Wedding dress for a chilly Yorkshire wedding? With pics

Hi S&B, posted in Weddings but reposting here for traffic.
I'm getting married in March, not August as originally planned! We got a sooner slot at the town hall (small wedding and informal dinner afterwards).

Here are pics of my bargain wedding dress that I love, but no good for March! 10 degrees average temp here at that time of year. If this is my style, please would you suggest a dress/ outfit for a chillier wedding?

Real spring flowers for the bouquets and button holes definitely! Probably pink.

Not making any promises re. trainers. I think these, vintage fitted denim jacket and a bouquet of pink spring flowers would be relaxed and elegant and cool??

The Ghost dress is gorgeous! I'm always pleased when my suggestion is chosen Grin

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I think a bride in trainers and a denim jacket (even worse - personalised! 'Mrs So and So') is the opposite of cool and relaxed now. It's overdone. The Ghost dress is so classic, you could add a nod to trends with pointed slingback or Mary Jane flats? I'd just wear a normal (but nice) winter coat, like a long camel or woollen coat and take it off for photos. A denim jacket doesn't provide any warmth anyway. The pink fur coat thing would even be better.

I will be remaining a Ms and not changing my name so danger of Mrs So and So!

I am listening about the shoes. I'll find some slightly pointy flats. Defo no heels.

Breaking my own rule (so huge apologies) but have you looked at Hope & Ivy? Off the back of a thread on here that's where I got my dress from (again a super low key ceremony and back to the local after) it was a bit long but I bought a lush beaded/ribbon belt off eBay I could 'hook it over' if that makes sense?

MamaBearsss · 09/02/2024 04:26

I agree, you can get lovely flats to go with that Ghost dress.

Okay but just for clarity, I wasn't specifically talking about you having a personalised one. Just that it's been a trend for the past 5-7 years maybe. Ditto leather jackets, again especially with the embellishment on the back.

Glad you're considering smarter shoes, I'm sure you'll find something lovely.

LuckySantangelo35 · 09/02/2024 08:15

@Schoolrunmumbun

trainers will not look good op

and as that dress had sleeves you really don’t need a coat or jacket, again won’t look right

Seaside3 · 09/02/2024 08:26

The ghost one is stunning. Pair it woth a beautiful long camel coat and some elegant shoes. It would look classic. I'd even be tempted to go wild with a little pill box hat.

diddl · 09/02/2024 09:09

I think it's a dress up rather than dress down dress!

Have you tried the pink jacket with it?

Schoolrunmumbun · 09/02/2024 10:17

I just went and enquired at a seamstress shop about getting the monsoon one altered and she said her prices start at £80 just for shortening, plus more for altering the shoulders and bodice bit. Considering the whole dress itself was only £75 seems a lot. Also I think she wanted to laugh me out of the shop when I said the wedding is next month! Haha! So I think the monsoon one is out.

What’s becoming clear is that none of these dresses is “the one” or you wouldn’t still be havering. The Ghost one is absolutely the best of the bunch, it’s elegant and classic and you might get some more wear out of it after the wedding. Aren’t you bored with this now?

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 09/02/2024 12:02

Who gets bored of wedding dress shopping @BIossomtoes 😁

BIossomtoes · 09/02/2024 12:13

Anyone who’s found “the one”. I bought mine a month before my wedding, bought the first one I tried on because I believed the mirror and the friend I was with, then ticked it off the list. The entire outfit was done in a morning. I’ve spent more time buying my MoB outfit for next week.

Cantonet · 09/02/2024 12:22

The Needle & thread dress is absolutely beautiful, but it's wearing you. The Ghost dress is nice but if you could post a picture of it ironed & with the fur jacket we would all have a better idea of how it looks.
I'm surprised you haven't thought of hiring a dress? You could hire a beautiful silk designer dress for @£40.

I have to agree, but I also get the impression that it being 'the one' maybe isn't that important to OP. Maybe budget or sustainability is the main focus? I do think OP needs to make up her mind though. I stopped contributing to the thread for a bit as I was finding it frustrating! Honestly, if budget and sustainability are the most important things - wear something you already have. If looking nice is most important - the Ghost dress is perfect. If being cool and quirky is most important - I can't help with that. I think being a cool bride is something you just are or aren't, if it needs to be planned to this degree it will look contrived.

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 09/02/2024 13:04

I think the Ghost one is boring. Sorry OP!

Verite1 · 09/02/2024 13:14

I love the needle and thread dress but you look amazing in the ghost dress. But not with trainers. I’m a trainers fan but they won’t go with that dress. Definitely needs something more delicate and elegant.

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 09/02/2024 13:40

The Ghost dress is beautiful and suits your figure far better than the N&T one.

sashh · 10/02/2024 05:18

Love the Ghost one.

Schoolrunmumbun · 10/02/2024 22:20

Thank you for all the great advice and support on this thread. It's been really fun bargain hunting and trying on lovely dresses, chatting and getting excited.

After another try on today the ghost one is indeed The One and was found and suggested by a poster on this thread so 🤍🤍 Thank You!

I'll come back in a couple of months and post some pics from the actual day. Personally I love a thread with a conclusion and also I want to show you what you helped me put together.

Thank you MN and S&B community who have been so kind.

The Ghost one shows off your figure perfectly. Have a wonderful wedding day when it comes around!

diddl · 11/02/2024 17:27

Hope you have a lovely day Op & looking forward to the pics!

Schoolrunmumbun · 27/03/2024 09:13

Thank you to everyone who patiently helped me find everything for my tiny wedding yesterday. It was absolutely perfect, everyone loved the day.
Against some of your advice I did sneak a pair of trainers just for the longish walk through town between the ceremony and the restaurant which I enjoyed wearing as well as the sparkly shoes.
