite a lot of solid pieces with autumnal colours. I had my eye on that dress as I have one in a similar silhouette and it skims the body perfectly, as well as some of the new coats...but does anyone else think they're crazy expensive? I know good coats set you back a bit, but at £600?! https://www.toa.st/collections/womens-coats-jackets/products/navy-wool-hooded-coat-dark-navy

I don't understand why they make them like that, surely nobody is actually that shape?

Yes, gorgeous, but no to £600. Especially as it's 50% cotton and dry clean only.

@Netcam Weighing in on that green shirt, I love that flared out shape and think it suits you well , side on as well as frontal!
I do know what you mean about sticking out , I felt the same but once I accepted it as part of the aesthetic I’ve found it quite liberating . The cap sleeve pale chambray shirt from last season is a case in point .
I know you’re going to return , but just saying!

Thanks! It is a kind of interesting look, great you can embrace it, it's just not quite 'me'. And I'm trying hard to only keep things I really like, because I just won't wear them if I don't.

Let us all know how you get on. I saw that in the sale too and thought it looked quite interesting, I was tempted.

Snowyowl78 · 05/10/2024 19:31

@Netcam will do!

PeonyBlush10 · 05/10/2024 20:04

Has anyone tried on/bought the new grey herringbone wool coat? I think it is gorgeous in the online pics. Interested to know what it’s like in real life.

DD1 has my wool Promenade coat from 2004, ish, DD2 has the red twill 2007 Promenade.
For many years they got a poor, once a year airing due to the difference in my real lifestyle and the my imaginary one from the catalogue. I did wear to pieces the waxed cotton version, that seemed to handle the reality of mud.
I bloody loved that single buttoned, high V neck, tailored cut.

Look out for students, striding around cities in retro Toast!

mizu · 06/10/2024 08:34

@TosstTastic ah love that! I've got DD1 who quite likes TOAST, especially the jumpers but DD2 who wouldn't go near it!

mizu · 06/10/2024 08:36

Popped into TOAST yesterday to look at the Xmas bits and pillow cases and jumpers and bought my sis some of the paper chains for her birthday. Such great colours. I've got some from a few years ago but not as nice as these.

Depends on how much you think you'll love it and how much you'll wear it. Or if you're willing to wait to see if you can get it in the sale. Looks like great fabric.

I only ever buy anything full price if I think I'll absolutely adore it and would be so disappointed if I missed out.

Otherwise I'll keep it on a wish list and stalk the end of season sales. That's why nearly all my clothes are sale purchases. And I tend to buy winter clothes in January and summer clothes in September.

But not everyone is like this and I can understand why. I just think quality clothes have got so expensive these days. But I only really like quality clothes in natural fabrics and don't have a massive budget.

ScottishMouse · 06/10/2024 17:08

I am the same @netcam - I like good quality natural fabrics but don’t always have the budget to match. But I am terrible at buying out of season. It took me a long time to realise this. I would end up selling on things bought in a sale at the wrong time of year. I am trying to be mindful of this, and this last sale all I kept was a basket.

ScottishMouse · 06/10/2024 17:16

I just went to have a browse at the new things in store, and nothing grabbed me apart from the British wool sweater in Rowan. It’s the same as last year’s humbug one, although I felt the sizing was much bigger. I didn’t buy as the wool is too itchy for me. Nothing else interested me enough to even try on, which is unusual.
I then went next door to Dicks - highly recommend if you are in Edinburgh (lots of beautiful but insanely priced things, but also some more Toast like prices if you look around) - and bought a pair of Labo Art navy cord trousers that are somewhere between Alixes and Gabis, but for me a better cut than both, and two Harley of Scotland jumpers. Harley make the absolute best knitwear out there in my opinion, and these were both cheaper than the Toast sweater too.
Not really sure what my point is, I’m finding it odd to be veering away from Toast as it has been my go to for so long. Maybe I’ll veer back round though. I’ll be sticking around here in any case.

Countmeout · 06/10/2024 17:59

I have bought winter coats out of season. I think £600 plus is too much. Mind you ordinary places , Cos, Aligne, Hush, etc are all selling coats circa £300 and some have polyester in them. I said I’d never buy one with polyester again after one I had went ball-y. Margaret Howell is twice the price of Toast .
A ‘good’ coat is becoming a luxury item.

Brackenfield · 06/10/2024 20:12

Re coats, I really like Seasalt albeit they are usually a wool/polyester mix, mine has worn well though. Much more reasonable price (sub £200) and they have an outlet on ebay which has some good bargains.

Poplinskirt · 06/10/2024 20:28

I have a favorite Harley sweater in duck egg blue from there.
Tbh I found the Edinburgh Toast rather unwelcoming .
Trousers look great@ScottishMouse but on the website they are a 26 inch leg and I'm 31 to my ankle so sadly not for me
Dicks do make Toast look bargainous!

ScottishMouse · 06/10/2024 20:31

Ha ha @Poplinskirt , I am going to have to take the trousers up about 3 inches!

Popplebop · 06/10/2024 21:06

I don’t know if any of you have seen the Carrier company clothes https://www.carriercompany.co.uk/. I now have three pairs of their Dutch trousers and have just ordered the cropped wool jumper in the lilac. They have quite a few lovely wool jumpers that are very Toast. Clothing made in Norfolk mostly (not sure about the jumpers) and they have info on where the material comes from etc. Not a huge selection but what is there might work for some of us. In terms of recent Toast purchases I have only bought the cashmere half sleeve jumper in the orange/burnt ember. No sale items for me for the first time in years.

Poplinskirt · 06/10/2024 21:11

ScottishMouse · 06/10/2024 20:31

Ha ha @Poplinskirt , I am going to have to take the trousers up about 3 inches!

🤣🤣🤣
This is why I think Toast need to do differing lengths!

PeonyBlush10 · 06/10/2024 21:12

I spied a beautiful jumper in Dick’s - £935,
so I moved over to
accessories. Spotted a beautiful scarf -
£500 …
Felt more comfortable in Toast next door.

ScottishMouse · 06/10/2024 21:16

😆 @PeonyBlush10 yeah there are certainly some ridiculous prices there. But if you know what brands to stick to, there are some more reasonable things too - Harley, Labo Art, Merz B Schwanen and some others. They also do a good archive sale in store once a year, but I can’t remember when.

ScottishMouse · 06/10/2024 21:20

@Popplebop I’d not come across Carrier Company before, thanks for the tip. Some of their sweaters look very much like Harley - they knit for other brands too, the Mimi Berry sweaters this season are also Harley.
