Wedding dress for a chilly Yorkshire wedding? With pics

Hi S&B, posted in Weddings but reposting here for traffic.
I'm getting married in March, not August as originally planned! We got a sooner slot at the town hall (small wedding and informal dinner afterwards).

Here are pics of my bargain wedding dress that I love, but no good for March! 10 degrees average temp here at that time of year. If this is my style, please would you suggest a dress/ outfit for a chillier wedding?

A little faux fur jacket would look lovely over that.

I thought exactly the same. You can get cream ones that would be really lovely.

puddypud · 01/02/2024 14:49

The needle and thread is gorgeous! How kind of her to offer to lend it to you. I'm invested in this. Every update has been an upgrade on the first dress. The little fur jacket is very cute too. I had an autumn wedding and wore a fur coat and felt very glamorous!

I got married in October just gone & I had a tea length dress but I had a little white fur jacket too , but I didn't even wear the jacket or feel the cold at all!

What are you going to do with the dresses you have bought but are no good? This is why I hate Vinted etc tbh because I always end up with stuff that doesn't fit me or look right and I can't sell it! For some reason no-one ever buys my relisted stuff on eBay. So in the end I might have well bought new or paid a bit more to get it right first time or be able to send things back.

The first one, I'll donate to a school that I know collects dresses and suits to give to kids who cannot afford to buy things to wear to prom. It's a young style in think a teenager might like it.

The damaged Jenny Packham I have asked for a refund!

Oh that dress is lovely-I prefer it to the JP one!

Ok. Might be worth looking online at some of the more mainstream sites with returns policies then. Otherwise you're going to find you've spent hundreds of pounds on trying all different "bargains" that aren't right.

Yes I'm a bit jaded with vinted now. I did get the fur coat for £12 and DD's bridemaid dress for £5 from there though. Also a little furry coat on the way for DD from there.

I'm also looking for a winter wedding dress. Thanks all for your ideas!!!

Maising · 02/02/2024 06:35

Love that needle and thread dress! Yes vinted is very hit and miss.

ilovesushi · 02/02/2024 13:46

You'll be fine in that dress. I got married in October and it snowed. My dress was shoulderless and had a little bit cut out the back. I was fine. I had a little jacket to wear in the car from home to church but I felt fine and we did outdoor photos before the reception. I think there is a mysterious phenomenon called 'bride heat' where you mysteriously heat to the right temperature all day. I am a very chilly person and the cold didn't bother me.

Schoolrunmumbun · 02/02/2024 14:59

@LookItsMeAgain I think it was you that suggested the Ghost midi dress the other day? It came back in stock in my size so I've ordered it as a back up! £76.

Thank you for your help.
I'll report back when I've tried the loaned needle and thread & the ghost one.

That's so kind of you! I've ended up with a pinkish fake fur jacket from vinted- I'll show a pic again. Got it for £12. This thread has made me realise I can keep my original dress and manage with jacket and closed shoes.

The plan is- train into town (DD loves the train, just 20 mins) walk or taxi to town hall depending on weather. Meet the witnesses/ guests (3 more adults) on the steps and snap pics on phones. Quick basic registry office. Walk or taxi to a restaurant (where we had our 2nd date 8 years ago) for an early dinner and drinks and taxi home. DD in bed for 8 and me and new DH relaxing at home.

This sounds bloody lovely 😁

Schoolrunmumbun · 03/02/2024 09:27

Look what just happened! Now I have 3 dresses to try!

I mean..wow.. it's pretty perfect on you. How do you feel in it?

Sybila · 03/02/2024 17:40

Wow wow wow you look stunning in that beautiful dress

clary · 03/02/2024 17:48

Just seen this thread @Schoolrunmumbun and that Needle and Thread dress is so lovely. I think your search is over. Looks so good on you

Thunderstruckbysnoring · 03/02/2024 18:27

Love love love that dress. It looks like it fits perfectly too!

Schoolrunmumbun · 03/02/2024 19:02

I love it from the side and from the back, love it less from the front.

I was standing a bit awkwardly though plus on the day I'll have a jacket and a little bouquet as well.

That dress is beautiful, OP! I want to get married all over again so I can wear it too 😂

Love the Ghost one too - perfect for a registry office - but the loaned one is really wow.

PS I got married in Jenny Packham, had no idea the brand was still popular - maybe I should list my dress somewhere!

Zebracat · 03/02/2024 21:25

Crikey , that needle and thread dress is so lovely on you.

Levithecat · 03/02/2024 22:44

Have you tried a slim belt with the needles and thread one? A beaded one might be nice. That would create a slightly better shape front on. But it is absolutely beautiful

LancaLass · 04/02/2024 01:05

Omg that dress is so gorgeous you look great! I think you're saying about the front but think that's just the photo, its pleated so might look a bit less fitted? And could be you are standing still in position to get a selfie. But it is a stunning dress and I think looks amazing on you
