New thread. Woke (blooming cat) to find it’s nearly full.

Thanks for the info @Countmeout

Morning all, I have decided I want a Toast coat - preferably something like the rust/black check but without the huge dart at the back.

Re: Sale - my DSis reckons Toast will throw a curve ball and start it this Tuesday, (I seem to recall them doing this once quite recently!)

I think that if a sale doesn’t come this week then we might not be getting one until Xmas. I do wish Toast weren’t so secretive about sale dates; it makes it quite hard to decide what/when/if to buy things!

OftenOrange · 22/09/2024 13:35

The orange and black houndstooth coat seems to be identical in cut to the green one last year.
I’ve been really happy with it, there isn’t a dart at the back , just a deep vent which can be closed by buttons ; I hate fussy darts and such and can assure you it looks great on with clean simple lines.
The issue was on the shoulder where there are very small darts and I found that when hanging the coat it’s crucial to use a suitably curved coat hanger and to align the coat so that the weight of it doesn’t create a pointy bit
It just means being a bit careful but well worth it!

AubrieDog · 22/09/2024 13:43

Dammit. I really shouldn't have looked at that coat.🙄

Gamulay556 · 22/09/2024 14:14

Thanks for the new thread

IlovePond · 22/09/2024 14:30

Ah yes @OftenOrange - I thought I was using the wrong word-thanks! Buttons sound much better - I will look again.

oddandelsewhere · 22/09/2024 15:03

@IlovePond I think your sister might be right, didn't we have a sale recently which started just when there was a drop of new clothes?

When I was in a shop last week one of the assistants said that there would be more new clothes before the end of the month.

IlovePond · 22/09/2024 15:04

Ooh @oddandelsewhere - sounds promising!

faustina · 22/09/2024 15:25

@IlovePond - oh I would love it if your sister were right. I think at one point they used to send a folded up piece of paper with all the things in the sale (inc prices), and the date it would start. So useful!

I was fed up with waiting last week and ordered two pairs of trousers which I'd meant to buy for ages - the wax green gabis and the lovely check alixes. As they haven't even been despatched yet, in the unlikely event that they're reduced on Tuesday I'm fairly sure Toast will honour the reduction

@IlovePond - if you have a coat-eating dog, is it wise to buy a really really lovely one from Toast? That's a bit living on the edge 😄

IlovePond · 22/09/2024 15:39

You’re so right @faustina . But I keep looking at the ghastly brick red bargain quilted thing that I got from M&S to replace my lovely eaten one and am shuddering at the thought of wearing it 😹

It fits beautifully, keeps me warm, looks truly awful, (and I say this as someone who is absolutely a fan of some of Marks’ nicer things). Basically, it was in the sale with 60% off for a reason…

I have started hiding things from DDog in the back room, but it is starting to look like a junk room in there and things are reaching critical mass so that’s not a long term solution 😿

faustina · 22/09/2024 15:45

@IlovePond - you need a coat cupboard!

IlovePond · 22/09/2024 15:54

I do @faustina - but instead it’s an open rail in the hall, (hence coat gate!)

Here’s the furry perp atm, looking like butter wouldn’t melt!

Meanwhile, I have been wafting around in my blue floral Toast gown today as I will be putting it away for winter soon and wanted one last waft! I want one of the velvet gowns, but it’s a lot to spend for something to wear inside only!

faustina · 22/09/2024 16:03

Oh he is lovely! And that is clearly not a dog capable of such a crime. Are you sure it wasn't just very niche intruders with a coat grudge? 😃

IlovePond · 22/09/2024 16:08

😹😹😹@faustina he was caught red-pawed by our pet camera (unless it was his body double from round the corner…)

AubrieDog · 22/09/2024 16:29

What a gorgeous dog @IlovePond Such beautifully plush fur, so was perhaps just emphasising the point that your Toast coat was made from inferior materials...😉

IlovePond · 22/09/2024 16:32

😹@AubrieDog

mizu · 22/09/2024 16:48

Hoping they put the indigo cotton twill dress in the sale again. I'm watching one on eBay but the seller hasn't answered a question from me so cannot buy......what a lovely dog, looks like he's good as gold. My sister's dog is the same though, looks adorable but has done some terrible things 😁

I have brought jumpers down from the attic and am wearing my absolute favourite that I could never sell.

IlovePond · 22/09/2024 16:51

Thanks @mizu

That’s a beautiful jumper!

I agree it would be nice to see that dress in the sale, (or indeed, just see a sale…)

Hi, hope it's on to join in here? I think I've posted a few times over the years but I name change a lot...

I've been doing my autumn/winter sort out and, as usual, am dithering over a few lovely Toast items that haven't been worn yet (I buy mostly secondhand, and sell on if I don't wear them enough).

I have a real weakness for dresses and wool jumpers, but rarely seem to wear my nice ones! (And I live in fear of moths getting to my jumpers - I do store them carefully but still...)

I did recently buy a brown sweatshirt which I anticipate getting a lot of use this year.

TodayThisName · 23/09/2024 09:25

@mizu - that jumper is gorgeous! 😍

AbstractThought · 23/09/2024 10:17

Hi Toasties!

Can any of you advise me about the Gabi cords?
I am 5'4 so the length looks great, but I am concerned about the rise. In the reviews one person said the length of the crotch was enormous.

Are these difficult to wear?
I can't imagine which top style would go with them, as something cropped would show off the baggy elastic which isn't great.

Anyone have these, and how do you style them?
I really love the style, just concerned about the waist.

TodayThisName · 23/09/2024 11:36

I have tried the Gabi cords a few times (I really wanted to like them) and had exactly that problem - the crotch was low and they made my bum look very long!

I would imagine it depends quite a lot on body shape and perhaps height - I have seen them look great on other people. I am a little bit shorter than you. (This also means that cropped ankle grazers often hit me at just the wrong place, and just look like my trousers are too short!)

faustina · 23/09/2024 11:43

@AbstractThought I have the cord gabis in dark pear and I don't find the crotch low at all (I'm the same height as you). I don't really wear them much though because I found they didn't hold their shape and very quickly just ended up looking baggy, but not in a good way. My cotton gabis are much nicer and don't do that. As for what I wear them with - usually a mid length jumper - I don't tend to tuck things in so just loose. Hope that helps. Maybe try some on?

OrangeyLemon · 23/09/2024 12:48

I have the Gabi cords in a putty/stone colour. I love the colour and the quality of the fabric so I do wear them, although I think they look a bit like jodhpurs on me- too big in the thigh and a bit clingy on the calf (I don't think I have big calves..) If I sit down they ride up and don't come down to my ankles again without help! I'm 5ft7ish and the crotch is fine. I don't tuck because it doesn't look right with these trousers somehow.
