Wedding outfit for reluctant teen

Would love some ideas for my 17 year old daughter to wear to a family wedding. She thinks she needs to wear a dress as the other teen girls will be (including her sister). The others are all wearing pale blue or green maxi fitted bodycon dresses. She has an hourglass figure and it is very difficult to find styles that suit her. Anything that fits her round the waist does not fit her bust or hips. It is this Saturday. She is very reluctant to look or go shopping and I am feeling stuck.
Any ideas would be gratefully received. Thank you

If she’s an hourglass, a 50s style Collectif or British Retro dress would probably suit her.

This. I wouldn’t call a bodycon dress appropriate for a wedding anyway

Thank you, some lovely dresses. Unfortunately none are suitable because of the bust sizes. Any that have a tailored bust are always far too small. The gorgeous 1 shoulder or halter style wouldn't work as she needs a bra - she is a 32 G but a size 10 waist. Just taken her out again and it is really tricky. Argghh

Why not go for a plus size dress, that can be tied or clinched at the waist?

Or maybe this kind of shape would work?

mitogoshi · 22/07/2024 19:38

Dolly and dotty have styles that fit hour glass figures

Runbunny · 22/07/2024 19:39

What would she normally wear on a night out?

I hate seeing people dressed up for a wedding in things they wouldn't normally wear, it's like they're in fancy dress. IMO much better to find a posher version of the shapes they'd normally wear, in more wedding colours.

Failing that look on Vinted for pepperberry size 10 really or super curvy. They stopped in 2021 but were my go to for my f cups!

This is exactly what I was about to say. It would be perfect

If you’re a size 10 then a plus size dress is going to be at least a 16 and will be like a tent on her! The shoulders and depth will all be wrong.

How about a slightly rockabilly style? Always suits curves!

Thank you for all the creative ideas. Am scouring vinted and Yumi now. Bless her it's so tricky for her to find clothes. She hardly has anything for anything as she refuses to shop!

I am a similar shape and often end up in the dreaded wrap dress. They really do look better on me. There are loads available from the usual places but you don't tend to see them in the shops, a silk or fine cotton wrap could be what she needs.

Alternatively would she consider a trouser suit? Many colours available and age can wear a body or silk cami underneath, a teen at a recent wedding wore a beautiful blue-Grey textured one and looked incredible amongst all the samey dresses.

Bohoboo · 22/07/2024 20:38

Love the idea of a trouser suit and cami but she is very set against this - even though I keep showing her some lovely options. Unfortunately anything that seems to work for her figure is less suited to teens. She knows she needs to be in photos with her sister and cousins which is currently causing great distress. It's so sad to see.

Am investigating wrap dresses. Thank you
