Wedding outfit for reluctant teen

Bohoboo · 22/07/2024 17:36

Would love some ideas for my 17 year old daughter to wear to a family wedding. She thinks she needs to wear a dress as the other teen girls will be (including her sister). The others are all wearing pale blue or green maxi fitted bodycon dresses. She has an hourglass figure and it is very difficult to find styles that suit her. Anything that fits her round the waist does not fit her bust or hips. It is this Saturday. She is very reluctant to look or go shopping and I am feeling stuck.
Any ideas would be gratefully received. Thank you

Stop posting clothes for old women!

I wouldn’t have been seen dead in pepper berry and I’m in my fifties. And absolutely no to palazzo pants and old lady wrap dresses or anything from marks and spencer.

I'll just repeat: It's not my style" and "it's too old/young for me" are phrases that large-busted women and girls do not get the luxury of uttering.

The girl is 32G and size 10. Not DD or E like I often see posting "yeah, I'm size 12 34E, I get it" but G, three-to-four inches and three-to-four dress sizes bigger at front-top than a DD or E. She, like me and the rest of us very full-busted women, is condemned to a lifetime of trawling the shops just to find something that fits, tears of despair in fitting rooms when trying to buy interview suits, and ordering basic items like t-shirts and day dresses from international suppliers like Urkiye.

I’m a 34 GG and would t wear loads of that and I’m ancient. There are plenty options

So why can't I find them?

GoldFrame · 23/07/2024 15:39

I don’t know! I have so many clothes, the only thing I really don’t do is button up shirts

I require shirts that take a tie for a hobby group's uniform I have to wear and they are the hardest things to find.

I cannot find dresses nor jackets either. Bravissimo were the first people to do a dress or jacket I could wear.

GoldFrame · 23/07/2024 16:26

Shirts are just impossible. I see characters on tv have their shirts taken in at the waist to deal with this!

I tend to wear stretchy things to accommodate bust but not look huge. I got a really lovely dress in Tesco yesterday with stretch smocking at the back which works a treat. Cotton with a square neck, lovely print. (This is for @MaidOfAle , not the 17 year old!) in fact the supermarkets in general are worth a look

BaronessBomburst · 23/07/2024 16:38

I found Bravissimo/ Pepperberry to be too low cut. Most of their dresses gave me a cleavage you could park a bicycle in. NSFW.
I've never tried their jackets though.

I’m a 30H, with a small waist and wider hips, and really don’t recognise this. The only restriction I find is that I absolutely need to wear a proper bra, no strapless styles so no strappy tops/one shoulder things. I know what suits me, and it’s not wrap dresses or 50s cosplay styles.

PrinciCrackers · 23/07/2024 17:47

I am 26 GG and no strapless bras work for me. My chest measurement is too small. Same for swimwear and sports wear. I would love to be more in proportion all over.

Shirt dresses are an impossible dream.

I used to cry when younger. But in my fifties I deal with it. My daughter has no boobs and I envy her!

I had forgotten about them. They've only got Naomi, Camille, and Harper in stock in the dresses, but red Naomi might work, it's got the desired bodycon effect. They also have absolutely killer satin corset-style tops to team with a skirt or palazzos.

Amazing. Great to know about this company. Thank you

Found it!

Fabulous with heels and a clutch.
(Do 17 year olds wear heels?)

Cute. She would wear heels!

Apparently wrap dresses and A line dresses are best for women with an hourglass figure.

Bohoboo · 23/07/2024 11:38

Thank you, yes think this is where we will end up heading. I have ordered a couple which aren't quite right but need to do another one. Love the brown one. Will investigate a strapless bra but that is a whole other stressful event for her - fuuuun

She will struggle to find a bodycon dress that fits her properly if she has a very big bust and small waist.

GoldFrame · 23/07/2024 18:37

For @MaidOfAle i wear River Island men’s muscle fit t shirts now - nicked one off my son and they’re great. Neck not too high and nice material

Bohoboo · 23/07/2024 18:44

Thank you everyone. I am taking her shopping on my day off tomorrow. There is a Quiz we can look in and plenty of other high street stores to try separates and dresses. Failing that will be doing some frantic next day delivery options tomorrow evening. It's been useful to understand styles that work for others with a similar figure.

I gave up with supermarkets a few years ago when bust darts disappeared and dropped sleeves on everything came in, preventing lab coats and cardigans from going over the shirt without the torso fabric rucking up and the sleeves being pulled up my arms. My work shirts are going bobbly and I can't find replacements.

I've never found that supermarket dresses have bust shaping and the shirred dress I bought from Tesco last year went to the charity shop because it wasn't tall enough in the bodice and made me look pregnant.

Would this work - its cut on the bias so more room in all the right places, has straps, loads of different colours & maxi style like the others girls

Those bust seams will be halfway up OP's DD's tits. Empire line dresses don't work for the large of nork.

MessyNDepressy · 23/07/2024 20:13

Maybe something like this so she can buy the top and skirt separately? Hope you find something she loves!

As a JJ (and was DD cup at 14) I sympathise.

Apart from Taideux I recommended above, there are some women on Instagram she might find helpful to follow.

And, although I do find clothes shopping pretty annoying, I also have a wardrobe full of lovely clothes so it is possible! Without 50s cosplay.

I find Oliver Bonas often has styles that fit me well so that's probably worth a look.

Also I just remembered Pour Moo! Lots of clothes that all fit me when I did an order from there. Amazing.
