Wedding dress for a chilly Yorkshire wedding? With pics

Hi S&B, posted in Weddings but reposting here for traffic.
I'm getting married in March, not August as originally planned! We got a sooner slot at the town hall (small wedding and informal dinner afterwards).

Here are pics of my bargain wedding dress that I love, but no good for March! 10 degrees average temp here at that time of year. If this is my style, please would you suggest a dress/ outfit for a chillier wedding?

I think it'll look really cool dressed down!

Your wedding day is not the day to dress down. As @GelatoPistacchio says it’s the one day to be the star of the show.

Completely agree with this sentiment - even if you are getting the train/bus/horse&cart to the wedding - you can still push the boat out (metaphorically of course, seeing as how we're discussing modes of transport to the wedding here) in relation to what you're wearing.

It is if the bride says it is @GelatoPistacchio!!

The ghost one feels special and silky and grown up. It was really hard to get decent selfies in the mirror. I think it looks nicer in real life than in the pic but here it is:

No point in sharing pics of a try on if the monsoon because it's ridiculously long on me, needs taking in at the shoulders and taking up about 10 inches. It's very classic and elegant in real life.

I prefer this dress to the needle and thread one. It is so elegant, and I know it shouldn’t be all about showing off your figure, but your figure looks fabulous.

diddl · 08/02/2024 19:33

Ooh!

To me that knocks spots off the Needle & Thread one!

Schoolrunmumbun · 08/02/2024 19:38

Do you see what I mean about the needle and thread one not being on my actual waist?

I still think that the N&T one looks lovely & would have been a good option.

This one looks smarter, more sophisticated(?) & better fitted imo.

Seconded! You look gorgeous, OP. The Needle and Thread dress is pretty, but this one looks like it was made for you and is so classic and elegant.

diddl · 08/02/2024 20:29

classic and elegant.

Those are the words I was trying to find!

MamaBearsss · 08/02/2024 20:33

The ghost is stunning

MamaBearsss · 08/02/2024 20:34

The needle and thread one looks nice from the back but the high front is a bit frumpy in my opinion. The ghost one is way more flattering and really shows off your amazing figure.

Lucilledeville · 08/02/2024 20:49

Ghost dress is absolutely beautiful

Schoolrunmumbun · 08/02/2024 21:12

Thanks everyone!

I have a few days off work now so I'll iron the ghost one and try it on with a better bra and some Spanx. I'll try to get better pictures and share.

I'll also price up alternations on the monsoon one.

The Ghost dress is very elegant and much more flattering. You have a great figure! The Needle & Thread one is very pretty but makes you look about two sizes bigger than you are from the front.

BIossomtoes · 08/02/2024 21:19

The Ghost dress is gorgeous. That’s the one! With the fur jacket.

rong · 08/02/2024 21:21

I wore a short dress in for my winter wedding with bare legs and a coat with fake fur collar, I was fine

rong · 08/02/2024 21:27

Ah should have read the whole thread. Love the needle and thread one

puddypud · 08/02/2024 21:30

Oh yes. The Ghost Dress is beautiful. I do love the N&T one but think the Ghost is much more suitable for your day. Very elegant.

puddypud · 08/02/2024 21:31

But not with trainers!

FacingTheWall · 08/02/2024 21:32

The Ghost one is perfect, looks so much better on you than the other one, it’s gorgeous.

Illpickthatup · 08/02/2024 21:37

I wore a backless dress for my New Year's Eve wedding. It was freezing outside but I loved the dress so I didn't care. Why not just get a little fur wrap for your shoulders?

AreolaGrande · 08/02/2024 21:40

The Ghost dress is stunning on you OP. You must wear it.

But if you pair it with a denim jacket and trainers I will hunt you down myself and tear them off you 🤣

Zebracat · 08/02/2024 21:41

I loved the N&T but I think borrowing a dress can be stressful. It would be awful if you spent the whole day worrying that you might rip it. The Ghost dress is glorious and with your pink jacket will have Stevie Nicks / boho kind of think. I think I’d get some white chunky hiker boots to go with it, or suede knee highs. Also your intended will probably cry when they see you in that dress! You will look a proper bride.wherever you save money, or dress down, please please have real spring flowers.
