Wedding dress for a chilly Yorkshire wedding? With pics

Hi S&B, posted in Weddings but reposting here for traffic.
I'm getting married in March, not August as originally planned! We got a sooner slot at the town hall (small wedding and informal dinner afterwards).

Here are pics of my bargain wedding dress that I love, but no good for March! 10 degrees average temp here at that time of year. If this is my style, please would you suggest a dress/ outfit for a chillier wedding?

Oh my! It's stunning 😍

Schoolrunmumbun · 04/02/2024 10:07

I'll try the ghost one and the monsoon ones when they come and show you all. I am pretty sure the monsoon one would need shortening so unless it's absolutely amazing I won't bother with that. I do really like the ghost one, I might keep that one to wear out for a special meal on holiday/ honeymoon afterwards if it's really lovely. I doubt anything will beat the needle and thread one I feel excited to get married in that 💐

By the way... If anyone is looking for budget wedding dress ideas- there are some amazing bargains on needle and thread website right now. There was one I loved potentially more but realised it was backless- not for me.

Reduced to £78 and fabulous but spoilt for me by backlessness I think

I think the fur jacket would look lovely. How about some shoes like these worn with pale tights - perhaps cream lace or polka dot if you wanted something special.

OP just on off chance you like these shoes I have them unworn in size 6. I bought them from the very end of Zara summer sale to potentially wear as a wedding guest but went with something else. Happy to gift them to you if you might want to wear them.

Schoolrunmumbun · 04/02/2024 16:41

That's so kind @Galliano

I cannot see the pic please would you post again?

So kind to offer @Galliano, thank you. I will be in completely flat shoes or even trainers though so the heels aren't for me.

I am really touched by your offer though, thank you.

The dress looks lovely Op.

I'd just have to wear pink shoes/boots with it!

Would you be wearing the pink fur jacket with it?

Schoolrunmumbun · 04/02/2024 17:52

I am currently thinking pink trainers and a vintage denim jacket to dress it down a bit

Noooooo! It’s your wedding day, it’s not the time to dress down. Wear your fur jacket and ballet flats. That would be a terrible waste of that gorgeous dress.

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 04/02/2024 20:20

I have to say I would also wear a denim jacket with it, it's got excellent vintage vibes.

diddl · 04/02/2024 20:44

I also think that the fur jacket might look vintage with that dress.

Agree with dressing up not down!

The Monsoon wedding dress arrived. It's so lovely and absolute bargain at £75 reduced from £309.

They are so clever how they make them. (I am 5'5" by the way so middle of the range for height.) They obviously make them for an incredibly tall woman and the way the shoulders are made means you could alter the fit of the top half by taking in from the top of the shoulders and then the bottom half by taking the hem up. It would be well worth it to get a perfect fit from a high st off the peg dress.

I am currently thinking though that it's not worth the expense and hassle of alterations when I have the loaned dress to wear for free, that already fits.

I think the Needle & Thread is way way more beautiful and special.

It would surely be worth it if you prefer it though?

EveryOtherNameTaken · 07/02/2024 20:42

Wear it with a pink fur shoulder wrap and pink Dr Marten style boots.

Schoolrunmumbun · 07/02/2024 21:45

The monsoon dress with the furry jacket alongside DD's bridesmaid dress with her little furry jacket does look great.

Also I showed my mum and she said the monsoon is better too!

Also the ghost one arrived today but I haven't had time to try it on yet.

Wedding dresses are like buses, 3 came along at once!

I've had a lovely time looking at all these dresses 🙂 Vinted is so hit and miss isn't it.
The Needle and Thread dress is so beautiful, but I couldn't borrow an expensive dress for worrying!

come on op! You can be too thrifty you know! It’s your wedding some expense and effort is needed!

Schoolrunmumbun · 08/02/2024 08:36

Hehe thank you for the encouragement and pep talk! The reason for thinking about dressing down is that it's such a tiny wedding (just 6 people) and we are getting train into city and walking the reg office. I do think the needle and thread dress would look cool with a denim jacket, brand new pink or cream trainers and a bouquet.

I'll try on the ghost dress today and see what that's like.

GelatoPistacchio · 08/02/2024 10:37

I had a similar wedding OP and wore a long white gown similar to the Monsoon one and walked through the city with my bouquet and flower crown to get to the register office. Everyone was lovely and smiley as I passed, even though it was a rainy day.

I would embrace being the star of the show for one day and ignore that feeling of wanting to dress down and hide away.

From a purely selfish standpoint I would love to see photos of the other dresses. The needle and thread one is so gorgeous on you I think it will be hard to beat but I just love a wedding dress thread haha

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 08/02/2024 11:01

I think it'll look really cool dressed down!

I'll join you in that selfishness!
