Wedding dress for a chilly Yorkshire wedding? With pics

Hi S&B, posted in Weddings but reposting here for traffic.
I'm getting married in March, not August as originally planned! We got a sooner slot at the town hall (small wedding and informal dinner afterwards).

Here are pics of my bargain wedding dress that I love, but no good for March! 10 degrees average temp here at that time of year. If this is my style, please would you suggest a dress/ outfit for a chillier wedding?

It's really difficult to see what that dress is like, and therefore to work out your style. Personally 10 degrees wouldn't make me change my outfit, I'd wear a nice coat on top of it for outside and wear the dress in the registry office and at the meal?

It is a bodycon mini? Or a floaty midi?

Here are some examples of what I'd consider wearing, for different styles. If you tell us what you like and dislike it might help (and also a budget).

Maids to Measure

Nasty Gal

Ghost

I’d keep the dress but get a nice smart coat for outside. I got married in a knee length sleeveless dress in December, just put on a coat for moving between venues

Thanks I love that Ghost one!

It's a floaty midi dress in the pics I shared.

Did you wear closed shoes and tights?

A little faux fur jacket would look lovely over that.

emmaempenadas · 23/01/2024 11:07

There was a woman on here who had a silk skirt and a cashmere jumper on her wedding day and she was stunning.

Maybe a cashmere cardi or jumper?

Schoolrunmumbun · 23/01/2024 11:08

A furry or fluffy jacket over it will probably be good.

It's the tights/ shoes question that's harder. Shoes have to be flat.

Maybe this!

No tights!! It's one day and you'll mainly be inside. I think the Ghost one is lovely too. What about pointed ballet flats? Something like these or these? Even some from ASOS if you're on a budget

I'll be brave and go tightsless!
Pointed ballet flats a great idea. Maybe nude or dull gold/ bronze.

The budget is as low as possible really.

I'm getting married next month (in England!) and my dress is sleeveless, just below the knee length.

I'm wearing closed toe shoes and sheer, nude coloured tights. I've also got an ivory coloured cashmere cardigan to wear over the top. I didn't want to go for a long dress because I could imagine it getting caked in mud every time I need to walk outside for any reason. I'm also going to wear trainers to the venue and then switch to my nice shoes once I'm safely inside so the nice shoes don't get wet and muddy before the ceremony and photos.

I got married in January and had a big white pashmina shawl to wrap round my shoulders in the car. The registry office was warm and I didn't feel at all cold. Shawl back round my shoulders in the car to the hotel. I was a bit cold outside taking photos but we didn't take very many so it didn't take long. I had closed toe shoes and tights.

MillicentTheMagnificent · 23/01/2024 11:20

Agree with pps that I wouldn't really change the dress for the weather as I imagine you will be mostly indoors

A nice jacket, wrap or coat for over the top for outdoor photos and walking to car etc. The furry one you've posted would work with the dress. Kind of a 60s feel! I like it

Schoolrunmumbun · 23/01/2024 11:25

Thanks all I love this community 🤍

I've offered £12 for the furry jacket! My DD's bridesmaid dress is 2nd hand from Monsoon and was only £5.

I like the slight pink of my outfit against hers being green. Here's DD's

Will give this a gentle hand wash and iron, and maybe a new ribbon belt:

I think the fur jacket would look lovely. How about some shoes like these worn with pale tights - perhaps cream lace or polka dot if you wanted something special.

I was getting sixties vibe too. I was thinking knee high white boots and a fur jacket.

Didn't even think of boots! Great idea

These are lovely and would look fabulous with the OP’s dress and jacket.

Something like this would also be nice https://www.amazon.co.uk/COOLCEPT-Women-Vintage-Victorian-Almond/dp/B0BMPRTVBM/ref=sr_1_30?keywords=Victorian+Style+Boots&qid=1706021414&sr=8-30

bobomomo · 23/01/2024 15:01

Look on wed2be - they have some jackets that you could add to this.

bobomomo · 23/01/2024 15:02

Or a dress coat and choose closed in shoes.

My sister got married in the Lake District in January. She had a white knitted christening type shawl for the outside photos. She wore ballet pumps for the ceremony then changed into white doc martens. It looked really good.
